I don't need your friendship...

Deja Vu on a Rainy Day [One Shot] SungJong

I watched all the girls swarm around him. He was pretty popular around school. Who is this guy you ask? It was none other than infinite’s Sungjong. I shrugged and looked away. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the guy, but I just didn’t see what was so great about him. In my eyes Sungjong was just like any other guy… nothing more nothing less.

“Yo Mika… let’s go!” Hoya called from the other end of the hall. Hoya was my friend along with being a member of infinite. No one really minded my befriending Hoya I was technically hired as his tutor. As time went on, Hoya did better in school and didn’t need me anymore. However no one knows im not his tutor anymore so we just keep it on the down low. We became friends somewhere along the way and since most people still think I’m his tutor no one really bothered me about being around him so much.

“Coming!,” I answered, following after Hoya. For a second I thought I saw Sungjong look over in my direction, but I could be mistaken. I took my seat at my desk, Hoya sat down next to me.

“So why do you seem so spaced out? Has the weather gotten to you?” Hoya asked, a little suspicious as to my behavior. The weather was dark and wet. The rain seemed to fall down endlessly. I loved the rain so I guess it stuck Hoya as odd that I wasn’t abnormally energetic.

“It’s not the weather… I guess I’m just tired,” I told him. Hoya looked at me suspiciously.

“Are you sure?” he pressed on. I nodded. The truth was that I stayed up late writing out an essay that I completely forgot about, and then I had to help my younger brother learn his times tables and well as time went on… I only got about 3 hours of sleep. I wouldn’t tell Hoya that though. He would just lecture me about time management and getting my priorities straight and not overworking myself.

Our class lecture seemed like a lullaby to me today. It seemed like it was slowly lulling me to sleep.

“Pst…. Wake up,” Hoya whispered to me. I would immediately flutter my eyes open only to be welcomed by the same dull lecture.

Ugh today is not the day for me to deal with this….

When school was over it was still raining and I had to walk home.

“I would walk you home, but I have a session at the recording studio that I have to get to,” Hoya told me. I nodded understanding his schedule.

“It’s okay just let me know if you need any help on your homework,” I told him. He nodded, waved, and then went on his merry way. I pulled out my umbrella and walked over to my bus stop. I sat on the bench and let my umbrella cover me from the rain. I dozed off and suddenly Sungjong appeared right in front of me.

“You’re Lee Mika right?” He asked. I nodded.

“Mind if I take a seat?” He questioned, pointing at the seat next to me.

“Go for it,” I answered, shortly. I didn’t feel it was necessary for him to engage me in conversation just to take a seat on the bench I was on.

“So you’re friends with Hoya hyung huh?” He stated out loud. I nodded once again.

“Yeah I was his tutor some time ago, but now I’m just his friend,” I told him. I still couldn’t understand the eagerness he had to talk to me. Again… he had no real reason to engage me in conversation.

“Oh silly me… I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Sungjong,” He said sticking out his hand for me to shake it. I forced a smile and pushed his hand away.

“I know who you are… and it’s clear you know who I am,” I answered, a little more coldly than what I wanted it to sound.

“You know who I am? Wow that is surprising!” He retorted, as cheerful as he was before, my comment from before not fazing him at all.

“Why is that so surprising? Hoya would eventually talk about you. The girls at school won’t shut up about you,” I commented.

“Well… I noticed that you’re probably the only girl that doesn’t pay attention to me. I just figured you had no idea who I was,” He explained. I shook my head and yawned.

“Not at all… but in my eyes you’re just a normal guy there’s no need to get all fussy around you,” I said. Oddly enough my statement earned a smile from him.

“I wish everyone thought that. I’d be able to live a little easier,” He commented. I shrugged. I really couldn’t sympathize with him considering that I know nothing about being a celebrity so I really don’t understand what he is going through.

“I guess I can see why Hoya wants to keep you as a friend,” Sungjong commented. I really didn’t know how to respond. “I would love the opportunity to get to know you…” He told me. I won’t lie. I was a little taken back.

