final.

it will be forever

Minjoo stood by the side of the road, tipping on her toes and leaning her body a bit to check the far side of the highway, seemingly waiting for something.

It was just afternoon, and Minjoo just got out of her work. She had a smooth day so far, and nothing could ruin her day. Her heels were killing her but that was fine, she could endure a little bit more because she knew that the person that she had been waiting for was on her way already.

One last glance at the busy road, Minjoo whipped her cellphone up and saw message notifications from her secretary and Yuri. The former was reminding her that she had an interview in two days while for the latter, she was telling Minjoo how excited she was to have dinner with them tomorrow at the new restaurant in town.

Minjoo composed replies for both of them, one reply was professional and nice while the other reply one was equally eager — and sent them respectively. And once she tucked her phone inside her pocket, as if on cue, a black car pulled over in front of her.

The driver rolled the window down then let out a playful whistle, “Need a lift, miss?”

Minjoo rolled her eyes, a smile playing on her lips as she recognized that car, that driver, and that voice. “Silly,” She huffed out and the driver barked out a soft laugh before gesturing to her to get inside the car which the older woman did.

As per usual, Minjoo made herself comfortable inside the car then glanced at Yujin who was staring at her with a small smile etched on her lips. “Had a good day at work? You don’t have a scowl on your face,” Yujin commented before continuing to drive along the busy highway of Seoul.

Minjoo snorted then shrugged afterwards, “Hmm. Better than yesterday, that is for sure.” She sheepishly answered and Yujin chuckled.

A second later, Minjoo reached for Yujin’s phone that was resting on the dashboard and changed the song that was blasting off from the car speakers, earning a whine from Yujin herself. “Hey! I was vibing to it.”

Minjoo placed the phone back on the dashboard after changing the music from I Couldn’t Be More In Love by The 1975 to I Like Me Better by Lauv. “The song is so boring as , I don’t know why you love that so much.” commented Minjoo nonchalantly, in a beat.

Yujin looked offended at the slander but before she could even throw a bad remark at the current song that was playing, Minjoo started to sing along with it so Yujin could just keep shut and shake her head in amusement as she drove.

Minjoo continued to sing along with a loud voice as she always did, “Midnight into morning coffee. Burning through the hours talking~” She sang passionately, nudging her shoulders on Yujin’s shoulders as if to encourage her to sing along.

Yujin could only let out a silent laugh before also singing along to the chorus. “Damn, I like me better when I’m with you. I like me better when I’m with you. I knew from the first time, I’d stay for a long time ‘cause, I like me better when,” The both of them looked at each other and in sync, sang the line.

“I like me better when I’m with you.” They bursted out laughing afterwards, and Minjoo teased Yujin about grimacing at the song at first but knew the lyrics perfectly.

In the midst of bobbing her head and humming along with the songs, Minjoo noticed that Yujin took out something from her pocket when they halted on a red light. At first, Minjoo did not do anything at first, taking her phone out and replied to a client.

There was a flickering sound and soon after, the smell of smoke slowly filled up the car. Minjoo glanced at Yujin who was driving while smoking. Clicking her tongue silently, the older woman paused, composing a reply before presenting her hand before Yujin.

“Can I have a drag?” Minjoo asked plainly, and Yujin gave her an innocent look before taking off the stick from her lips then carefully handed it to Minjoo and continued to focus on driving.

The older woman placed the phone down on her lap first before rolling the window down for a little bit then flicked the cigarette outside. She rolled up the window again after with a satisfied smile playing on her red lips before continuing typing away.

Yujin subconsciously presented her hand to Minjoo, asking for the cigarette but when she glanced away from the road and to the woman — the latter wasn’t holding her cigarette anymore. “What did you do?”

Minjoo hid a frown and spared the younger woman a look. “I told you to quit smoking, you’re at it again. It’s bad for your health, Yujin.” hissed the older woman and Yujin just chuckled nervously.

“I’m still working on that, sorry.” murmured Yujin, and her tone was sincere that it almost moved Minjoo’s heart.

Eventually, Minjoo let it go this time and Yujin’s phone rang after a little silence. The younger woman disconnected it from the speaker and accepted it so Minjoo reached to open the radio.

“Hello! Uhm, yep… Oh really? That’s wonderful! Alright. I’ll talk to you soon. Thank you.” Yujin’s conversation through the phone piqued Minjoo’s nosy interest and had a thought that it might be the employer from that one magazine company that Yujin applied to two weeks ago.

She couldn’t help but to whisper, “You got the job?” while Yujin was having a call. The latter just gave her a look then under her breath, replied with, ‘Shh. And please turn the volume down low.’

“Oh my god, you finally got it?” Minjoo asked excitedly from her seat, looking at Yujin with her huge sparkly eyes.

Yujin glanced at her, putting her phone away, then blinked in confusion as if she had no clue what the other woman was talking about but equally excitedly answered back, “I think so? So, I met this guy at a bar two nights ago and he’s a co-owner of a resort in Jeju Island. We kinda hit it off, we loved surfing together, and I kinda asked if he could give us a discount or something since we’re planning to leave and have a vacation there soon.”

Halfway listening to the story, Minjoo deflated and sank into her seat. “What?”

Yujin nodded innocently, “Yeah.”

Minjoo gave her a look. “Then what about that job? The magazine one.”

“Oh that, they never called back, really. It’s not like I want to work there. Anyway, aren’t you hyped?! He might even give us exclusive deals if I ever talk my way. We’ll have a nice vacation in Jeju.” Yujin answered and that made Minjoo shake her head in disappointment.

“You should really find a job soon.” Minjoo said, her voice trailing off.

Yujin noticed the disappointment in her tone, pursing her lips together. She tried to think of the possible topic that might distract the woman who looked displeased while lying back on her seat.

A light bulb appeared and silently, Yujin moved her right hand away from the wheel and stretched it closer to Minjoo, her hand forming into a thumbs up but they knew better.

Minjoo noticed it, squinting her eyes on Yujin. “You’re driving,” She pointed out but getting amused already, her gaze lowering down to Yujin’s hand that was giving her a thumbs up.

Without even sparing her a glance, Yujin smirked then started to wiggle her thumb a little bit. “Just say that you’re scared that I will win, loser!” exclaimed Yujin in a playful gruff voice which made Minjoo laugh.

Minjoo also showed her thumb. “Who said I’m scared, you ugly!” She said in a very girly, high-pitched tone while also wiggling her thumb as if the thumb was speaking.

They then had an intense thumb wrestling that got Minjoo shrieking to her seat. Yujin was also grunting playfully, and slumped on her seat when Minjoo’s thumb caught hers down which meant the older woman won. Minjoo looked happy because of it, sticking her tongue out to annoy Yujin even more.

But really, Yujin thought it was endearing. She continued to drive with a big smile lingering on her lips while Minjoo blabbered about her being a stupid big loser beside her.

It was silly really, but it had been their thing. A lot of people said that they were a weird pair, however, it was the truth anyway. Both could understand one another and equally weird, having the same humor too. They were indeed a great match for each other. They have their own silly little world. However, it didn’t matter, they were enjoying it and they were happy over their matching wholesome weirdness.

After a comfortable silence between them, Minjoo who was staring outside suddenly spoke. “Namsan Tower is really ugly there. Not a good attraction.” She said as she eyed the tower that was from a distance.

Yujin glanced at her and snorted, “What’s with you and your one-sided hate over Namsan Tower?” She asked, amused.

Minjoo shrugged, “It’s just really ugly? I don’t know. Not so pleasing to my eyes.” She commented then looked away. She heard Yujin laugh.

“No to Namsan Tower slander, woman! It’s not even doing anything bad to you. Besides, Namsan Tower is like… the Eiffel Tower of South Korea.” Yujin replied back mischievously which made Minjoo gasp exaggeratedly.

The older woman jabbed Yujin’s side, “You just did not!” She repeatedly nudged the younger woman until the latter fought back while driving, laughing. Minjoo giggled, slapping Yujin playfully.

“Hey, hey! I’m driving!”

After the usual chaotic ride home, they finally reached Minjoo’s house and the latter took her things before going out of the car but before she could even close the door, she peeked in a little. “Hey, be careful driving, alright? Don’t forget that we’ll have dinner with Yuri and Yena at that new burger place called Booger Burger.”

Yujin was going to help a mutual friend of theirs move out and just drove Minjoo home before going there. The younger woman smiled lazily at Minjoo, “Of course. I’ll see you tomorrow then.”

Minjoo nodded and before she could even close the door, she said, “Love you!” Before giving her a finger heart

Yujin hummed, and in an instant, also threw a silly finger heart towards the older woman. “Love you too.” She replied back with a smile and with that, Minjoo closed the door and went inside the house.

Once she saw that Minjoo was inside, Yujin took a deep breath before maneuvering the car out of the driveway and went on her way.

“How’s the wedding preparation going?” Minjoo asked out of the blue as the menu was handed to them, pleasantly surprised at how lavish the whole restaurant was and it had great service. She was also surprised that this place offers other expensive cuisine other than their… unhealthy burger. However, the name of the place itself ruined everything but who was Minjoo to complain over that?

Yena and Yuri glanced at each other, a known spark ignited between them. Minjoo had to swallow down the lump on .

“Oooh, great! We’re actually thinking of a great band to hire.” Yena answered, draping her arm across her lover’s shoulders. Yuri melted in her arms.

Yujin hummed, “How about Boll Zack and Friends? Heard they were good but cheap.” She suggested as she fiddled with the menu, frowning at how ridiculously expensive this place’s french fries were but it looked nothing special.

Minjoo lit up, “Or maybe, Kiss My Arse? They’re quite popular locally. Always performing in wedding gigs.” She said, and took a swig from her water. “I heard them sing once when I attended Kibum’s wedding three months ago. They’re crazy and lit. I’m sure they were drunk as when they perfomed.”

