"Look, whatever is going on between us, let's just stop it." Up until then, he never knew that words

Have the power to almost choke him. The moment she dropped those words, he felt like he was being slowly stabbed straight to the heart. Had it been someone else to utter that, it wouldn't have hurt this much. But coming from her, it meant everything more.

“But, you just can’t do this.” He pleaded, looking at her doe like, chocolate eyes. Eyes that have the power to draw him in, that has already drawn him in every time he looked at those.

She bit her lower lip and from his peripheral vision, he could see that her fingers were fiddling with the hem of her loose t-shirt. He knew that she does this when she’s nervous, just like he knew that if she starts making small circles with her index finger, she’s about to cry. The fact that he knew the meaning behind her little gestures made him happy yet sad at the same time.

“Give me a good reason why I can’t.” She said her voice rasp. Again, he could tell that she was fighting back the tears.

“Because we love each other.” He told her, hoping to God and to all he believed in that she would find this reason good and satisfying enough.

“That’s why we should end this. Because we love each other and I love you too much to ruin your life.” She said softly, knowing that her voice would break if she spoke it out loud.

“But you’re not ruining my life! Can’t you see that?! You make my life easier.” He reasoned, actually he was prepared to say anything, he was prepared to make a quick comeback. He knew that her pride won’t let her lose.

“No, I’m not. You’re being blind. I’m not good for you, see? If it wasn’t for me, you would be singing in front of thousands of fans by now, not in this shabby place arguing with someone like me. If it wasn’t for me, your life would have been easier and you wouldn’t have tons of people looking at you like there’s something wrong with you. If it wasn’t for me, you’d have been able to live your life to the fullest.”

“That’s not true . . .” was all he could say. Tears were threatening to fall yet he blinked them back. He knew that it would kill her to see him cry. So, even this time, he won’t look weak in front of her.

“It’s just. . . Please, don’t make it hard for the both of us. I love you and in order for you to be happy, goodbye.”

And with that, she stood on her toes and planted a soft kiss on his lips goodbye. He could tell that she was trying her best not to cry to, that this was harder for her than it was for him yet he could only be selfish now and care about his own agony.

“Don’t go.” He pleaded, just a tear away from getting down on his knees.

“I have to. Goodbye.”

Then she left.

And his life hadn’t been the same ever since.
