I still remember the distant smell of fresh spring grass, the green pigments always staining my shoes, and the moist dirt that tinted my clothes every time after running in the warm air during soccer practice.
“We used to play soccer all the time in ninth grade,” I remarked to Doojoon, turning to face him as he oddly stared at me and looked back at the open field before us.
“Yeah. I remember.”
But he doesn’t. I know that.
It was just last year when he suffered through Amnesia because of a car accident, the moment where I lost him forever, the time where he could no longer be the man whom I knew, the man whom I fell so heavily in love with, always trapped in his golden aura of yellow dandelions and spring grass wind.
He knew that I cried for him, especially whenever the current him couldn’t remember our deep memories we spent so much with each other. He may be my childhood friend, but he was also my lover, a place where many memories came to play and developed from those innocent, young days.
We were engaged just two months before the accident; we were planning on a future together, planning on a new house and kids, and maybe even a pet dog. But everything drastically changed within the year. I couldn’t acquire that dream anymore, realizing that when he woke up in the white, tense hospital room, he had forgotten everything.