Yuri gasped, considering it but Yena immediately piped in. “Great choices, however, I think I’ll stick on hiring SweatyPits as our performers in our wedding. I actually contacted them already.” She revealed which made Yuri’s eyes widened.

“Baby?! Really? Oh my god, I love SweatyPits! I can’t believe you really got them to perform in our wedding, my god.” Yuri exclaimed, and pulled Yena for a scandalous kiss but no one batted an eye. As if it wasn’t enough, Yuri continued to shower her fiance with kisses. Yena looked satisfied.

Minjoo and Yujin glanced at each other, already used to their long-time friends’ over-sweetness. It had been like that since highschool. They were hating the smooching noises so Minjoo decided to pull Yujin in their own world.

“So, what do you want to order, mademoiselle?” Minjoo started off in English with a weird French accent, and her pronunciation was off. Yujin immediately got her signal and got into acting too.

“I want to eat their, hmm, signature booger burger.” Yujin replied back in fluent English with a funny accent, exaggerating her emphasis on words which made Minjoo giggle.

Minjoo continued on, her expressions on point like a rich, lavish Karen businesswoman but on crack. “Don’t their signature dish sound off? What if their secret ingredient is a human’s booger?” She continued on, even covering in shock. Even herself got disgusted at her own thoughts but carried on anyway.

At this point, Yuri and Yena were watching the pair across them with dead eyes, displeased. It was a very usual sight however, there was a completely different reason why the two didn’t look very… happy with their actions.

Yujin leaned in closer to Minjoo, just an inch away from her face with a smug look then replied, “Well, well, it can be a good alternative for salt. Or additional flavoring to the burger.” She said, and Minjoo couldn’t take it anymore, letting out a guffaw.

Minjoo slapped Yujin’s chest, “Oh my god, you’re so disgusting!” She said while laughing, tears rolling out from her eyes. Yujin raised her hands up in the air, also breathless from laughing.

“What! You started it!” They just continued to laugh, ignoring the weird stares from the other tables and after calming down, they looked at Yuri and Yena who looked very unhappy.

Yuri was the first one to speak, she slapped the table, making the glass and utensils on top of it rattle. “I can’t do this. We can’t do this anymore.” She exclaimed, shaking her head and looking very dismayed.

Yujin and Minjoo frowned. The latter spoke very carefully, “Yul… I know that weddings are stressful but you guys are almost there, just hang on, okay? Besides, we know the feeling.” She said in a very soothing tone, oblivious at her best friend’s anger towards a different issue. Yujin agreed with her.

Yena shook her head, “No, no, we’re fine. We’re good.” She pointed out.

Yuri slapped the table again, this time harder — that made Yujin and Minjoo flinch from their seats. “Just what the are you two doing?” hissed the woman, eyes twitching. Yena sighed beside her and reached for her trembling hands but did not say anything.

Yujin and Minjoo dumbfounded, “W-We.. I, well—” Minjoo stammered, ready to explain their usual weird behavior but Yuri spoke again aggressively.

“You two are not together! This is not ing normal. Both of your behaviors.” Yuri yelled with a trembling voice, obviously furious and disappointed.

The other pair was surprised at the sudden outburst, stunned. “What?”

Yuri took a huge deep breath that she almost in the entire glassware from the table. “You guys have been separated for months now, six months! You’re getting divorced. And yet you two act like this… weird little s together!? Hanging everyday together as if it’s not a big deal. It’s weird. Freaking weird!” She said, agitated.

Minjoo frowned, not really fully understanding what her friend was saying but she replied anyway, “Just what…? I mean, yeah, we’re separated but we’re on good terms. We remained best friends despite it. Isn’t this better? You guys should be happy for us.”

Yujin blinked, a little bit bewildered but Minjoo’s troubled look made her fumble on her words to help her face Yuri’s sudden wrath. “Yeah. We used to fight a lot but now, look, we’re all good. The perfect breakup, perfect closure too. I don’t quite understand why you’re mad…” She chirped to keep up the light atmosphere.

Yuri’s eyes really went red, and there was smoke coming out from her nostrils. She looked like an angry bull ready to charge towards them. “You know what?” Yuri murmured, defeated, and stood up from her seat. “I can’t take this anymore. We’re the ones who can’t ing understand the both of you.” added the woman and marched away.

Yena sprang up from her seat also, and gave her friends a look of disapproval. “Sorry but yeah, we can’t really comprehend this no matter what. You two are not lovers anymore. You two are separated. Act like it.” She whispered before shaking her head then followed her fiance.

Yujin and Minjoo were both dumbfounded, and they looked at each other.

“Damn, they’re sooo mad.” Minjoo whispered in an accented tone.

Yujin whispered back with the same tone earlier, “So, so mad.”

They went out of the place with full stomach, not minding their friends because for sure, in a few days or so — they were all back to normal.

As they drove home, they couldn’t help but to talk about it.

“Yuri and Yena are crazy,” Minjoo said, and Yujin looked at her, wearing a lazy smile then nodded. “We’ve been best friends for more than a decade, we were best of friends first when we became lovers. We hang out all the time! Is it bad that exes are not on bad terms anymore? They can’t be friends now?” Minjoo continued to rant her heart’s out.

Yujin just silently listened, glancing at Minjoo from time to time. “I don’t think it’s weird.”

Minjoo nodded, “I do too.”

The car was parked soon after in Minjoo’s house and they both walked side by side. They just stopped near the porch, and stared at each other. Minjoo stared at Yujin who looked absolutely dashing with her simple outfit. Well, her ex-wife was good-looking, no one could deny that.

Yujin noticed the stare and gave her a dizzying smile. “Thanks for today. I enjoyed the night even though, yeah.” She said, scratching her nape.

Minjoo laughed at her, “Me too, Yujin. Me too.”

Yujin bit her lower lip then awkwardly shifted, pointing at the pathway that would lead at Minjoo’s backyard. “So, I’ll go now? See you tomorrow then?”

The older woman nodded with a smile, “Of course. Ah, anyway, should I hire a helper to clean the guest room that you’re staying at?” She asked, knowing that Yujin didn’t particularly love cleaning but Yujin shook her head, thanking her though.

“Alright. Good night, Yujin. Love you!” Minjoo finally bid her goodbye, a little bit reluctant but she backed off immediately, walking to the front door of her house. She used to open and enter this door with Yujin beside her…

Yujin threw her one last smile. “Good night, Minjoo. Love you too.” And she went to the studio-like guest room of Minjoo’s house, where she was currently staying after they broke up.

Minjoo and Yujin had been married for three years but before their marriage went downhill, they were best of friends. And they couldn’t simply throw that precious friendship away, even when they were dating — they were still best friends. No one could change that.

And so, when they mutually decided to have a divorce after realizing that they wouldn’t work anymore, they couldn’t let go of that precious friendship that had been running for more than a decade or so. It was Minjoo’s idea, for them to be on good terms and hang out like they used to (but as friends) because even though their marriage did not work out — she couldn’t simply throw Yujin away, the latter held a huge part in Minjoo’s life.

Yujin went along, she couldn’t let go. She always loved to follow Minjoo along anyway. That was why this set-up was pretty much mutual. It was weird for most people but Yujin and Minjoo knew better, they were the ones who could understand each other anyway.

Despite the awful sound of ‘you guys broke off your marriage, and are separated’, they couldn’t let go of their friendship, they couldn’t let go of each other.

People be damned. Yujin and Minjoo had their own weird ways, weird world, weird rules. Nothing else mattered as long as the both of them were okay with it.

Minjoo sighed as she entered her office, feeling absolutely exhausted after that interview. She, for sure, was going to get a lot of hate from those edgy teens later. Well, she had called their idol ‘talentless’ on national television but couldn’t just stop blabbering truth. But that was less of her concern right now because Sakura had just called her in because they had a big client, another work to deal with.

Her head was pounding already, and it was just nearing noon. Once noon passes, she would definitely rethink her life choices and ask herself why she became a trend analyzer and built a media company instead of being a barista. No stressful bull like this, just making coffee all ing damn day. It sounded more pleasing, really.

The moment she sat on her swivel chair, she almost fell off from it because the door suddenly opened wide and hit the wall — creating a loud noise. It shocked Minjoo. Thankfully, she managed to hold on to the edge of her desk.

Behold, Sakura, who doesn’t know how to enter the office silently or even knock first apparently — stood by the door, and immediately stepped inside, shutting the door close loudly to the point the walls shook before rushing to Minjoo.

Sometimes, Minjoo couldn’t believe that she was running her own media company with this woman. But hey, even if she was like this, Sakura’s a highly-intelligent woman. And she’s a close friend. Minjoo couldn’t just respect her habits.

“We have a new client, and I’ve been—”

“Do you think we’re weird, Sakura?” Minjoo cut her off which made Sakura press her lips into a thin line.

Minjoo just didn’t want to talk about work even just for a few moments, really. And the thought had been bugging her since last night that she lost a few hours of sleep. Even though Yuri texted her the next morning, apologizing for what she had said and done, Minjoo still thought of it.

Sakura blinked, staring at her friend before pointing at herself and Minjoo. “...We? Well, I’m going to be really honest, yeah. I know I’m weird and—”

She was once again cut off by Minjoo with narrowed eyes, “No,” She firmly said and then clarified. “Me and Yujin.”

Sakura’s mouth formed into an ‘o’ shape, realizing then slowly nodded, “Right.” She murmured, “You and your ex-wife.” mocked the older woman which made Minjoo squint at her. “What’s wrong this time? Finally realized that it’s a mistake letting her go?”

Minjoo immediately shook her head. “Not that.” She answered, waving her hand off before telling her what happened yesterday night, about Yuri making a fuss over their relationship.

Sakura sat through these rants, already used to it while eating bubblegum that she opened in the midst of the one-sided conversation. The older woman let Minjoo pour her heart’s out ranting, not like she had any choice anyway. It had been like this for years.

