.author's note

This story was inspired by the events of the Holocaust, a mid-twentieth century genocide that was responsible for the deaths of millions of Jews, homouals, and other humans deemed beneath the "superior" Aryan race. At the beginning, Jews were forced to wear yellow Stars of David as indication of their inferior status. Eventually, they were forced from their homes by Nazi soldiers and sent to concentration camps as labourers. Those who could not work were transferred to death camps, where they were gassed to death en masse in isolated chambers. The fortunate few that were not rounded up by soldiers went on the run and lived in constant fear of capture. In addition to mass murder, there were also cases of medical torture where prisoners were used in hazardous experiments that resulted in disability, disfigurement or death. 

Although this story is fictitious, the persecution that exists in our world is very real. Our species has the capacity to commit unspeakable atrocities when driven by hate and it's a fact that we often forget.
