When You Can't Sleep and He Sings You a Lullaby

It’s been two…no..it’s almost three hours you kept on shifting at your bed. From left, to right, left again, right again then again then again, trying hard to draw yourself into a sleep.  You wondered what happened with you, since there’s no major concern running through your mind, everything’s fine, but why is this head just kept you awake all night long. You groaned annoyingly as you tried to reach for your phone to check the time. It’s 2.53.

You ran your finger scrolling down random stuffs at your phone before finally stumbling at a message from Sunggyu. Ah right, Sunggyu. You wondered if you should call him, who knows that he might help you with this annoying insomnia. You hestitated a bit, what if he’s already asleep now, what if he’s annoyed because of your call. But ignoring all the what-ifs running around at your head, you decided to just press the number 1 right away to speed dial Sunggyu. You need to at least hear his voice and check if he’s still up or not.

“Mmm ?” Sunggyu answered you sleepishly. Okay, he’s already asleep. You felt bad all of a sudden that your call did wake him up from the precious sleep that he never really had these past weeks. “Heh baby, I’m sorry..were you sleeping ?” you replied him back apologetically.

“Not anymore…what’s up ? Why aren’t you asleep yet ?” He asked you. You could hear a faint yawning sound from his line. “I-I don’t know…I can’t sleep..I’ve been rolling around this bed for like three hours, pushing myself to sleep, but it’s all in vain,” you answered him, to the most detailed bit.

“Too bad that bed isn’t me,” Sunggyu chuckled  and laughed. “Yah! You’re such a no help, Kim Sunggyu,” you raised your voice a bit and scolded him. “Well, what do you want me to do about it then, sweety ?” Sunggyu asked you back. You curved a smile as this question started leaning towards the thing you actually wanted him to do. Lullaby. ‘Lullaby..Lullaby…sing me a lullaby, Kim Sunggyu,’ you silently thought. Honestly, you’re too shy to even tell him that you needed him to sing a lullaby for you.

“I don’t know…what’s in your head now ? Something that’d help me to sleep,” you still didn’t dare to directly tell him to sing you a lullaby. Giving him a bait, you really hoped that Sunggyu would come up with the lullaby idea to answer your question.

“Why don’t you try counting sheeps ? or do something boring enough like reading a book to make you sleepy ?” you frowned as you heard such answer from him. ‘What the hell, Kim Sunggyu! You’re a singer, how could lullaby not wandering around your head right now?’ again, you scolded him silently in your thoughts.

“Tch…you’re such a no help!” you told him, pissed. “So…can I just go back to bed now ?” Sunggyu sounded way too too sleepy. You know that he’s so much tired and all right now, but seriously…does that even an appropriate question one would in such condition ?

“Yes! Have a GOOD NIGHT!” you snapped at him madly before finally pushing the red button and ended the call right away. You tossed your phone to the other side of the bed and started mumbling around as your head started burning. He sounded like he didn’t even care about you. “I hate you Kim Sunggyu, I hate you…now I don’t even care about sleeping anymore!” you cursed him under your breath.

After for like fifteen minutes mumbling with yourself, muttering random things about Sunggyu irritatedly as if someone would actually hear you, you jerked as the doorbell rang. “What the?!” you snapped.

“It’s in three in the morning,” you grumbled lowly as you made your way to the door. You e the door-camera to check who’s outside. It’s a guy…with a hoodie covered his head, you couldn’t even recognize who’s him until that guy tilted his head and called you out.

“Baby, it’s me,” you widened your eyes when you saw Sunggyu standing right in front of your door. “Wh-what are you doing here ?” you opened the door and asked him in surprised tone. Sunggyu just ignored your question as he started untying his sneakers and stepped into the apartment, walking past you. You closed the door and followed him who’s apparently walking  to your bedroom. “I thought you’re going back to bed, right?” you asked him confusedly.

“I didn’t say to whose bed, right ?” Sunggyu replied you with a faint smile. He then jumped to your bed and settled himself in the comfiest position.  All of a sudden you felt all bad after saying bad things about him earlier.“What ? You’re just gonna standing there?” he asked you when he realized you still stood there at the edge of the bed, staring at him in disbelief. “Come here baby,” Sunggyu told you to join him at the bed and you just followed him.

The moment you settled yourself at the bed, he lingered his arms around your waist and pulled you closer. He tucked a part of your hair behind your ear and started humming a song. A way too familiar song, it’s a song called ‘Entrust’ from his First Invasion album. You always told him how much you loved this song back then.

You couldn’t help but smiling as he kept on singing you that so-called lullaby. Afterall, Kim Sunggyu is someone you could really rely on…you felt kinda bad to even ever doubting about that earlier tonight.

Sunggyu paused when he realized you didn’t sleep, in fact you were all beaming and smiling. “You should’ve told me that all you wanted is a lullaby,” Sunggyu smiled as he pinched your cheeks lightly. You blushed knowing the fact that he actually knew about that.

You snuggled yourself closer to his. “Thanks for the live lullaby, Sunggyu-ah…I love you,” you mumbled to his chest. “I love you too,” he kissed your forehead. “Now go to sleep,” he then continued singing you the lullaby till you literally fall asleep.

-Dongwoo-

“Wow, a book..and you ?” Dongwoo asked you surprisedly as he stepped into the bedroom. “What’s so funny about ‘us’, Jang Dongwoo ?” you snorted back at him boldly. Too bold that Dongwoo even surprised at how you reacted. “What’s with that tone, baby ? What’s wrong ?” Dongwo walked closer to you.