Once Minjoo was done, she repeated her question from earlier, “So… Do you think we’re weird?” Minjoo anticipated Sakura’s answer.

Sakura stared at her silently for a few seconds then shrugged off her shoulders. “I really don’t know what to say, actually. I mean, to me, you guys are a weird couple but who am I to judge?” She said, loudly chewing the bubblegum in .

Minjoo let out a disappointed sigh, shaking her head. “Geez, thanks for the answer.”

Sakura gave her a dead- look. “I don’t know what to say, really. As long as you guys both are okay with that kind of set-up then okay however, I do think it’s for the best to move on in your lives. Yujin still sleeps in your guest room, right?”

Minjoo frowned slightly, her brow twitching. “Yeah, she still haven’t found a place to stay—”

Sakura shrugged, “Just my take though. The situation will be much better if you guys spend less time with each other. Separated couples don’t do what you guys do but then, you guys are… special in your own ways anyway.” She mumbled before finally placing the clipboard on top of Minjoo’s desk.

She just literally sugar-coated the sentence, “Yep, you guys are both weird but that’s alright”. Sakura knew her friend wouldn’t let go of Yujin no matter what anyway but she still tried, and that was her best shot!

And before Minjoo could say anything, Sakura showed her the papers which made the younger woman close , alright, work. She just sighed, leaning back against her chair then reached for her water bottle, ready to drink.

“So… our new client, Lee Hyunseo.” Sakura started off and Minjoo spat, choking on her water.

Sakura immediately took the papers away from her table, “What the heck? You’re nasty.” She exclaimed, and watched Minjoo cough harshly, grimacing at the sight of translucent liquid dripping off from Minjoo’s noise.

“No ing way,” Minjoo exclaimed, feeling very disheartened. “I just dissed her on national television just half an hour ago!”

Sakura hummed, flipping the paper and did not even spare her a glance. “Not my problem,” She nonchalantly said before adding, “She already signed the contract and we’re about to meet her soon.” She then showed Minjoo the papers.

Minjoo sunk into her seat, covering her face with her hands then groaned very loudly. “God’s testing me.”

“You should really see some new girls,” Ryujin said beside Yujin as they entered the food court.

Yujin, who was looking around and trying to find something nice to eat, turned to her with a dumbfounded expression. “Nah, not now.”

Ryujin gave her friend a sigh, dramatically waving her hand. “You and Minjoo are separated.” She pointed out, and Yujin gave her a look as if she was crazy.

“Yeah but I don’t want to. I really don’t know? Uhm, I guess I’m not up for it. The divorce is still in process.” Yujin answered with hesitance lingering in her voice, not sure what to answer.

The older woman clicked her tongue, facing Yujin, and shook her head in disapproval. “No, no, no. I don’t like seeing you like this, dude. You should really shoot your shot and win some girls. You’re a single woman now!” She encouraged her, and Yujin gave it a thought but was not too convinced.

Ryujin sighed to herself, knowing that she needed to take these matters into her own hands. She looked around the not-so-crowded food court, and spotted a tall woman behind the counter of a yogurt stall. With Yujin groggily following her, Ryujin made a bee-line towards the stall and lined up.

She then faced her friend again who was rubbing her eyes, still looking very disheveled and sleepy. “You need to move on from Minjoo,” The older woman firmly stated, and took a step backwards when the line moved.

Yujin stared at her lazily, “I’m trying.” answered the taller one plainly.

“You need to try harder! I don’t want you to get… left behind or whatever. You need to date other people and forget.” Ryujin said with a raised voice, earning some attention but they did not pay any mind to it, continuing their conversation.

Yujin rubbed her nose, looking at her friend with pitiful eyes. “I tried, you know. I even had a one-night stand. It was wonderful but I don’t know. My heart still feels empty— and by the way, don’t tell Minjoo about Gaeul, she doesn’t know about that.” She had a guilty expression written all over her face.

“It’s because you only search for Minjoo. Ugh, stop it, really. Move on, Yujin. Knowing Minjoo, that woman won’t go back to you.” Ryujin said, and immediately closed when Yujin looked at her, lips puckered in a sad manner.

With a heavy sigh, the older woman reached for Yujin’s shoulders and squeezed it. “This is why I’m helping you, dude. You still have a chance to be happy again, not with Minjoo this time but with someone even better, alright?”

Yujin didn’t look pleased at the idea but nodded anyway like she had no option, “Alright,” She finally surrendered. “But how?”

They advanced forward to the line, and there was just one customer in front of them, getting her yogurt cup already. Ryujin gave her a big grin, “By finding! Now, now. There’s a lot of pretty good girls there.” She paused and they were finally in the very front of the line.

The tall woman who was serving yogurt, Wonyoung, written in her name tag gave them a bored look. “What can I get for you today? Of course, yogurt, but what kind of yogurt?”

Ryujin pointed her index finger at the yogurt girl, “Great example is this beautiful yogurt girl.” She said, giving her a sleazy smile. Yujin just blinked.

Wonyoung, the yogurt girl, looked a little bit surprised but she remained still, waiting for their orders as she picked on her nails.

Ryujin leaned in the counter and asked casually, “Will you date my friend here? I think you guys will look great together.”

The yogurt girl processed what Ryujin had said first then glanced at the taller woman who was beside her, charmed at first sight. So, with her bored expression, she shrugged and answered after a few seconds of thinking, “Sure, why not?” She then tilted her head, checking Yujin further. “My shift will end in ten, wait for me and let’s talk about our upcoming date then. I’m Wonyoung, by the way.”

Ryujin balled her fist in triumph before glancing at Yujin who was awkwardly standing there so the older woman nudged her using her elbow but the other girl looked too stunned, not sure of what to do.

“Awesome, my friend will wait for you gladly. I’m Ryujin, and this one right here, the one who will rock your world is Yujin.” Ryujin said, and was about to say something that would boost Wonyoung into liking her friend more but the guy that was lining up behind them yelled out a complaint.

“You gays take your business out of here, please. I just want to ing eat yogurt badly!”

Yujin just gave him a lazy, apologetic look while Ryujin frowned at him. Wonyoung shrugged, and asked them, “So, do you guys want to order yogurt?”

Yujin and Ryujin turned to her in sync and then nodded before answering also at the same time, “Yes, please.”

It was a sunny Saturday, and annoyingly to some of them, it was still summer and winter was still yet to come. When Minjoo stepped outside, she almost melted but continued anyway, heat wasn’t a valid reason to stop working, and just stay in her cold bathtub for hours.

Minjoo made her way towards the back of her house, going to the guest room where Yujin was currently staying. She opened the door without even knocking, it was a habit, and Yujin did not mind it anyway.

She entered the room, passing through beautiful paintings and half-way painted canvases, drying paint splattered all over the plastic covered floor. Minjoo was so used to this sight already.

The older woman finally saw her target, lying down on her messy bed, eating Doritos — and crying at the show that she was watching on her television. With a sigh, Minjoo strutted towards there and took a peek at what Yujin was watching that made her cry.

Inside Out. Yes, that famous cartoon. And it was showing one of the funny scenes, too.

“You’re crying over that?” Minjoo asked in a dead tone.

Yujin finally noticed her but she wasn’t even surprised at her sudden appearance, just sniffling and sat up as she wiped her greasy, cheese dusted fingertips on her pants before looking at Minjoo. “Yeah, it’s so ing horrible. It’s a very, very sad movie.” She whispered then shook her head. “What’s up?”

Minjoo ignored her whines and finally said her purpose as she plopped herself down beside Yujin, “Can you drive me later?” She said and started to rant that she was too tired to drive, so stressed because of her work.

Yujin gave her a sad look, “Oh, I can’t. Sorry. I have to go somewhere. I’ll be leaving in… half an hour.” She honestly answered and Minjoo gave her a curious look.

“Where are you going?” Minjoo asked, looking at Yujin intently.

The younger woman scratched her cheek, giving her an awkward smile. “On a date.” She truthfully replied, and Minjoo was frozen for a good few seconds. She only snapped back in reality when Yujin gave her a worried look.

Minjoo composed herself but she was still stunned, “Uhm. Wow, alright.” She managed to gasp out.

Yujin gave her a pointed look, “It was just sudden too and well, is it okay?”

Minjoo was silent for a moment then started to laugh, it was a stiff and forced laugh. Yujin watched her carefully, on her own bottom lip. After calming down, Minjoo started to shake her head in amusement, “Of course, it’s more than okay, Yujin. I’m actually happy for you! T-That’s great, you should really start dating.” She squeaked out, gathering all the sincerity she could get but failed — it sounded so… awkward, instead.

But really, she was happy for Yujin. They weren’t happily married now anyway! It had been more than six months now since they called it quits. Why would dating not be a good idea? Minjoo would love to date too, if she wasn’t just piled with work.

Yujin gave her a tight smile, “Thank you.”

Minjoo nodded and reached for Yujin’s face, patting her cheek lovingly. “You should prepare now then! I’ll just drive later.” She said, and stood up from Yujin’s bed. Yujin’s sharp eyes just followed her. “Have fun on your date! Tell me the deets later. Bye!” Before Yujin could even say something, Minjoo immediately walked out.

The older woman continued to walk down and halted her steps midway, taking a deep breath before she went inside her house, mind muddled.

Even when she drove to work, she couldn’t stop thinking of it. Eh, she wasn’t just too used to hearing Yujin having a date with someone because hello? They dated for a long time and were married for years once. Minjoo wasn’t used to learning that Yujin was dating someone else that wasn’t her.

Minjoo just shook her head, and knocked her head on the steering wheel when the car halted under the red light, groaning. She should be happy! Of course, yes, yes. They were finally moving on from their lives. There was no chance for the both of them, Minjoo would never let it happen.

She and Yujin weren’t… going to work out anymore. She knew that she and Yujin would continue fighting like those unhappy, annoying married couples if they ever reconciled again, romantically. This was for the best.

