hyoyeon&jongdae; running into your heart

Paper Moon

                                         running into your heart

If someone told Hyoyeon earlier that week that the hot shot singer from Professor Kyuhyun's vocal
class were going to ask her out on a date she would have laughed and brushed the person off.
First of all, she's pretty sure that Kim Jongdae had never interacted with her much less passed
her by in a crowded hallway - which is pretty sad now that she thinks about it. Secondly, she sees
girls flocking the poor boy as if he were the last piece of meat at Sooyoung's house parties, which
is pretty damn terrifying because Sooyoung is a girl who loves food and doesn't share it very often.
One of those many rabid fangirls - really, with the amount of girls trailing after him one would think
he were some sort of celebrity being forced to attend university - could've been his girlfriend that
she just didn't know about but would probably hear about in conversation with her social butterfly
of an acquaintance, Tiffany. Basically, she wasn't at all prepared for being asked out by one of the
most attractive and popular male specimen at Seoul University.

Little comments aside, Kim Jongdae had asked her out and she remembers it happening right
as she was leaving the dance studio. Ideally, it wasn't how she wanted to be asked out - she was
sweating for god's sake and her skin was flushed an unattractive shade of pink from dancing so
vigorously. Usually it didn't matter to her that she were dressed down, only sweats and a tank top,
but she wished she was wearing something more visually appealing like a skirt or jeans when
Jongdae stood next to her dressed like he was ready to step into a club after lectures.

She remembers being awkward and very skittish when Jongdae had asked her out, brown eyes
widened impossibly and darting around.

"Hyoyeon? Can I talk to you?" Jongdae questioned after having approached Hyoyeon, blocking the
doorway with his body so she couldn't suddenly run off. He didn't even know if she would run off
but he was taking precautionary measures. That and if she rejected him he would become
persistent, not exactly forcing her but becoming persistent in hopes that he'll tire her out and she'd
give in because Jongdae really wants this date.

"Sure, what's on your mind?" Hyoyeon replied, a small smile on her lips. Jongdae thought she
looked beautiful when she smiled, light from the studio windows providing a soft glow behind the
girl, as if she didn't look angelic enough. And the light made it easier to see her features, the light
sheen of sweat over her pale smooth skin and the soft pink painting in her cheeks from practice.
He felt his throat starting to constrict and if he didn't start talking now then he wouldn't be able to
get a word out later. But it was so hard when she looked up at him with those pretty brown eyes
and that bright smile. He might just start sputtering nonsense at her.

"Will you go on a date with me this Friday? Dinner and a movie at seven pm?" Jongdae
managed to ask without saying something stupid along the lines of
hey, your tank top looks really
nice. I like the way it clings to your s.
Because that would definitely earn him a 'yes' to his
offer.

Hyoyeon stared at Jongdae with wide brown eyes, using all her willpower to keep her jaw where
it was because she doesn't think the boy would keep the offer open if she just stared at him like
some sort of gaping fish. That would be very attractive, way to get those boys flocking to her. She
tried her best to ease her surprised features into a more calm expression but she was suddenly
very nervous, the laid-back exterior she had before melting away into a skittish one. Her eyes
darted around, looking anywhere but at Jongdae as she tried to gather enough courage to tell him
that
hell yes she wanted to go on that date.

Except that , she was taking too long to reply. Jongdae's going to walk away soon and she's
going to drown in regret and self-loathing for the rest of her life and-

"Hyoyeon?" Jongdae's a bit worried that she'll say no because she won't even meet his eyes and
why isn't she answering? Does she not like him? Is she already dating someone? He'd be
damned if she was.

"Huh? Oh, yeah! I will go on a date with you!"  Hyoyeon answers before Jongdae decides to walk
away. If her words weren't clear enough, she nodded her head, shoulder-length brunette locks
whipping forward. She hadn't meant to hit the boy in the face with her hair. She smiled
apologetically to which Jongdae just chuckled and waved it off, smiling brightly because
holy
Kim Hyoyeon just agreed to go on a date with him.