“And by the way it’s pretty late, why aren’t you in bed and sleep ?” he asked you again. “I thought you’re asleep already,” Your head started burning as the words ‘sleep’ slurred out from his mouth. “I’ve been trying to go to sleep, Dongwoo-ah…for four hours…but I can’t!” you whined at him as flipping the book you’re currently reading harshly. Dongwoo couldn’t help but laughing at you. “Yah! What’s so funny about that!” you smacked Dongwoo’s arms.

“Are you sure you’re not waiting for me ?” Dongwoo teased you out. “No, I’m not!” you replied him blushingly. “Let’s go to sleep now, I’m getting all sleepy now..,” said Dongwoo as he tried to drag you back to the bed. You lazily followed Dongwoo and snuggled back to the bed.

“Come here, baby,” Closing his eyes already, Dongwoo slipped an arm under your waist and pulled you closer to his body. “Can you sing me a lullaby, Dongwoo-ah ?” you asked him. Dongwoo then opened his eyes and eyed you with a ‘no’. “What ? Why ? You’re a singer, baby…what’s with that expression ?” you asked him back with a sad face.

“Come on, maybe a lullaby will make me feel all sleepy..,” you whined to Dongwoo and started persuading him to sing for you. “B-baby…I’m the rapper of the group…singing isn’t my thing,” Dongwoo tried to defend himself and plastered an apologetic smile at his face. “Oh-hoh! But that doesn’t mean you can’t sing, right ? Come on come on come on~!!” you pushed Dongwoo and tickled him playfully which caused him to laugh like crazy. “Yah yah yah, stop stop,” Dongwoo grabbed your hand and stopped it.

“What about a rap lullaby instead ?” he offered you. “No no, I want you to sing for me,” you crossed your hands at your chest  and told him. “I have a bad voice, baby..how about a rap instead ?” he humbly talked about his voice and offered you about the rap again. You shook your head and pouted sadly.

“You sang Sunggyu oppa’s ‘Because’ in front of INSPIRITS last month at the concert..and now you don’t want to sing a lullaby for me..Tch..I guess you love them more than me,” you turned your back to Dongwoo and pretended to be mad. Dongwoo was all laughing and giggling hearing your accusation. “Well, they’re important for me..but that doesn’t make you’re less important either, baby,” Dongwoo moved closer to your back and embraced you with a backhug.

“Then sing a song for me,” you smiled as you felt Dongwoo’s arms wrapped around you. “What about counting sheeps together with me instead?” Dongwoo playfully asked you. “JANG DONG WOO!” you tossed his arms and smacked it as he kept on joking around and wouldn’t start singing. He laughed, again, and wrapped you even tighter. “Araso araso,” he gently whispered.

“What song should I sing ?” he asked you for a suggestion. “What about ‘Because’ ?” you came up with an idea. “That’s Sunggyu hyung’s song, I don’t want to make Sunggyu hyung appear at your dream instead of me!” he said.

“Haha, okay…just sing any song at your head now, DinoWoo,” you peacefully smiled and tried to close your eyes.

Because - Dongwoo

-Woohyun-

“Hello, baby,” you answered Woohyun’s call the second you realized your phone rang. Woohyun sounded way too surprised hearing you answered his extremely late night call. He just finished his schedule, and just wanted to check whether you already asleep or not and didn’t really expect you to answer that call. “H-hey, you’re stil awake ?” Woohyun asked you. “Uh-huh…in fact, I can’t even bat an eyelid, Woohyun-ah,” you replied him sadly. “I desperately wanted to sleep, but I can’t,” you cried out to him.

“Did something bother you ? What’s wrong ? You usually are a sleepyhead though,” Woohyun couldn’t help but start giggling as you started sounding like a needy five year old girl. “Stop laughing at me, Namu..,” you retorded at him. “I don’t know either, there’s nothing bothering my mind right now,” you then answered his question.

“Do you need me to go there and tire you out, maybe ?” Woohyun playfully cracked a joke. “Yah!! You head~,” you snapped at him. “Haha, but you want it too, right ?” Woohyun just wouldn’t stop asking you with such question that it started annoying you. “Namu-ah, be serious…I need to sleep, I have an important meeting tomorrow, I don’t want to be a panda-eyed girl tomorrow morning,” you whined to stop him.

“How about a lullaby ?” as expected from the greasy king, you curved a smile hearing his suggestion. “You know I never really had someone singing me a lullaby ever since I’m six, I’m not even sure that’d work on me now,” you laughed. “Well, my voice is different…I’m pretty sure you’ll feel all sleepy the moment I start singing,” Woohyun proudly told you. “Haha, okay…go ahead and start then, Mr. Nam,” you told him.

Woohyun then started singing. He was right afterall, the moment he started singing the first verse of 4Men’s ‘U’ you couldn’t help but felt your eyelids all heavy. You smiled as you could really feel Woohyun’s sincerity through the lyrics. ‘Thank you, Namu-ah,’ you silently thought. You were too lazy and sleepy already to open your eyes and thanked him.

“Baby ?” Woohyun asked when he finished the song. And yes, there’s no reply from you as you’ve already asleep even before he finished the song. “Good night, dear,” Woohyun whispered gently before he ended the call.