Why would she be worried about that? Minjoo thought as she walked up to her office. She had a job that she should be worrying about. As she stared at her distorted reflection on the elevator, Minjoo slapped herself a few times and it honestly made her feel better.

Yujin was already grown up. She could live off without Minjoo well. She could do whatever she wanted.

When she entered the conference room, she looked haggard. Sakura lit up when she saw her and immediately pulled her, “They’re here. Just using the bathroom.”

As if on cue, three people entered the room — the two were wearing office suits while the one in the middle, with red hair tied up into space buns and bored look etched on her face was wearing a black bomber jacket, skirt and leggings, converse, and denim shirt. She looked like a… very emo, intimidating version of Jojo Siwa.

Minjoo immediately put up her professional act, smiling brightly at Lee Hyunseo, or most known as Leeseo — the new rising solo artist in South Korea. Her music was bull but the general public loved it. Minjoo literally called this girl ‘talentless’ on national television, live, almost a week ago but here they were.

“Welcome to IZ Media Co., I’m Kim Minjoo, the co-CEO and this is Sakura, the other CEO.” Minjoo greeted politely and offered her hand for a handshake.

Leeseo just arched her brow up, chewing her gum loudly, arms remained crosed. The corner of Minjoo’s lips twitched when Leeseo stared at her hand and did not take it, instead, she walked towards the couch and sat here, her boot cladded feet up on the cushion.

Minjoo closed her fingers and took a deep breath, “She most likely saw the news of me calling her stuff.” She thought and just shrugged it off, this was work. Be professional. With that, she glanced at Sakura who was looking at her, shrugging.

Afterwards, Minjoo and Sakura finally presented. And the teenage girl just boredly listened and would mostly just fumble on her phone.

“How was the date? Ryujin told me about it.” Yena asked Yujin who was just looking around the bookstore with disinterest.

The four of them were currently in a bookstore. They agreed to meet after their hang-out that became a disaster after Yuri threw a fit. But they were all good now, fights like that happened sometimes — however, they were close friends for more than a decade now that they couldn’t just stay mad at each other for too long.

“Yeah, how was it?” Minjoo piped in, peeking from one of the shelves. Yuri was just at the side, engrossed reading a book titled, ‘How To Have A Good Sleep’ but her attention was caught after she heard the word ‘date’.

Yujin shook her head, lifting her hand to touch the edge of some books, pretending to check the titles out but just slid her fingertip over, painting it with dust. “Nah, we’re not a match. She just kept talking about herself and did not even let me speak much. She’s pretty and all but meh,” She dismissed the idea of having a second date with the yogurt girl.

Actually, Yujin even purposely wrote the wrong number when Wonyoung asked for her contact details.

Yena just laughed and Minjoo snorted, disappearing in the aisle again, desperately searching for a certain book. “That’s too bad. Hope you find someone better next time.” They heard Minjoo say, her voice muffled and coming from a distance.

Yujin just shrugged and continued to look around. She saw Minjoo pulling Yuri with her, and the former squealed when she finally saw the book that she had been looking for all around. She got copies of them then walked sneakily walked to the ‘People’s Top Picks’ section and shoved the copies there, she even shoved one of the books that was displayed properly on the top — replacing it with the book titled, ‘And We Say ‘ ‘em All, Come What May’.

Minjoo herself wrote it and she had been… promoting her book like this. It was endearing, really. Yujin could only smile and pretend she did not see what the woman did, continuing to roam around the bookstore until she bumped into someone very familiar.

She looked surprised to see Yujin there at the bookstore too but she did not look displeased, happy even. “Yujin.” She softly called with a hint of shyness lying underneath.

“Gaeul,” Yujin breathlessly said, and slightly leaned onto the shelf. “Hi, how are you?”

Gaeul smiled at her shyly. “Been doing well, how about you? It’s been a while.”

Yujin smiled back sweetly. “Uhm, also great. It’s been a while indeed,” She then looked around, “Looking for books?”

Biting her lower lip, Gaeul nodded, “Kind of. Something to give as a present for my niece.” She said, then showed her a book.

Yujin nodded understandingly, “Wow, that’s nice. Uhm.” She was a little bit awkward, “You look great, by the way.” She complimented instead, but it was sincere. She just really had nothing to say much but did not want for their conversation to die.

She did like Gaeul after all. She reminded Yujin of Minjoo but she was gentler, shy, and less chaotic. That was why she was attracted but Yujin knew that Gaeul was a sweet woman.

“Thank you,” Gaeul was blushing at that point, and gave her a shy look. “You’re still as charming as ever.” She genuinely complimented back and that made Yujin chuckle, feeling a little bit shy.

“I really thought I wouldn’t be able to see you again after that… night.” Gaeul’s voice trailed off, her cheeks dusted with pink. Yujin her lower lip, also agreeing. “Can I stay in contact with you? Is that possible?”

Yujin was stunned for a whole second but immediately nodded anyway, what was wrong with that? Gaeul was such a sweet woman! The older woman took out her phone and typed Yujin’s number that the latter herself was reciting. And after that, they just looked at each other but before either of them could say anything, Yena spotted them, whistling.

“What’s up?” Yena piped in, “Who’s that, Yuj?”

Yuri saw that they were huddling there with an unfamiliar woman so she tugged Minjoo’s sleeves that was subtly fixing her book on the display but when she saw what Yuri was pointing at, they immediately went.

“Ah, everyone. This is Gaeul.” Yujin briefly introduced and Gaeul just politely smiled at them. “They’re my friends.”

Minjoo immediately introduced herself, offering her hand for a handshake. “Minjoo,” She said in a friendly manner, smiling tightly. Gaeul just shook her hand briefly, returning her smile.

“I’m Yuri and this is my fiance, Yena.” Yuri introduced herself and her soon-to-be-wife who just gave Gaeul a friendly wave and smile.

Gaeul was a little bit overwhelmed to see many people, feeling awkward. “Nice to meet you guys but I, uhm, should probably go.” She said before staring at Yujin.

The younger woman just nodded, “Ah, yeah, sure! Nice meeting you here again, Gaeul.” She said, and smiled at her sincerely.

Gaeul nodded, looking very glad. “Likewise. See you around, Yujin. And you guys.” With that, Gaeul walked away and Yujin just followed her figure until it disappeared, staring into a distance.

Yena nudged her in a teasing way, she knew what was up with that girl and Yujin but did not say anything. Minjoo just shrugged and went to the counter, asking for the copies of her books.

Yujin was having a drink with Ryujin in a bar, having a fun time so far, and she was slightly tipsy already. They were talking about random stuff until Yujin’s phone suddenly rang.

Ryujin took a drag from her cigarette and saw Minjoo’s name flashing on Yujin’s phone. “Don’t take it, move on, remember?” She said, her voice muffled by the loud music coming from the gigantic speakers of the bar.

Yujin laughed at her, shaking her head. “It’s alright. Just a call.” She answered back and took her phone from the counter.

Ryujin shrugged, “It’s still a step, not taking her phone calls but whatever.” She said, and took another drag, puffing out the smoke from her nostrils and choked because of that trick she did — she was a coughing mess.

“Hi,” Yujin chirped. “What do you need?”

Minjoo’s booming voice immediately reached her despite the loud music around, “I need your help. I wanted to set up this new vanity table of mine but I couldn’t just quite… get a hand on it. I know you build things quicker than me.” She said, and from her house, she was standing in front of the messed up parts of the vanity — looking like she was in defeat.

Yujin giggled because of that, “Alright. I’ll be right there. Wait up.” She answered, and Minjoo just hummed before dropping the call.

Ryujin, who was listening throughout, just gave her a look. Yujin took another shot and stood up from her seat, glancing at her friend. “She needs help.” She said sheepishly.

The older woman just shook her head, heaving out a smoke as she did so. “You guys should really stop depending on each other.” She whispered but Yujin ignored her, walking past her, but before that; she gave Ryujin a pat on the shoulders.

Once Yujin went inside Minjoo’s house, she was greeted by Minjoo’s face that was scrunched up in annoyance as she glared at the vanity set that she couldn’t just build.

That made Yujin chuckle, shaking her head. “Seriously? It’s super easy to set this up, god damn.” She guffawed, and walked closer to Minjoo.

The older woman just made a face and handed her the instruction paper. “You do it then, superwoman,” She said, and grimaced when she smelled alcohol from Yujin then sat down on the sofa comfortably, poured herself a wine then watched.

Yujin snorted, crouching down to check the parts, then started to read the paper. “This should be easy. I’ve built our old one before.”

Thirty minutes later, Yujin wasn’t able to comprehend the instructions and she couldn’t just… build it somehow. It was so complex that her patience was lost. “ing god damn vanity,” She yelled, frustrated and sat on the carpeted floor, sweating and annoyed.

Minjoo, who was watching from the couch, chuckled down all of the wine left from her glass. “Told ya’, that is too complex. I’ll just throw it away and buy another one.”

Yujin sighed heavily, glaring at the vanity set that she couldn’t just set up no matter what. “I have a better idea before you put it in the trash where it belongs,” She said, and Minjoo just let her.

Soon after, Minjoo and Yujin were sitting beside each other on the couch, with no space between them. The older woman was resting her head on Yujin’s shoulders as they drank wine together, staring at the… wooden structure that Yujin had just made.

It looked like a robot. Minjoo even drew a face on it, giggling as she did so earlier.

“How’s work?” Yujin suddenly asked out of the blue, and Minjoo just scowled.

“I don’t even want to talk about it. Let’s just drink. You already took shots earlier, right?” Minjoo said as she leaned away, taking another full bottle of strong wine she fetched earlier from her cellar.

Yujin chuckled deeply, “I like that,” She said while staring into Minjoo’s eyes. They did not even use glasses, just downing the whole bottle alternatively.

The night went deeper and they took another one — it didn’t take long for the both of them to get drunk, three empty strong wine bottles laid on the floor carelessly as the two ex-couple giggled at each other in a daze.

