Chapter 1
EmptyIt was snowing that day. Snow so cold it numbed the toes of feet, wind that bit at people’s cheeks and threw their hair into frenzies. With arms folded to her chest, she pushed past the crowds and into the train, heart beating steadily. She stared at those who passed her, their backs hunched and heads down. It was better that way anyway, so she wouldn't have to be reminded of those who she had left behind - faces that were imprinted in her memory, voices she could not stop hearing.
