"It's official! Kim Minjeong is a Golden Slam Winner after winning the gold medal in this year's Olympics! I heard she is the youngest to win the Golden Slam." 

"Karina! Yung table six! Kanina pa sila naghihintay!" Sigaw ng manager ng bar. Karina or Jimin quickly went to the kitchen and asked for the food the table ordered. She is working overtime, she needs the money for her sister's tuition fees. 

"Sorry for the wait po," nakangiting sabi ni Karina at iniabot sa mga lalaki ang order nila. After cleaning up the newly-vacated tables, Karina went inside the locker room and sat there quietly. Maaga pa bukas ang shift nya sa hospital. She graduated College, found a job in a hospital. She aspires to be a Doctor, pero hindi nila afford. Her father left them when she was six. Nag-asawa naman ng bago ang nanay nya at nagkaanak ulit, pero iniwan lang din sya nito pagkatapos manganak. 

Siya na lang ang bumubuhay sa pamilya nila. It was hard, pero she got used to it. 

"Karina naman! Maraming bagong dating na customers. Tumayo ka dyan at magtrabaho," the manager scolded. Karina smiled apologetically and walked outside to  wait on tables. 

After several hours of taking orders, seving orders and cleaning tables, she is finally done by the day. Hindi na nya hinintay ang iba nyang kasamahan sa trabaho. Sobrang pagod at sakit na ng buong katawan nya. 

Pumara sya ng jeep upang makauwi na sa bahay nila. Pagkaupong-pagkaupo nya, bumuntong-hininga sya at tumingin sa labas ng bintana. Nadaan nila ang hospital kung saan sya nagttrabaho. She swore to her life, she'll become a Doctor in that hospital. 

"Ma, para po!" She tapped the roof of the jeepney. Bumaba sya at agad naglakad papunta sa bahay nila. It is small, but it's theirs. 

Patay na ang mga ilaw at nakalock na rin ang pinto. Tulog na ata ang nanay at kapatid nya. She sighed. Sinilip nya sa kwarto ang kapatid nya at ngumiti. She is sleeping soundly, and Karina envied her for that. 

Imagine living in a life where you go home when everyone is asleep and leave before they wake up. Karina shook her head. Malapit na rin naman nyang maipon ang pambayad sa tuition ng bunso nyang kapatid, pero may kailangan pa silang bayaran na mga utang. 

Nagluto sya ng itlog at sinangag bago umalis. 

"Mars, may alam ka bang raket dyan?" Tanong ni Karina pagpasok sa locker room ng mga Nurse. 

"Akala ko ba nagwowork ka don sa bar?" Tanong ni Giselle at nagtaas ng kilay. 

"Oo nga pero kulang pa rin e," sabi ni Karina habang nagpapalit. She wore her blue scrubs and smiled triumphantly. It looks good on her. 

"Sipag mo naman, Mars." Karina shrugged bago kuhanin ang clipboard nya.

"Wala e. Mahirap maging mahirap," she said and smiled. Giselle hugged her to comfort her before standing up.

"Tara na." They walked to check on the patients.

"Pero my girlfriend is actually looking for a Private Duty Nurse. I can ask her if you want." Nakangiting sabi ni Giselle. 

"Sakto! Recommend mo ako ha," sabi ni Karina bago lumiko. May experience naman sya sa caregiving. May balak sana syang mag-abroad para mas mapadali ang pag-iipon nila, pero she does not want her younger sister to grow up without her. She can't bear not being on her family's side. 

"Good morning po! Are you feeling better na po?" She asked an elderly. The woman hummed and nodded her head. 

"Yes! Do you like sports, dear?" Karina puckered her lips before shaking her head. She couldn't care less. 

"Well, that . Ipapakilala sana kita sa apo ko. Kailan ba ako makakalabas dito?" Tanong ng matanda She is a VIP in the hospital. And with Karina's good looks and personality, she was assigned to tend the VIPs. They trust her. 

"If you continue drinking the prescribe meds po, you can go home soon. Kailangan lang po kayo iobserve ng Doctor for another 2 days." Sagot ni Karina. 

"Mabibisita pa kaya ako ng apo ko?"

"Siguro naman po, Lola." Nagpaalam na sya para macheck ang ibang patient. 

After checking the patients, she decided to buy herself a coffee. May spare minutes pa naman sya para magpahinga at kumain. She hummed her favorite song while walking her way to the cafeteria. Napatingin sya sa baba at nakita na natanggal ang sintas ng sapatos nya. Hindi na sya tumabi sa daan, instead, she bend in the middle of the hospital and tied her shoelaces. 

"Ehem," someone cleared their throat. Napatingin sa harapan nya si Karina. She saw a pair of slacks. Itinaas nya pa ang tingin at nakita na may babae pala sa harapan nya. Nagmadali syang tumayo nang maayos.

"Sorry po!" Isn't it funny? Nakakailangan sorry na ata sya ngayong araw pa lang. Karina noticed that the girl is smaller than her. For a few inches. 

"Idiot." The girl said before walking away. Napakunot naman ang noo ni Karina. Ang laki laki naman ng daan, pero bakit tumigil pa ang babae na yon sa harap nya? 

"Uy! Di mo ba yon kilala?" Tanong ni Giselle at inakbayan sya. She is taller than the girl, kaya naman ang awkward ng position nila ngayon. 

"Kailangan bang kilala ko sya?" She asked back and rolled her eyes. She does not want to waste her time knowing such a rude person. 

"Si Kim Minjeong yun, gago. Her grandmother is in the hospital nga e! Sya kaya yung Golden Slam winner."

But then again, Karina couldn't care less about this Kim Minjeong girl.