Minjoo reached for Yujin’s face, pinching the latter’s flushed cheeks. Yujin just smiled sleepily at her, holding Minjoo’s waist tighter. “You’re really, really adorable, you know that?” She slurred.

And the both of them laughed, feeling silly. Yujin nodded slowly, loving how Minjoo was close to her. It had been quite a while since they were intimate. They never held each other like this after they had a huge fight that made them finally decide that it was for the better to get a divorce.

“I missed you,” Yujin suddenly whispered, and Minjoo giggled, leaning in closer, their breaths mingling — feeling each other’s warmth.

Minjoo pressed a kiss on Yujin’s cheek, “I missed you too.” the older woman mumbled drunkenly, in a daze but her unfocused gaze remained on Yujin.

They stared at each other and tension started to rise up, the temperature in the living room started to become hotter. Like magnets, somehow, Minjoo and Yujin started to lean towards each other.

There was hesitance but the alcohol boosted their desire and confidence, they had been longing for this. Both of them knew that.

Yujin was still madly in love with Minjoo, her feelings did not change that was why she stuck around the woman. Minjoo was, too, but she wasn’t ready to admit that sober.

Minjoo stared at Yujin’s eyes that were sparkling, feeling enticed, and her heart was beating loudly in her chest. All she could think of was Yujin, Yujin, and Yujin.

And so, not in her right mind — she thought, ‘em all, come what may. She would never think of it sober, not when it involved Yujin but now, it was different. Way different.

Minjoo pressed her lips against Yujin for a few seconds, firm. Just a kiss. And then leaned away — Yujin’s breath hitched, loving the feeling again. This time, Yujin was the one who slowly leaned to press a loving kiss on Minjoo’s lips; as if they were taking their sweet, sweet time familiarizing each other again after a long time of not being able to hold each other like this.

Minjoo closed her eyes, and her lower lip once Yujin pulled away, silently scooting closer. Yujin just held her tighter. Minjoo coiled her arms around Yujin’s nape, and leaned in again for a kiss. This time, the kiss was eager and passionate, sloppy and fast.

Yujin kissed back with the same intensity, pouring her heart’s out. She bit Minjoo’s lower lip, and when the latter whimpered, Yujin took it as a chance to shove her tongue inside.

Minjoo moaned at the sensation, and pulled Yujin closer until she was laying down on the couch, with Yujin hovering above her.

The younger woman pulled away from the kiss, and instead, planted a kiss on her forehead, nose, eyelid, cheeks, neck, and before kissing her on the lips again. And Minjoo felt so loved again, as if she was on the very top of the world again.

“I love you, Minjoo.” Yujin whispered against Minjoo’s lips.

Minjoo grinned, feeling her heart flip. “I love you too.” She whispered back, lovingly as she felt Yujin’s warm hands crawling on her skin, her lips ghosting over her neck.

///

Minjoo was the first one to wake up, even though she slept late — her body would instantly wake up once the sun rose up from the horizon. And so, she was slightly surprised that she woke up and the ceiling of her living room greeted her instead of her own bedroom. It confused her, especially the warmth enveloping her.

The feeling was nice but…

When Minjoo glanced at her side, she was surprised to see Yujin’s sleeping face. She froze and tried to ease the pounding of her head, just what happened last night.

Their situation gave her the way though. They were wearing nothing underneath the thick blanket but their undergarments, their clothes scattered all over the floor with the empty bottles of wine.

Minjoo shut her eyes tight, biting her lower lip. “Oh god, no…” She mumbled under her breath before trying to stand up but she had a hard time because Yujin’s hold around her waist was so tight. This was bad. Very, very bad.

Both of them were too drunk last night and this happened. Oh no.

Yujin stirred awake because of the movements, grunting sleepily but her expression looked so peaceful. Her long raven hair was sprawled all over the pillow and messy but she looked… so gorgeous as ever. Her defined collarbones were showing, the moles scattered all over her chest and neck as if it was a constellation — she saw some few bite marks that Minjoo was so sure she made. Minjoo immediately looked away, she was used to this sight before but this was wrong now.

Minjoo tried to sit up, sighing heavily. Yujin finally woke up too, dragging herself up too then pressed a kiss on Minjoo’s bare shoulders. The latter shivered, this wasn’t right. No.

“Good morning,” Yujin whispered in a husky voice, pressing another kiss on the side of her neck that had also kiss marks and moved to press a kiss on Minjoo’s cheeks too but Minjoo was not responsive, staring ahead.

Yujin gently cradled Minjoo’s chin and tried to turn her head towards her so she could kiss her on the lips but before their lips could even meet, Minjoo turned away, rejecting Yujin’s advances.

It surprised Yujin a bit, “What’s wrong?” She asked softly.

Minjoo looked at her, eyes bloodshot and angry. She shook her head in fury. “This… is wrong. This shouldn’t have happened, Yujin.” She mumbled in a blank tone.

That broke Yujin’s heart a little. Her fists clenched under the sheets. But she put up a positive smile, hope glistening in her heart. “We both wanted it.” She whispered and it was a fact anyway. “Your actions last night were clear.”

Minjoo started to shake her head again and instantly, Yujin’s smile faded completely. “No, no. We were both drunk, and I just got caught in the heat of the moment. This shouldn’t have happened. We can’t, Yujin. We’re not the same as before. We can’t do stuff like this!” Minjoo exclaimed, her eyes frantic.

Yujin bit her lower lip so hard that it almost drew blood. “What do you mean?” Her heart was crushed upon hearing those words from Minjoo. Minjoo clearly wanted it. Minjoo made sure to assure Yujin last night that she still loved her the same, drunkenly slurred her sweet words on her ear but… hearing all of these words from sober Minjoo hurt, as if she was stabbed repeatedly by a knife in her heart.

“You’re an idiot for not stopping it, Yujin.” Minjoo said, and immediately pressed her lips together but she was too late to realize that she chose the wrong words to say.

Yujin was struck, looking at her in disbelief. Minjoo gulped, wiping her face with her hand. “Yuj—”

“I’m an idiot, huh?” Yujin’s voice was deep and dangerous, eyes bloodshot, tears forming in them.

Minjoo’s heart broke into two. “Yujin, no. I didn’t—”

“Of course, I’m an idiot. Such an idiot for you too.” Yujin mumbled, and slipped away from the blanket then started to get her clothes that were thrown on the floor carelessly last night, dressing herself up immediately.

Minjoo felt so cold without Yujin beside her anymore, all she could do was to watch Yujin — finally feeling the distance. Oh . She ed up for real this time. She screwed her eyes shut, pressing her fingers against her temple, frustrated.

Yujin straightened up her clothes, still murmuring to herself, “Why did I even hope? Ah, because I’m such a fool.” She did not even spare Minjoo a glance as she walked away, closing Minjoo’s door very loudly to say that she was very angry.

The moment Yujin left Minjoo behind in the living room, a blanket loosely wrapped around her, eyes pooled with once anger that turned into guilt — Yujin made a decision. It was really time to move on from that cruel woman.

“Mygod, you’re such a mess,” Sakura said once she entered Minjoo’s office. “Still a huge mess.” She added with a click of tongue before walking towards Minjoo who looked very haggard and stressed.

Minjoo could only smirk bitterly. Of course. She was a mess, but she wouldn’t admit that outloud.

It had been almost a month since that incident. And everything just went downhill for Minjoo, again. The next day, when Minjoo got home — she was about to confront Yujin and plead for them to talk about it but alas, when she walked in the guestroom… it was plain empty. Yujin’s things were gone and all that was left were a few paintings that Yujin had dedicated to Minjoo, and some few buckets of paint, nothing else.

She tried to reach out to the woman but nothing, Yujin had never accepted her call and did not read her messages. She did not know where the hell Yujin went. Yuri, Yena, and Ryujin did not have a single clue at all, either.

The three advised Minjoo to stop looking for Yujin though, they knew that she would be fine, and was just getting herself some space after what happened. Her friends did not say anything and just comforted her.

Minjoo was devastated and desperate to find Yujin because that girl was never not around her that she was seriously going insane but her pride still overcame and instead, she engrossed herself with work to prevent her mind from drifting to Yujin.

Guilt was eating her up but still couldn’t bring herself to do anything. She was confident that Yujin would be back, the last time they were separated for so long was when they were still in highschool — Yujin had a vacation with her family for two weeks, and that was the longest ever. However, this was now beaten by this recent record.

It didn’t help that something happened in her work. There was an issue recently that was tainting the name of her company — Leeseo’s new logo for her new album that Minjoo herself created caused sparks among the teenage fans of the girl.

Saying that it was ugly and there was a part of the logo that looked like a … entering a ? Or whatever gay that they were saying. Most people were hating it and making a fuss over it.

However, they couldn’t change things anymore. Because it was already released and Leeseo’s agency didn’t really care much but because of this, she was tasked to do some other more things for the album as compensation.

Leeseo wasn’t having it either, ing around her whenever they had a meeting.

Minjoo was so stressed.

“Thank you for the compliment,” Minjoo murmured and Sakura handed her some reports. The older woman looked sad for her though, however, she didn’t need that pitiful look from people.

Sakura leaned against her desk, “You really need to loosen up and , bestie,” She said, and Minjoo did not even spare her a glance. “You should date or go to a yoga class or something.”

Minjoo finally looked up at her, “Yoga class.” She repeated with a dead tone. “Why would I need to go to a yoga class? No thanks, I’m perfectly healthy and fit. I run every day before I go to work.” She replied then started to sign some works.

Sakura shrugged, “Just a suggestion. It’s relaxing. Just tell me if you want, I know someone. I’ll sign you up.” She said, and walked away, reaching for the door.

“Yeah, sure.” Minjoo could only answer and once Sakura got out of the office, she heaved out a sigh. She knew that Sakura was trying to help her be less stressed, she knew what was happening in her little life.