“Uh sure…” I responded. A huge smile appeared on his face.

“Awesome! How about I walk you home or something?” He suggested. I couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction.

“If I didn’t know any better I’d say you just won the lottery or something,” I joked, still laughing. He scratched his neck, slightly embarrassed.

“Well I guess I’m just excited about having a new friend,” He said, offering his hand to me again. What the heck… why not? I mean what would it hurt to be friends with Sungjong? I shook his hand and smiled. A genuine smile this time.

5 months elapsed and my friendship with Sungjong actually did expand. Our friendship actually got so great that Hoya kept telling Sungjong he saw me first. At first I wasn’t at all impressed by Sungjong. However as time went by I slowly became attracted to him. I began to see what his fans saw in him. Sungjong was kind and reliable. Sungjong was also very spunky and full of life. I soon began to view him in a light much different than what a friend should be seen in.

Ironically enough today was another rainy day. Lately, Sungjong has been acting kind of strange around me. I’ll admit it was bothering me, but I figured he would eventually tell me what is wrong. I spent the whole day waiting for him to tell me what was wrong and unfortunately all I got was nothing but him ignoring me.

“You alright there?” Hoya asked as we packed to leave. I shook my head.

“It’s just… Sungjong has been acting strange. Did I do something wrong?” I wondered out loud. Hoya laughed at me, patting my head.

“Don’t think about it too much… trust me.. “Hoya told me. I looked at him suspiciously.

“Is there something that you know that I don’t?” I asked him. He looked at me and placed his fingers on his lips.

“It’s a secret…” He told me, chuckling. I glared at him.

“You’re not going to tell me?” I asked again. He shook his head.

“I wouldn’t be a good friend to Sungjong if I told you,” He answered me. I couldn’t help but pout.

“You ,” I stated. He merely laughed at me. We walked outside together and then Hoya and I went our separate ways. Hoya had practice so he wasn’t going to take me home today. Normally both Hoya and Sungjong would walk me home but I guess today I was riding solo. I sat at the bus stop, placing the umbrella over my head to protect me from the water.

Why does this feel like déjà vu?

Then I felt a tap on my shoulder and I looked up to see Sungjong.

“Mind if I sit?” He asked. I smiled and patted the bench beside me.

“Go for it,” I answered him. It was oddly silent between the two of us. Even when I first met Sungjong he had some kind of topic of conversation, but for some reason today he had nothing to say. “Umm… so I haven’t seen you much lately… mind filling me in?” I asked. He looked at me and then looked away towards the street.

“I’ve had something on my mind that I have been trying to clear up,” He told me, seriously. I was surprised at the deep look of concentration that was present on his face.

“Well what’s wrong?” I wondered.

“Well… remember when I told you we should try being friends?” He asked me, still facing the street.

“Yeah,” I answered.

“Well back then… I really wanted your friendship. I was jealous of what Hoya had. I wanted to have a true friend not a fan. I saw you hanging around Hoya and the way you acted and I wondered for the longest time how I would ever get you to talk to me. I was so happy that you agreed to let me get to know you. You’re an awesome person and a great friend,” He elaborated. He took a pause and I gave no question because I knew he was going to keep going. “But now I don’t want your friendship.” He told me. I was a little taken back by what he said.

“Um… okay,” I said, feeling hurt by his words. “Did I do something wrong?” I asked, immediately.

“Wait, let me finish,” He commanded. I nodded and swallowed the knot in my throat that threatened to make tears fall.

“I don’t want your friendship anymore because now I want something else. I want your love,” He told me, now facing me fully. His eyes were boring in to mine. “I want to ask you to be my girlfriend,” He confessed. All of the sudden my emotions took a 360 degree turn. I went from crushed to soaring above the clouds.

“I um… well yeah sure on one condition,” I answered. He looked at me curiously, eager for my answer.

“Sure,” He said. I smiled

“If I’m your girlfriend you have to be my boyfriend,” I said, cheekily. He immediately grinned and kissed my cheek.

“You got it,” He answered me, wrapping his arm around me. Then right at that moment, the rain stopped.