The two anxious teen’s part ways with rushed and nervous goodbyes, almost knocking heads
when they both bowed at the same time. They both walk in the wrong direction before laughing
shyly when they pass each other on their ways in the right directions this time.

Hyoyeon is so anxious and nervous that she doesn't know what to do with herself. It's Friday
night, clock reading six pm exactly. Usually the girls dorms were relatively quiet on those days,
students piling in from classes and opting for naps and quiet activities.

A loud exasperated groan escaped the lips of Kim Hyoyeon as she pawed through her entire
wardrobe. Her roommate Taeyeon was sat on the bed opposite of Hyoyeon's, watching the
younger girl in amusement because wow, she'd never seen the other so frustrated. She was just
staring at her clothes, Taeyeon doesn't know how frustrated someone could find clothes but she
wasn't going to let Hyoyeon continue on tossing her clothes around the entire room.

"Hey, what are you doing?" Taeyeon questioned as she sidled up to Hyoyeon, resting her chin on
the slightly taller girl's shoulder and quickly ducked as a studded shirt was flung over the same
shoulder the older girl had found purchase on. She didn't know if that was intentional, but she
wasn't going to take that as a sign that the younger wanted her to go away.

"Looking for something to wear." Hyoyeon replied in a rushed tone, looking over a green tight-fitting
v-neck shirt and deciding that no, she shouldn't wear that on a first date ever - too much cleavage,
except not really.
She's just being extra careful with her clothing choices.

She picked up a green plaid shirt and decided on that, slipping it on over her black tank top and
rolling the sleeves up to her elbows. Now came a crucial decision, ed or buttoned? She
was starting to panic but before she could even worry about whether or not she wanted her shirt to
cling to her or flap by her sides, she needed to choose out some pants. She returned to
rummaging through her closet, picking up some green skinny jeans and chucking that over her
shoulder. This time, she succeeded in hitting Taeyeon in the face.

Taeyeon looked at the piece of cloth that had hit her in the face, a pair of green skinny jeans. She
stared in disbelief because
what the hell? How much green clothes could one person own? No
one wanted to look like a walking piece of broccoli.

"Hey. Hey! HEY!" Taeyeon yelled at Hyoyeon as more clothes flew in her direction. Her words were
accompanied by a firm slap to the back of the younger's head, effectively gaining her attention.

"I'm listening! I'm listening! Jeez, you slap like a man." Hyoyeon complained, rubbing the back of
her head tenderly. The older girl just rolled her eyes, used to the younger complaining about her
manly - those slaps weren't even anywhere near manly - hits.

"Move aside and let me help you choose something, you just start cleaning up this mess you
made otherwise those clothes go out the window." Taeyeon threatened lightly. Hyoyeon quickly
began to gather her clothes off the floor, folding them into neat piles and placing them on her bed
where she'd put them back into her closet later.

Taeyeon hummed softly as she rustled through the many clothes, picking up a pair of dark
washed skinny jeans that would go perfectly with the dark colours of Hyoyeon's tank and shirt. She
tossed that at the younger girl and bent down to look at the different pair of shoes that the dance
major owned, all of them being sneakers. She picked up her black high-top converse and gave
those to the girl too.

"Put those on while I put your clothes away." Taeyeon instructed Hyoyeon, the younger girl
following the command easily in her nervous state when she would usually reprimand the older
for talking to her like so in the form of a pinch to the arm. "What's got you so worked up anyway?
You never care about what you wear."

"I have a date..." Hyoyeon mumbled quietly. Taeyeon stared at the younger girl as she hung up a
loose black and white striped shirt, she did not hear a word she said with how quietly she was
speaking.

"Say that again."

"I have a date..." Hyoyeon said much louder this time, pink dusting her cheeks.

Taeyeon paused in her movements, a hanger in one hand and a shirt in the other. Both items fell
to the floor and in a moment the older girl was squealing happily and throwing herself at the
younger. She didn't think that she'd ever see the girl go on a date because Hyoyeon didn't ask
people out and guys who were interested were too intimidated by her. "Oh my god! Who asked you
out?! I bet it was the tall handsome basketball captain Wu Yifan! Or maybe it was that photography
student Xi Luhan! Who is taking my cute Hyoyeonnie out?!"

