It was on the 24th of August 1774 that the empress of the Eastern Empire of Korea gave birth to a son. The boy was named Kim Jongwoon and he was the first in line to take over his father’s place as emperor of the East Korean Empire as he was their first born child.
From birth, he would be trained to be an even better emperor than his own father, but it was war that put a spanner in the works. Having a just born son was equal to having a weakness. It was weakness that the emperor of the Eastern Empire could not afford, and therefore, young prince Kim Jongwoon was sent away. But before he was given to farmers in the far north of Korea, the north that was not affected with influence of either the Eastern or Western empire, the empress gave a pendant to the farmers. A pendant which would be Jongwoon’s golden ticket to return to the empire -where he belonged- when he was old enough. The farmers promised the empress that they would never tell Jongwoon the truth about his origin, only to keep him safe at all costs; the less he knew, the safer it was. And when the time would finally come, the emperor would summon Jongwoon back to the Eastern Empire, and it was then that Jongwoon would learn about where he really came from.
It was that day that prince Jongwoon died, and farmer boy Jongwoon was born.
However, it was not only the East Korean Empire that suffered this fate.
