The Tin Man and the Lion
Description
"I don't care." That's what CSI agent Nam Woohyun says whenever his partner, Kim Sunggyu, scolds him for his reckless behaviour. You're too brash, too intrepid, and too damn careless for your own good. Listen to me, Woohyun! Don't you ever worry about yourself? Are you that fearless about dying?
Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. But whatever the case, Woohyun never listens to his partner's rebukes. Instead, he's ghosting through life without a care, not really worrying about the shadow of death constantly hanging over him.
"I'm human. I breathe, I eat, I sleep; I can do everything that you do. But does that mean that I'm living? That I've fully accepted life's values? No. That just means I haven't died yet."
His way of living bothers Sunggyu, he knows it does. Woohyun can see it in his eyes every time he chases after a criminal, or comes to work with a nasty bruise on his face. But with a new murder case to investigate and a strange man named Luhan to deal with, Woohyun doesn't have time to feel sorry for Sunggyu.
Besides, it's not like Woohyun can help it. He just doesn't know how to live.
Foreword
"I wish you would stop doing that."
"Doing what?" Woohyun asked, humourless smile still in place.
"That. Acting like everything in life is a joke."
The dark-haired man was silent. When it was clear that he would give no response, Sunggyu heaved a sigh. "Why? Why do you keep acting like this? Every single day, I feel like you insist on hurting yourself in some way. You never care about injuries, you never take account of possible threats, and you're always running head-first into danger. Like today. Did you even think about how dangerous and completely stupid it was to tackle Luhan like that? Or what about the fact that he had a freakin' gun in his hands?" With every word, Sunggyu's voice increased in volume.
"He had a gun, Woohyun. He was ready to shoot and everything. You... You could have died today."
Still, Woohyun said nothing.
A minute passed. After staring at his partner with an upset expression, Sunggyu released another heavy breath. "Of course. You're not even listening to what I'm saying. I should have learned by now that talking to you is just a waste of breath."
Rising from his seat, the brunet began making his way towards the door. When he reached the doorway, however, he paused and looked over his shoulder.
"You're just like the Tin Man, you know. Exactly like the Tin Man. Both of you are empty shells, missing the one thing that makes you fully human. Only you're not incapable of loving. You're just incapable of living."
[A/N] So here's the Woogyu spinoff I was talking about! For those of you who don't know, this story is a loosely-connected prequel to When the Mockingbird Strikes. I'm not planning on making this fic very long. At the most, it'll be around 10 or 15 chapters.
Also, in case you didn't catch it, the title of this story is referring to characters from the Wizard of Oz. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend that you do. Classics are always a great read.
Happy reading!
This story is a fanfic that I created completely on my own. I do not own kpop groups, their members, or anything other than this story. Any similarities between this and another story are pure coincidences.