But then, her phone rang. She cursed at the caller, annoyed but when she picked it up and saw the caller’s ID, her heart skipped a beat. It was Yujin.

She immediately accepted the call, and greeted breathlessly with a nervous heart, “Hello.”

“Hi,” Minjoo missed that god damn voice but she did not let her feelings show much. “I’m sorry I just called you back today, Minjoo.” Yujin apologized.

Minjoo couldn’t care less. “It’s alright, it’s okay. I-I, it was my mistake. That night. I’m really sorry, Yujin.” She fumbled on her words.

Yujin chuckled softly from the other line, “It already happened, and we can just forget it. I understand why you reacted like that. Let’s move past that.” She replied and somehow, Minjoo’s excited smile faded.

She swallowed her sudden disappointment and asked without even thinking twice, “So where the hell are you? Are you alright? For almost a month, we did not hear a word from you.”

Yujin hummed, “Ah yeah, about that. I’ll tell you everything. Say, are you free tomorrow?” asked the younger woman instead.

Minjoo was busy tomorrow but she could definitely tweak her schedule a bit just to meet Yujin, “No, no. Not really. Just tell me what time.”

Yujin answered with, “Is… two in the afternoon good for you? I have a job now with a complicated schedule and yeah, my only free time tomorrow will be that time.”

Gasping, Minjoo was glad to hear that. “You have a job now? That’s great and yes, two in the afternoon is fine.” She said as she typed on her laptop, telling her secretary to clear up some schedule and all.

Yujin gave out a weak chuckle. “I do. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow. And alright, great, two in the afternoon.” the younger woman then paused before continuing. “I’m currently in Suwon, right now. Meet me at this restaurant called Leaf Eat Two Me.”

Minjoo wanted to ask why the hell she was in Suwon but she did not say, and reserved the questions for tomorrow. She would bombard her with questions tomorrow instead.

“Alright. Noted. I’ll meet you there.” Minjoo said as she sent the message to her secretary.

Humming, Yujin just said, “Thank you. See you tomorrow. Have a safe trip, Minjoo.” And before Minjoo could even say anything, the call dropped, leaving Minjoo’s mouth open.

She slowly placed the phone down and sighed, rubbing her temples, she felt a weight getting lifted from her shoulders after Yujin’s call. She was safe and sound, she also sounded that she was doing well; she had a job now too.

“I miss you,” Minjoo unconsciously murmured under her breath, her heart aching but she paid no mind to it and continued to do her work, also giving Yuri a text about Yujin reaching out to her. Yuri was relieved.

For sure, Yujin did not really say anything to Yuri or Yena. Minjoo knew that Ryujin knew everything but played dumb for Yujin. And honestly, she couldn’t blame Ryujin for it. She felt a little bit betrayed, however, it was known that Ryujin wasn’t really… fond of their ‘weird’ relationship after she and Yujin got separated.

That night, Minjoo fell asleep quite fast, not wondering anymore where Yujin could be — if she was staying in a warm house and all of that stuff.

///

Minjoo fumbled on her phone as she made her way towards the restaurant that Yujin told her. Some clients were pestering her over the reschedule so Minjoo was trying to fix it by writing some apology emails and some sort of .

Yujin told her that she was sitting at the very far side of the resto, outside so she went there, expertly dodging the frantic waiters while her full attention was on her phone.

When she got outside, in her peripheral vision, she saw Yujin. The latter immediately noticed her too, standing up from her seat to greet her but Minjoo needed to send the emails out as soon as possible.

“Wait, hold on, just let me just send these emails…” Minjoo whispered, draping her blazer on the chair and her Versace bag on top of the table.

Yujin took a deep breath and just nodded, sitting down, and waited for Minjoo and as she did that — she browsed through the menu. Not three minutes later, she was fully done and placed her phone away, smiling at Yujin and checking her out.

She looked perfectly healthy, glowing, even. She was wearing her usual hoodie, jeans, and sneakers get-up but she rocked it today. Maybe because it had been a while since Minjoo saw her.

“Hey, you look great.” Minjoo greeted, and took her Rayban shades away to take a much better look of Yujin.

The younger woman smiled back at her, “Hi. Well you look…” Yujin’s voice trailed off, worriness were obvious in her eyes.

Minjoo chuckled weakly, oh, she knew that she didn’t look particularly well. Everyone knew that. She had been busy and stressed about a lot of things. “I know.” She answered as a matter of factly, rolling her eyes playfully even.

Yujin didn’t look amused though, “Have you been well?” She asked instead.

Minjoo shrugged her shoulders, glancing at Yujin. “I’m doing… alright, I guess. I should be the one who’s asking you that. Are you well? Where are you living? Why did you leave out of the blue without even telling me?” She started to rapidly fire her questions.

Yujin looked like she was expecting those from Minjoo and gave her a sad smile. “I’m more than alright. You should take care of your health, Minjoo. Don’t overwork.” She answered instead, completely ignoring the other questions, and called for a waiter. After that, she glanced at Minjoo. “What do you want? Feel free to order anything.”

Minjoo nodded, glancing at the menu, and was surprised to see the dishes offered by this restaurant. This place is… they only offer vegan food. She glanced at Yujin who was greeting the friendly waiter.

“Uhm, I’ll order Caesar salad, and Sesame Soba Noodles. And oh, cucumber juice too, please.” Yujin ordered softly and Minjoo was dumbstruck, she never expected from Yujin — Ahn Yujin, the junk food enthusiast, would order extremely healthy food willingly.

Minjoo was still trying to comprehend what was happening but then, Yujin and the waiter looked at her, waiting for her order. “How about you, Minjoo? What’s your pick?”

went agape a little, feeling a little bit foolish. She frantically looked at the menu and gulped, “Uhh, I’m not really hungry… Can I get coffee instead? Do you guys have hot coffee?” She asked, her shock really shrunk her appetite.

The waiter nodded and smiled at her weirdly, “Oh, we do. Hot coffee for you then, miss?”

Minjoo just nodded and the waiter immediately went away with a note full of their orders. Silence enveloped them for a moment until Minjoo cleared , easing the awkwardness.

“Vegan food, really? You’re finally starting to live healthier?” Minjoo asked in a joking manner.

Yujin her lower lip, nodded slowly. “Yeah. Gaeul isn’t a fan of junk food and on top of that, she’s a dietitian so I’m starting to get used to it.” She answered, tapping her fingers on the table.

Minjoo nodded, the words still not sinking into her brain. “That’s great— wait, Gaeul? Familiar.” She murmured, and stared at Yujin, trying to look for some answers.

The younger woman noticed the look, and smiled, finally revealing something. “She’s the one who you guys saw at the bookstore. Remember?” Minjoo nodded at that and so Yujin continued, a little bit hesitant. “I have something to confess. Three months after our separation, I kind of met her and spent a night with her. We reunited that day in the bookstore and we kind of kept in touch ever since.”

Minjoo’s head started to get lighter, feeling a little bit dizzy. Her sight blurred a bit, trying to process the information. Ignoring the sudden difficulty of breathing, Minjoo managed to put up a smile. “Wow, that’s… that’s alright? I mean, yeah, good.” She stammered but then, starting to connect the dots on her own. Her eyes widened. “Wait. You…”

And without even Minjoo saying it, Yujin got what she was trying to imply. “I’m currently living with her here in Suwon. I was actually staying in motels around for a few days until I mentioned to Gaeul about my current situation. She asked me to live with her and I agreed.” Yujin started to explain and Minjoo could only sit still and listen intently, looking at her in disbelief.

Yujin paused, trying to see something in Minjoo’s eyes before saying. “And we’re currently dating now, me and Gaeul.” She dropped the bomb, and Minjoo’s heart dropped too.

The older woman was frozen, not really knowing what to say or do. Her jaw dropped. She tried to say something but was unable to do so, too surprised at the sudden news. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, all she could do was to gape.

Yujin took a deep breath and continued to talk, “You’re right. We can’t be no more. The incident almost a month ago was an eye-opener to me and so, I’m trying to be better now. I want to move on. We should move on. It’s not good if we stick quite close to each other.” She said, and clasped her fingers together.

After a moment, Minjoo could feel anger rising up on top of her head, black ink spreading across her chest. It was awful, the feeling.

“And you moved on quite fast, I see.” Minjoo said, and her voice was plain and there was no trace of emotion.

Yujin felt the bitterness, her gaze softened. “I like Gaeul. Ever since we met. There’s something in her. I don’t know. I just feel happy with her right now. She’s a sweet girl, Minjoo.” She said, and her tone was gentle as she said things about her new girl that made Minjoo want to puke.

“And I genuinely want things to work with her. I like her a lot. I can’t afford to hurt her.”

Minjoo was really in disbelief, she let out a bitter laugh, and gave the woman across her a pointed look. “Oh, really?” Her voice was laced by venom. “Well, congrats to the both of you. You guys will definitely be a great couple.”

Yujin sighed heavily because of that, Minjoo really looked furious when she should be happy. This was what she wanted but then, why was she acting like this? Yujin tried to remain calm as she did not want to anger the older woman more.

“Yeah.” Yujin breathlessly said, and straightened up her back. “And I… I called the lawyers, they said we can officially sign the divorce papers very soon and finally put an end to it.” She added but it was also a bad move.

Minjoo scoffed, shaking her head. Oh, she wasn’t really expecting this. She wasn’t really expecting this at all. “So that’s why you called me, huh? To tell me that you’re currently in a happy, healthy relationship with someone and wanted me to sign the divorce papers soon.” She murmured, fists clenching on her lap.

Yujin bit her lower lip, nodding. “Yup,” She honestly answered and Minjoo let out an angry snort but said nothing, just glaring at Yujin. “I want to sign the papers as soon as possible so we’re officially not married anymore and all of that stuff because I don’t want her to look like she’s dating someone who’s married. She wanted me to introduce to her parents but I don’t have the guts to face them until we’re officially divorced.” She explained, rubbing her hands on top of the table and that was when Minjoo noticed that she wasn’t wearing the ring Minjoo gave her before.

