Café Latte

Café Latte

In Luhan’s eyes Meixin’s name matches her perfectly, “Beautiful Heart”, her friendly nature drew Luhan in the moment he met her at Café Latte, a small little coffee house that Luhan went to every day after school. It was a Wednesday when Meixin first caught his eye. His usual waiter, Huafeng, wasn’t there to take his order. Instead, a beautiful girl with short brown hair and large hazel eyes stood in front of him, a beautiful smile was spread across her pale face.  Luhan felt his heart stop the moment he heard her voice.

“Welcome to Café Latte, my name is Meixin and I’ll be your waitress for the day. May I take your order?” He didn’t even realize that he was just sitting there and staring at her until she spoke again.

“Sir? Are you alright?”

“Ah, yes sorry. I’d like a regular white coffee and a slice of strawberry cheesecake please.” Luhan watched as she jotted his order down quickly.

“Alright! Your regular white coffee and strawberry cheesecake will be ready before you know it!” Luhan couldn’t help but smile as the girl in front of him turned around, her bright personality caught Luhan’s attention right away.

Luhan use to go to Café Latte cause of their fresh coffee’s and dessert but he soon found himself looking forward to seeing Meixin. He knew it was odd to be so interested in a person he barely knew but he couldn’t help himself. The way she smiled at all of her customers and the way she spoke to him as she took his order made Luhan’s heart skip a beat. Even without really knowing her, he knew she was kind. He remembered it being a Monday, it was raining outside and a couple came inside to get shelter from the rain. It is against the coffee shops rules to let people in if they aren't customers but Meixin let them stay anyways. She grabbed two coffee cups and filled it with hot water before leading them to the seats in the back.

“The steam should make it look like coffee if anybody else comes by. Feel free to say here until the rain stops, I’m sure my boss won’t be back for a while anyways.”

Luhan couldn’t help but become both intrigued and attracted by her. As he went to the coffee shop every day he also noticed Meixin’s clumsiness. Luhan had never used his powers in public before but he felt the need to help her out whenever she bumped into a cup or slipped on spilt coffee. Today was no different. Taking a sip of his coffee Luhan glanced at the falling cup in front of him, it goes back to its original spot right away and he smiles. She's always so clumsy. He looked over and laughed at Meixin’s reaction. Her hand was clutching her chest as she let out a sigh of relief.

“That was a close call; luck seems to be on my side these days.” Unknown to Meixin though, it was Luhan and not luck that had helped her.

Luhan continued to take small sips of his coffee, not reading a single line of the book in his hand while he watched Meixin run around the coffee house. The way she hopped down the steps from the back kitchen to the front of the shop was absolutely adorable. Luhan was still looking at her when he noticed Meixin glance his way; his eyes averted its attention to the book in front of him right away. Luhan peeked over his book slowly and noticed that she was still looking at him, her head cocked to the side and a curious expression was displayed on her face. Luhan felt his cheeks warm up as she continued to look straight at him, oh no! Did she notice? Luhan panicked and hid his face behind his book again. He heard footsteps approach him and felt a small tap on his shoulder. He looked up and was greeted by a smiling Meixin.

“Um… sir, your book is upside down.” A bright pink spread across Luhan’s face as he opened his mouth to answer Meixin.

“Oh... uh... haha, thanks. I must be out of my mind from all my school work lately.”

“Ah, yes it’s exam season! You must be working hard then, Jia You sir! I wish you lots of luck!” Meixin did a small fist pump in the air and patted Luhan’s back before going back to work. Luhan’s eyes widened at her friendly gesture that made his heart race. Luhan had no idea where his sudden courage came from but the next time Meixin walked passed his table he called out her name.

“Meixin!” Meixin’s signature smile was on her face as she pulled out her notebook and walked towards Luhan.

“Is there something you need sir?”

“I… uh… I’m Luhan actually; it feels awkward to have someone call me sir haha.”

“Oh! Sorry and to think that I’ve been calling you sir this entire time! Is there something else you need Luhan?”

“Um... Uh… can I get another cup of regular white coffee please?” Luhan cursed himself inside for being so nervous again.

“Alright, a regular white coffee coming up! Is there anything else you need?”

“Nope, that’s it.” Meixin turned around to walk away when Luhan suddenly decided to speak again.

“Um wait Meixin, actually, um… are you busy after work today?” Luhan could practically hear his own heart thumping as he waited for her answer. She turned around slowly and walked over to Luhan before replying.

“Mmm, nope I’m not doing anything after work today. Why?”

“Would you like to… uh… um….” Before Luhan could finish his question Meixin chuckled softly.

“I’d love to go to the park with you.” Meixin smiled shyly before scurrying off to help her other customers, leaving a stunned Luhan behind. It took him a good five minutes before he was able to grasp the situation. Meixin is interested in him as well. The park hey? Even her choice for a date was cute, just like her. Luhan couldn’t hide the excitement he felt as he thought about the things they could do at the park. Would he push her on the swings or should they sit side by side together? They sell kites in the park nearby as well; we could go fly a kite. Watching the sunset on the hill while we get to know each other would be nice too. When Meixin finally came back with his drink he noticed the blush that formed on her face, she was embarrassed by what she had done just now. What kind of a grown man would like to go to a park for a date? Well apparently this one does.

“Hey Meixin, the park sounds perfect to me.”