"Dear lord, you're squishing me and I can't breathe." Hyoyeon squeaked out, pushing at Taeyeon's
shoulder in an attempt to push her away. "Kim Jongdae asked me out."

"OH MY GOD! YOU GUYS WOULD HAVE SUCH TALENTED BABIES! AND-"

"Who said anything about babies?!"

"Why aren't you wearing a dress to visually stimulate the poor guy?"

"What? I don't own dresses!"

"Here, I have one you could borrow!"

Hyoyeon's never bolted from her room so fast in her life. She slipped on her shoes quickly and
grabbed her small purse that held her phone and wallet, quickly running down the hall and
slipping into a closing elevator and just narrowly avoiding running into the other body in the small
space.

Jongdae had rushed back from his late afternoon classes to get ready for his date with the most
beautiful girl on campus. He had about half an hour before he had to leave to meet up with her in
front of the campus.

Minseok who had been reading a book on his bed was disturbed when his roommate had
suddenly burst into the room, flinging the closet door open and promptly stripped out of his clothes
in favour of picking out a new outfit - thank god the boxers had stayed on though. To say he was
disturbed was an understatement.

"At least close the door before you start taking your clothes off." Minseok said, walking over towards
the gaping door and shut it. He returned to his spot on the bed, picking up his book but watched in
amusement as Jongdae threw on a red plaid shirt - getting his head stuck in one of the armholes
and flailing the older boy over for help - and some black jeans - getting his hand stuck in one of the
pant legs as he tried to adjust his boxers so they didn't scrunch and create weird creases through
his jeans. He had called for Minseok's assistance once more.

Before Minseok could even begin to question what the Jongdae was doing, the boy was
hobbling out the door trying to get his shoes on before breaking into a sprint to get to the elevator.

"What the hell...?"

Hyoyeon and Jongdae had arrived at the entrance of the campus around the same time, both tired
with a few strands of hair in disarray from their run. They had just laughed and with shy smiles,
tucked those flyaways down. They walked closely together as Jongdae led Hyoyeon off campus
and towards the city, walking closely beside each other to share some warmth. It was summer and
hot enough that they didn't have to share any type of heat whatsoever but it was nice being so close
to each other. None of them had the courage to be the first to grab the other's hand though so they
just let their hands brush, fingers twitching longingly.

Dinner wasn't anything special. When Jongdae had pulled out a chair for Hyoyeon, he had actually
sat down on it and literally facepalmed himself in front of her because , he was an idiot. Hyoyeon
had just smiled at him and patted his arm, telling him it was fine because she was nervous too,
referring to when she had tripped on air when they had first entered the restaurant. It was a good
thing Jongdae had caught her. If he hadn't caught her and she did manage to fall, then he would join
her on the floor by also tripping.

The rest of dinner went along nicely, the two making small chatter - not really, they were so loud that
they were eventually chased out of the restaurant. It didn't bother them much because they hadn't
even made them pay before ushering the two laughing people out the door.

The movie they went to see was a romantic comedy, perfect for the both of them. Everything was
going along smoothly, the two laughed along with the movie, hands meeting in the large tub of
popcorn on Hyoyeon's lap. They both blushed but instead of pulling their hands away, their fingers
met in a buttery mess, intertwining as small happy smiles spread across their faces. The popcorn
lay forgotten on Hyoyeon's lap but their hands remained intertwined for the rest of the film. They
weren't even paying attention to the storyline anymore, focusing more on the way they hands fit so
well together.

At the end of their date, Jongdae had walked Hyoyeon to the entrance of the girls dorm. He meant
to just hug the girl goodnight but he was surprised when he felt a soft warm pressure on his
cheek. He would have thought that he was dreaming because that was too good to be true but
Hyoyeon was staring up at him with a happy grin, lips pulled into a bright smile and eyes crinkled
into crescent moons. He chuckled and leaned down to press soft kisses to each of her cheeks,
leaving the girl blushing.

"If I asked you out for a second date would you say yes?"

"Depends."

"On?"

"Will you actually pull a chair out for me this time?"

Their eyes met and they both laughed.
