Special Chapter: The Call
Appa's DaughterThe idea of this chapter came from one of you guys. Thank you all for trying to help my blank mind lol. I truly appreciate it :)
*Italics are Jessica's thoughts.
It’s snowing heavily outside. I hope she drives carefully. By the way, what time is it? I glanced at the clock. It says 6:35 pm. Odd… She’d normally
be home at around 6:10. Oh well, something must have happened at the office. I continued preparing the dinner for tonight. I was planning to make
Kwon Seobang’s favourite dish, vegetable salad; and Yoona’s favourite, Korean beef stew. Well, my cooking might not be as good as Yuri’s, but
I’m sure they’ll love dinner tonight – especially Yoona, keke~ That daughter of mine never eats vegetables, but is totally in love with any food that
has meat in it.
I heard the phone ringing as I was about to cook Yoona’s beef stew. It must be Yuri. I hurriedly picked up the phone.
“Hello?” I said. The other line remained silent. “Hellooooo?” I repeated, but the other line still remained silent.
I was about to end the call when the other line finally spoke up. “Jessica, it’s Taeyeon.” There’s something different in her voice. Her voice never
sounded this weak and hoarse.
“Taeyeon, what’s wrong? Is everything okay?” I voiced out my concern for her. Something was definitely up.
“I… I don’t know how to say it. Jessica, I…”
“Come on, Taeng. What is it?” I’m growing agitated. I felt a strange gnawing feeling at my chest.
“Sica, I… I’ve got a call from St. John’s hospital, and they… they said Yuri’s car crashed,” Taeyeon choked up as I felt my heart dropped. I’m not
expecting this at all. No, this might just be a prank!
“Jessica… Oh, God! I couldn’t say it!” I heard her sobbed on the other line, and I knew that the next thing I'd hear... would be much worst.
“Taeng, please tell me what happened to Yuri,” I pleaded desperately with my voice shaking. At least tell me she’s alive.
“They… They said she was badly hurt, but Yuri, she… she did not make it.” I dropped the phone from my hand. I felt the world around me stopped
moving. I gripped the table in front of me as my knees wobbled. Yuri… you were supposed to come home. My heart was shattered – torn into
pieces by the slavering monster of sorrow and unbearable pain. Tears ran down my cheeks; my soul and my heart... both were crying.
“Umma, are you alright?” I heard a concerned voice on my left. No, sweetie. Umma’s not alright. But my young daughter… she can’t see me like this.
Who would stand up for her now that her Appa’s gone? I quickly wiped my tears away and forced out a weak smile.
“Ye-yes, Yoona. Umma’s alright.” I tried to contain the sobs threatening to come out of my mouth. I have to be strong for Yoona.
“Umma, why is Appa not hom
