Flashback of a feeling

Beautiful Hello

He stands there next to his favorite café shop on the secluded streets of Seoul; he lets out a heavy breath into the cold winter air, he then sips on his steaming latte as he watches his breath slowly dissolve into the air. His eyes land on a girl entering the café then turns back seeing it’s another regular there to get coffee, but flicker back when the girl’s face looks awfully familiar. His eyes stay glued on her as he watches her take her order, taping her chin thoughtfully before pointing to the board, ordering a peppermint hot chocolate, the boy smiles to his self and chuckles, the type of drink would look like it would suit her personality, warm and sweet.

He continues to look at her as she waits for her drink, puffing her cheeks out as she naturally checks her phone constantly. A goofy grin soon forms on his face, somewhere in his mind he knows he’s seen the girl somewhere, but can’t quite put a finger around it. He looks down at his once hot latte only to find it cold, he tilts his head, wondering how long he was exactly staring at her. He looks back up from his drink to see the girl taking a seat as she simultaneously let out a sigh, a lock of her hair falls down in a rather charming way as she takes a small sip from her drink while looking up, but then later puts in down in an instant and fans .

His eyes soon curl up as he laughs at her clumsiness, his vision didn’t go anywhere else but her, he sure wanted to look away but he couldn’t. He stands for a while before deciding, he wants to go meet her, maybe a simple hello? The grip on his cup becomes firm as he walks into the café; his body instantly relaxes as hot air hits him. His footsteps are a bit hesitant as he stops in front of the square wooden table; she looks up at him and smiles politely.

“May I sit here?” His voice is shy as he slowly puts his head down in embarrassment, he absolutely hated social situations. This time the girl gives out a more natural smile as she guides her hand to the seat across her.

“Yeah, not a problem.” Her voice was as sweet as honey, he suddenly had a fluttering feeling at the pit of his stomach, and the boy couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous at her voice and everything about her in general.

He gave out a polite smile as he pulled out the wooden chair letting out a small squeak. The boy sat down, fiddling awkwardly with the cup’s sleeve.

“Hi, my name’s Dongguen.” His tone is soft and careful.

She giggles, catching him a bit off guard. “My name’s Ara, and there’s no need to be so nervous.” His eyes meet hers as he suddenly preferred to look down at the table now, he wanted to kill himself for being so shy and flustered just at the sight of her. Dongguen slowly lifts his head up to see her taping away on her phone; he couldn’t help but furrow his eyebrows, why did she look so familiar? His eyes become round as he lets everything about her sink in, Ara?

Dongguen crooks his head in closer as he lets the words escape his mouth mindlessly, “Ara?, Yoo Ara?” She looks up from her phone as she slowly nods in confusion, why was he suddenly saying her name like he had just saw a ghost? “You don’t remember me, Shin Dongguen?”

Ara shakes her head, confused with his sudden question, “Shin Donggeun? I’m sorry but, I don’t think we’ve ever met before.” She had absolutely no idea why he had asked her such a peculiar question.

His expression turns gloom at her answer, “My name ringing any bells in there?,” The girl shakes her head once more with an eyebrow raised. His hands tap the table, “Nothing?”

Ara gets up from the table and bows in an awkward manner, “I’m sorry Dongguen, but I have to go now, it was nice meeting you.” He opens his mouth as he raises his hand up to say something, but she passes him. Dongguen watches disappointedly as she steps out of the café and slowly disappears from his sight and walks down the cement sidewalk, he sinks down in his chair.

“She really doesn’t remember me…”

-

Dongguen wakes up, stretching tiredly from his bed as he looks out of the window of his apartment, his eyes stop on a girl walking out of her door and down the stairs.

“Ara?”
