Kris took a deep breath, when he spoke again he sounded almost shy. “I wish I could tell you how this works, but the truth is I don’t know myself. It’s something that I grew up with and never questioned, and even when I watched my kin pair up with beings who weren’t our kind, I was never told how it happened because…well it really wasn’t any of my business.” He glanced up at Zitao as if to gauge his reaction. When he said nothing, Kris continued. “I know this must be very strange for you but it’s also strange for me, so maybe…we can work it out together?”

[It's kind of a 'cross' between "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho" and "Kimi wa Petto". Note that I haven't actually seen My GF and I only saw like 5 episodes of KWP, so it's more like loosely inspired.