Both of them had two rings, when they got married and the ring that Minjoo gave her when they graduated in college — a promise ring. Minjoo had that too, and still wore it. When they separated, it was natural that both of them take off those wedding rings but they had a silent mutual agreement to continue wearing the promise ring.

However, this time, Yujin was not wearing it. It was a sign of respect for Gaeul, and to tell that she was serious about making things work with the woman that she was willing to leave everything behind.

And that made Minjoo snap, she couldn’t handle anymore. She was feeling a lot of emotions all at once. Trembling in anger, she stood up and gathered her things in a haste.

“Minjoo… please sit down and let’s talk.” Yujin tried to beg but Minjoo kept shaking her head, and once she had finally gathered her things, she looked at Yujin with betrayed, bloodshot eyes.

“Hope you guys will have a ing strong relationship. Be ing happy with her. And I will definitely sign the divorce papers as soon as possible. That’s what you want right? Then I will ing do it in a heartbeat.” Minjoo growled, and was ready to march away but the waiter was also going in her direction to serve their order.

He immediately dodged the tray full of food to avoid it from falling on the floor but Minjoo collided with him. That made Minjoo even more angry.

“Ah you too and this mothering restaurant that only serve leaves and vegan tasteless !” Minjoo cursed, and finally walked away, leaving Yujin there with heavy shoulders.

Minjoo marched down on the parking lot and entered her car, slamming the car door shut with a loud noise. But before she could even insert the key and turn on the engine, she started to break down.

The older woman cried, and cried. Yujin did not even chase her. She did not make an effort at all! Reality was slapping Minjoo. She was slowly losing Yujin or she had just lost Yujin.

But after a few petty sobs, she stopped and angrily wiped her tear stained face, ruining her make-up but she couldn’t care less. “This is what you want, Minjoo. No more. Why are you crying over that? Huh bull.” She whispered to herself, and after more encouraging words, she started to drive home.

When she got home, she tried to have a normal day but she couldn’t. She just wanted to breakdown and she just felt so lonely as . Minjoo couldn’t bring herself to call Yuri and Yena to come over and comfort her but she knew that the two were too busy with the wedding preparations. And Sakura was most likely busy with work too.

And so, when the loneliness took over, she called Ryujin — and surprisingly, the latter immediately replied to her, telling her that she was on her way, and she got a booze with her.

“Oh god, you look like a .” That was the first thing Ryujin said when Minjoo opened the door for her.

Minjoo gave her a dead look, and opened the door wider. “Thanks.” She murmured in a hoarse voice. “Come in.”

Ryujin gave her a look of pity first before entering, holding an alcoholic drink that was for sure had more than 30% alcohol percentage. Minjoo never really drinks strong drinks like that and would only willingly down wine however, this time, she had been craving something that would freaking burn and aching chest — burn the pain in her heart away.

In no time, Minjoo was sitting with Ryujin on the couch, the television was on and playing Inside Out. Three shots in, Minjoo was already sobbing and Ryujin could only silently smoke beside her.

“Crying over that silly cartoon, really?” Ryujin decided to speak.

Minjoo sniffled, taking another shot of Hennessy and nodded her head, “Yeah. It’s Yujin’s favorite and she always cries whenever she watches it.” She answered, already getting slurred.

Ryujin turned to her, taking out the lit stick between her lips. “And now you’re crying over it too.” She whispered, and then took out her pack of cigarettes, stretching her hand to offer a stick to Minjoo.

Sniffling, Minjoo let out another sob but shakily took one anyway. Ryujin took out her lighter and helped her light the end of the cigarette. Minjoo wiped her tear-stained cheeks before taking a drag. She didn’t normally smoke but she suddenly wanted to. Everything was just getting too much for her.

Minjoo’s living room reeked of alcohol and cigarette smoke already but no one complained. After a few moments of silence, Ryujin spoke, eyes glued onto the television even though she wasn’t fond of cartoons. “How about finding another person to date? Move on, like Yujin.” She suggested out of the blue.

There was a pregnant silence again, just only the character Joy’s blabbering from the television could be heard. Minjoo took a long drag from her cigarette, almost finishing the stick then heaved out the smoke before speaking, there was still some trail of smoke leaking from as she spoke with a blank tone.

“Yeah. Don’t want to look foolish, anyway,” Minjoo said and Ryujin snorted silently beside her, playing with the lighter. The former then added, “I shouldn’t weep like this over her, I should be very happy. So happy that I should throw a feast because finally, finally! Ahn Yujin is starting to change for the better. She’s getting her character development.” Her tone was bitter and Ryujin caught that.

Ryujin looked at her friend sadly, took her stick from and extinguished the fire by pressing it into the ashtray and threw the of the cigarette there. “Even though she’s getting that character development because of a girl that isn’t you?” She asked, seriousness lingering around her tone.

Minjoo snorted bitterly, lazily staring at her cigarette placed between her index and middle fingers. She did not say anything, and Ryujin took the hint. “It’s okay to cry over it, you know. I’m one of the witnesses of how you loved Yujin so much and it’s really such a bitter fate that… yeah. I’m not particularly fond of your friendship with her after the separation but it’s quite saddening that everything turned out like this.”

Ryujin was more in Yujin’s side, she was closer to the latter however, this time — she was extremely sad for Minjoo. Ryujin did not like how Minjoo treated her friend before but… seeing the woman absolutely devastated like this made her cold heart ache.

Minjoo shook her head. “It’s quite fine. This is what I wanted. For her to grow because I’m getting sick of her lazy and laid back attitude, always depending on me. Even if she’s growing better with another person that isn’t me.” She murmured, and bit her lower lip. This was one of the main reasons why Minjoo decided that divorce was for the better.

Everyday, they fought over a lot of issues, including what was mentioned. As much as Minjoo loved Yujin, and Yujin loved Minjoo — it wasn’t working. And it wouldn’t work if Yujin won’t change for the better.

Ryujin didn’t really know what to say and just patted Minjoo’s back. “I’m really sad for you but happy for Yujin because I saw that the latter is really improving when she’s with Gaeul.” She said, and sighed heavily. What a fate indeed.

Minjoo could only chuckle bitterly, and shake her head in dismay. She reached for her phone, and dialed someone. She glanced at Ryujin first, “Unfortunate life, huh?” She said before greeting the one who she was calling, “Uhm, hey Sakura, I know it’s late — stop shouting, my head is pounding. Ah, yeah, I want you to sign me up to that yoga class. I want to start in two days. Bye.” She hung up.

Ryujin just took another cigarette from her pack and placed it between her lips, lighting the end as she stared at Minjoo. Minjoo stared back, a little bit in a daze but there was a flame of determination in her eyes.

“If she’s also getting better then I’ll also live better too.” Minjoo haughtily said then grabbed the whole bottle of Hennessy. “But tonight? I want to drink until I black out.” She added, and downed the whole bottle.

Ryujin barked out a laugh, “That’s the spirit, Kim!”

“Yeah, blind date? Sure. Set me up. I don’t mind. The sooner, the better.” Minjoo answered as she changed into a more proper attire for yoga inside the locker. She was having a call with Yuri who was suddenly suggesting to set Minjoo up for a blind date.

After what happened days ago, Minjoo immediately told Yuri and Yena. Of course, the two were having mixed emotions but they tried their best to cheer Minjoo up but the latter just shrugged at them, laughing and waving them off. Minjoo knew that the couple was just helping her distract and fully move on, and she was grateful.

Plus, blind date didn’t sound bad, to be honest. Just what Minjoo needed.

After the talk, Minjoo went to the yoga class and started the session. She wasn’t alone and there were eight of them, minus the instructor.

Throughout the session, Minjoo felt relaxed but she couldn’t shake off the feeling of someone looking from behind her. And once the instructor said that they were done for today, and Minjoo was about to wrap things up — she heard a femine voice from behind her.

“Hello.”

Minjoo turned, a little bit confused and still panting from the session. Behind her, there was a slim woman with a bob-cut, doe eyes, and button nose staring at her in an adoring manner which creeped Minjoo a bit. It did not help that the woman was still stretching her limbs out in a very… uncomfortable position.

At first, Minjoo thought she wasn’t talking to her so she did not greet back, glancing around her.

“I said, hello,” The woman repeated, directly looking at Minjoo with a sleazy smile.

Minjoo blinked, nodding. “Hi.” She finally greeted back and stood up. She didn’t really have the time and energy to socialize.

“New here? I’ve never seen you in the past sessions.” The woman continued the conversation, finally sitting up properly, doing an indian sit while staring up at her like a puppy.

Minjoo was just tired and all, so she lazily smiled at her. She couldn’t just face stupidity. “Well, maybe? You never saw me in the past sessions. I’m not a ghost that has been secretly attending and finally decided to show myself now.” She answered with a plain tone.

The woman looked struck as she sat down on the yoga mat before breaking into a sheepish grin, “You’re funny and feisty. I like you.” She whispered.

Minjoo shrugged and finally went towards the lockers to get her things. The woman immediately sprang up into her feet and followed her, coincidentally, their lockers were just one locker apart.

As Minjoo took her jacket up and wore it, she could feel the gaze from the side. She tried her best to ignore it.

“I’m Chaewon. What’s your name?” The woman said, and really, Minjoo didn’t really care.

“Minjoo,” She answered, speeding up a bit.

Chaewon smiled, also wearing her shoes in a haste. “Beautiful name. Fits you well.” She complimented but Minjoo did not react much, just smiling awkwardly as she took her bag. “Are you single?”

Minjoo laughed in disbelief, “Oh no, you’re not doing this right now.” She replied, and grabbed her other stuff.

Chaewon had a hard time putting on her shoes but she answered immediately anyway, “Yeah,” Her voice was breathless. “You’re just pretty and all. I just want to know if I have a chance.”

