Chapter 11

"There's something for you"

"What is it?"

"You'll know when you see it"

Ji Eun carefully opened the envelope which her mother handed to her and emptied
its contents. In it was a key and a note with an address scribbled on it, and she 
knew instantly where it would lead to.

Her mother shook her head and sighed as she saw her make her way out of the house 
for the first time in two weeks, not long after she handed the envelope over to her. 

It was something Young Saeng had entrusted it to her before the operation, 
something he wanted Ji Eun to have after she found out the truth.

Ji Eun finally found the apartment and swung the door open after unlocking it, 
the other place she had gotten familiar with - his home.

"Why did you want me to come?"

She muttered to herself as she walked through the house.

Stopping in front of the first door on the right, she hesitated for a moment before 
finally turning the doorknob to open the door to his room.

Ji Eun's hands trembled as she reached out for the very first thing she spotted by 
his bedside - a photo frame which held a photograph of him, and her. 

Young Saeng had his arms around her, and she was resting her head on him...

A lone tear slid down her face as she gazed at the photograph and recalled 
the day when he had to coax her into taking it.

An elderly lady let herself into the apartment and smiled as she saw a young lady 
fast asleep on the couch, with an album held tightly in her hands. 

She proceeded to clean the place up as she would do so weekly, with extra care 
so as to avoid waking the young lady up.

Ji Eun woke up to the sound of a fallen object and to her surprise found someone cooking in the kitchen.

"You're up. Sorry for the noise"

"Annyeonghasaeyo..."

"How long have you been here? I didn't see you around the last time..."

"About a week…"

For a week she had been cooping herself up at his place. The only contact she had 
with the outside world was the occasional phone call she'd make to her mum, to 
reassure her that she was doing fine.

"Eat up, this must be your first proper meal in days…"

The old lady said as she placed a bowl of porridge on the table. Ji Eun later found 
out that she was Young Saeng's caretaker since he was a little kid, and she had 
been dropping by regularly to keep the place clean as he'd like it to be. 
And for another reason she wasn't aware of.

"Ji Eun shi, will you be free to come with me to a place?"

"…"

Ji Eun looked at herself and hesitated before excusing herself to wash up and get 
changed into a fresh set of clothing which had been prepared for her. 

She soon found herself in a sprawling mansion and saw a couple whom she
recognized as Young Saeng's parents almost immediately from the identical 
features they shared.

His parents had been wanting to meet Ji Eun for the longest time, 
the girl that had made a difference to their son's life.

"Ji Eun ah, there's something Saeng and I would like you to have"

Young Saeng's mum said as Ji Eun was about to leave after spending a day with 
them, reminiscing about the boy they shared a love for. She returned with a box 
which she handed to Ji Eun, and hugged her tightly before she left.

Ji Eun returned to the apartment which his parents said was her home until the 
day she decides to move out and emptied the contents of the box. 

In it was several albums, an envelope, and a disc.

Flipping through the albums, she smiled as she saw the pictures of little Young 
Saeng growing up. Those chubby cheeks and cute dimples, they still pretty much 
remained the same as he grew.

A part of her wanted to put the disc and envelope away, yet another part of her 
was longing to view the contents.

She opened the envelope and found a letter together with a ring, which she 
examined and slipped onto her finger almost immediately.


To Ji Eun, my love

Words can never describe how thankful I am to have had you in my life.
There's nothing else I could ask for than to have you by my side.

I'm sorry for never saying goodbye. I couldn't bear to do so.

Whenever you feel alone, close your eyes and listen to your heart. 
For that's where a part of me will always be with you.

The times we've spent together would be something for us to remember.
Now it's time to set your heart free.

Remember I'll always be watching over you from above.
Till the day we meet again, promise me you'd live well.

Alhough weary from crying over his last words to her, Ji Eun proceeded to play 
the disc and hugged the pillow tight as an image of Young Saeng appeared. She 
recognized the place as his room in the mansion she had just visited, which was 
converted into a private ward.

"Pabo…"

She mumbled as he saw him flash a wide smile and wave after positioning himself 
in front of the camera. He had a beanie over his head, those chubby cheeks he was 
known to have was gone, but the smile he had on his face was still as bright.


"Ji Eun ah, you should have known everything by now. 
Mianhae, I couldn't be the first person you saw.
You've to listen to what I've got to say, so don't you start crying now and give me a smile..."

She stifled the tears that were about to fall again and smiled just as he told her to.

"I haven't forgotten my promise to teach you photography. 
Now look carefully, this is how you change the lens of a camera…

Before you get bored, I've left a manual in my room. 
Promise me you'll never give up on life and continue seeing the world 
with what I've entrusted with you, and be happy always.

Kyu Jongie is a really good guy. I... can't think of anyone else better for you…
