“ – You’re being a ing prick, all right, Minho –”

Taemin could have screamed in anger. All he sees is red, from the heat building up within him; from the tips of flames at his heart, his head, and his conscience.

“Go yourself, okay?! You’ve just ruined everything I’ve worked for, all like that!” he hollers at the top of his voice, exasperated and seething beyond his control –“and I don’t need you, for god’s sake!”

Somehow it all began with a crash – a broken TV, a messed-up room – and everything erupted into a furious altercation. Minho had done something careless, as he always did, but now Taemin’s rage is blinding him to the extent that he cannot make out what is true and what his muddled head is roaring out.

Before any of them knew it, their debate had escalated into an acrimonious quarrel, in which Minho’s profuse apologies go unheeded and Taemin’s accusations block out everything else.

“Look, I’m sorry,” Minho tries again, for the hundredth time, his voice slurred. “I was drunk – completely ing wasted last night, and you know what that’s like, I didn’t think about anything – and the stuff, they can be fixed – you know I didn’t mean to –”

“Didn’t mean to what? Don’t tell me you didn’t mean to leave your husband out waiting till three-ing-a.m., worried sick, and you didn’t mean to wake him up to you having completely trashed the living room?! This has been going on far too long –”

“Look, Taemin, stop being so unreasonable –”

“Me? Unreasonable?”

– and he’s marching unceremoniously out of the room, his face blackened like a storm. Alarmed, Minho reaches out; “Taemin I told you I’m sorry – I won’t do it again,” and he’s shouting, too, absolutely frustrated.

Taemin storms onto the road, needing to distance himself from Minho, to clear his head. Minho tromps along almost unwillingly in a heavy sort of jog. Taemin is a dear at times, but he’s not the one with the pounding head – and he’s so silly, really, all he needs is a bit of talk to calm him down – although –

“Taemin! –”

And then Taemin hears something zooming noisily. He glimpses, just barely, the glare of headlights; he hears an engine tearing ferociously down the road. His pupils dilate; he’s rigid, torn between anger and shock –

He feels a push, harsh upon contact; he’s flung to the pavement –

Crash! –

– and something new altogether begins with a crash, the screeching of tires, and a much deeper red than before.
