Prologue - The Sea, Nothing
A Life's Ocean
The waves crushed repeatedly on the rough, bone-white rocks. Countless drops shot to the sky, birds attempting to fly free only to fall again, forever gone, dried up and forgotten.
You could smell it on the air, feel it on your skin, flesh shuddering like the water, the approaching storm making its way towards the shore, having already conquered the vast openness of the ocean.
People were running around in the village, their voices urgent and yelling orders, their limbs frenzied, moving to protect, keep everyone safe.
And him?
Numb. He couldn't move. He wouldn't. Were the villagers calling him? He wasn't sure... Or maybe it was the sea... offering to cloak him protectively.
Come to me. There's peace here. No one can ever hurt you again...
It was alluring. He felt himself taking a step forward. Or perhaps he didn't, he couldn't really tell.