Shaking her head, Minjoo just shrugged and did not say anything before walking out of the place. Chaewon squeaked and followed after her like a puppy, almost stumbling forward. She caught up with Minjoo once they were out.

“Hey, I’m genuinely curious and genuinely interested in you.” Chaewon mumbled, and Minjoo just shook her head. Chaewon pouted, “You don’t want to do anything with me?”

Minjoo hummed, “Yeah, no. Very much.”

That kind of offended Chaewon but she smiled anyway, “How come?”

Minjoo glanced at her with a bored look. “Because you look like someone who works in a ty corporation office, goes to a bar every night because you’re less, and probably just attends these yoga sessions to check women out.” She said in one breath that took Chaewon back.

Minjoo felt a little bit guilty after that but she wasn’t just in the mood, really. Chaewon just blurted out softly, “Oh wow. Damn so harsh.”

Sighing, Minjoo just shook her head. “Sorry.” And walked away in a haste, leaving Chaewon standing there, watching her figure disappear from her spot with an amused smile etched on her face.

Minjoo almost got late for her blind date because of Leeseo. The latter was ing again earlier in the meeting that it took long, Minjoo’s patience was wearing off but then, she always reminded herself to be professional and that she was handling a literal emo kid.

She had no single idea who she was going to meet, she only knew that she was Yuri’s acquaintance from her work.

Once she entered the place, she looked and walked around. Unlike her, her date knew her face and name so she would be able to spot her. She could only hope for the best.

Minjoo walked and suddenly, a mono-lid woman stood up from her seat and waved at her. Hmm, she’s pretty. “Minjoo-ssi?”

“Hello, that would be me.” Minjoo said, and they shook hands.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Hwang Yeji. Please, have a seat, Minjoo-ssi.”

Yeji was charming, alright, but there was something in her that bored Minjoo. They talked about work and work, Minjoo tried to enjoy the date as much as possible because hell, the wine and steak were so expensive.

In the middle of the date, Minjoo saw someone familiar behind oblivious Yeji and choked on her wine. Yeji immediately gave her tissues, and Minjoo wiped quickly. “You good?” the other woman asked, concerned.

Minjoo was still looking behind, “No. My ex is here and she’s just about three tables away.” And suddenly, Yujin turned and their eyes met. “Oh , we had eye-contact.”

Yeji turned around, trying to see but she was clueless what Minjoo’s ex looked like. Minjoo started to panic when she saw Yujin standing up from her seat, then seemingly excused herself and started to walk towards their table.

“Oh my god, and she’s walking towards here,” Minjoo grumbled under her breath, trying to compose herself.

Before Yeji could even say something, a tall figure halted in front of their table, lazily smiling at them. “Hello, Minjoo.” Yujin greeted and Minjoo tried to remain cool and composed.

“Oh hey, Yujin. You’re here.” Minjoo greeted and Yujin placed her hands inside her pocket, tilting her head a bit as she looked down at her, amused.

Yujin hummed, “Hmm. I met a client here.” She said, and then glanced at Yeji for a second. “On a date?”

Minjoo nodded and laughed awkwardly, “Yeah. Uhm, Yujin meet Yeshin, my date.” She introduced and Yeji gave her a look.

“It’s Yeji,” Yeji corrected but Minjoo was too busy staring at Yujin. The latter smiled at Minnoo before turning to her, patting her shoulders.

“Nice to meet you.” Yujin smoothly said, and turned to Minjoo, “How’s the date so far?”

Minjoo chuckled, her fingers fidgeting. “Oh, Yejin is fantastic!”

Yeji gave her an unamused look. “Yeji.” She corrected it again.

Yujin gave them a tight smile, “Good to hear then. I won’t disturb you guys for too long. See you guys around.” After giving Minjoo a glance, Yujin walked away, making the atmosphere between Yeji and Minjoo tense.

The younger woman could only sigh, and drink on her wine. After that, they ate and walked out of the restaurant together after paying their bills.

“So… I had fun!” Minjoo kind of lied through her teeth, “I’ll pick the place next time.”

Yeji didn’t look very happy at what she heard though, awkwardly shifting around. “Uhm. Sorry but… I think we’re not a match.” She truthfully said, and Minjoo was a little bit offended.

“Oh? We aren’t?” Minjoo asked, and added, “Am I not pretty enough?”

Yeji’s eyes widened over that even though she knew that Minjoo was most likely joking. “No, no. You’re beautiful but it’s just,” She paused and took a deep breath. “You look like you’re still hung up with your ex and I’m here to find a serious partner. I think you’re not ready for that.”

Minjoo was stunned, and didn’t really know what to say so she could only nod. “Alright. But thanks for meeting me though, Yebi.” She answered.

Yeji sighed because of that, “Yeji.”

Minjoo was embarrassed, “Whoops, sorry, Yeji.” She said, and then her lower lip, looking around awkwardly. “Uhm, I should go home now.”

Yeji just nodded, “Sure. Have a safe trip home, Minjoo.” She said and gave the woman a charming smile before walking to the opposite way.

The next day, Minjoo jogged around the whole neighborhood and met with Yuri afterwards. They talked about the disaster of a date because of Yujin, and once the Yujin topic came, Yuri kind of slipped — she revealed that she met Yujin just a few days ago with her new girlfriend.

“Ah, so, you met Yujin and what’s her name again?” Minjoo asked as she took a sip from her water, voice monotone.

Yuri, looking like a deer caught under the headlights, turned to her and awkwardly answered. “Yeah, and her name is Gaeul.”

Minjoo nodded, and did not say anything.

Sighing, Yuri walked closer to her friend. “Gaeul is really a sweet woman, Minjoo. She’s kinda fun to be with! Once you come to know her more, you’ll absolutely adore her.” Yuri said with a dreamy tone and that kind of made Minjoo bitter.

“Yeah, sure.” Minjoo answered with a shrug and Yuri just pouted, diverting the topic.

The next day, Minjoo went to work and she felt her scalp burning after she got out of the conference room. Leeseo was there again and was being ty to her, she was really getting on Minjoo’s nerves! She didn’t really know the appeal of the younger woman, she was so confused why she had a lot of supporters when she was just a talentless emo teenage kid. Geez, people these days…

Sakura entered her office and Minjoo started to rant about her day and about her disastrous date yesterday. After that ranting that Sakura’s ears almost fell off, she felt pity towards her friend and offered, “I know someone. I’ll set you up with her. She’s a singer and single, also looking for someone…”

Minjoo’s interest was caught immediately, looking at Sakura with a pointed look. “Who?”

Sakura leaned back against the backrest. “Familiar with the name, ‘Liz’? She’s a rising model and singer. Her real name is Kim Jiwon.” She said, and Minjoo let out a scandalous gasp.

“No way. I’ve listened to some of her songs! And it’s absolute fire. Oh my god, you can set me up on a date with her, really?” Minjoo said, her eyes twinkling and Sakura looked relieved.

The older woman nodded, “Yeah, of course.” Minjoo almost squealed.

Fast forward, days passed and Minjoo was sitting on a rooftop with Jiwon, who was playing guitar and happily singing. At first, Minjoo was charmed, even humming along and bobbing her head up and down as she started to drink wine.

But then, Jiwon started to act weird. Pressing her face on her neck and sniffing her like a dog while she sang and played. That weirded Minjoo off, trying to scoot away and smiled awkwardly.

“I want to write songs about you and your beauty, and the way you smell more pleasant than flowers.” Jiwon said with a creepy smile, and Minjoo wanted to cry. She should be moved but her tone was creepy as hell.

Minjoo laughed awkwardly. She needed to get out of here, “Oh my god,” She faked a gasp, surprise written in her face. Jiwon stopped, looking at Minjoo in a daze. “I know this sounds so stupid but I definitely forgot to turn off the running faucet in my bathroom.” Minjoo said and as she said that, she stood up and grabbed her things in a haste.

Jiwon puckered her lips but did not say anything and just watched Minjoo grab her things, buying the reason a bit. “Oh?” Jiwon’s dismay was evident but Minjoo had no time to be guilty and just gave her an apologetic look. “Maybe next time then? I had a great time.”

Minjoo gave a very eerie and awkward laugh, shaking her head. “Can’t promise. See you around though, Liz!” She immediately bid her goodbye and fled away.

The woman could only let out a breath of relief when she got home, but she was surprised that there was a figure sitting down on the stairs of her porch. She thought it might be some intruder or just a stray so she was alarmed but when the person noticed her, they stood up and called her.

“Minjoo,”

It was a very familiar voice. Yujin.

Minjoo’s tense shoulders relaxed but went tense again upon realizing that it was Yujin. She cleared and brisk walked towards the taller woman who was waiting for her with a small smile on her lips.

“Hey, you did not tell me that you’re going to drop by.” Minjoo said and opened the door with her keys, but Yujin did not say anything. “Have you been waiting for me for too long?”

Yujin shook her head as she pocketed her hands, “Not really.”

They entered the place and Minjoo immediately took some cans of beer from her fridge, placing it on the counter top while Yujin sat on the high chair. Minjoo sat beside her. Silence covered them, they only drank beers in silence.

Minjoo couldn’t help but to wonder though. Could it be that Yujin finally realized that she couldn’t work things with Gaeul and come back to her? Her heart skipped a beat at the thought.

Sensing that Yujin wouldn’t initiate to talk first, Minjoo finally took the hint. “When we met that day, uhm, sorry for the way I acted. I was just surprised and anger possessed me so yeah. Sorry. It was embarrassing.” Minjoo apologized.

Yujin just smiled at her, lightly tapping her fingertips on the cool can of beer, glancing at her. “I understand. Everything is overwhelming and sudden. That’s why I let you be calm first before showing my face again.” She softly murmured.

The corner of Minjoo’s lips tugged upwards, “I know, everything is just escalating too fast and so sudden so your decisions are surprising the hell out me,” She her lower lip, taking a deep breath. “Are you sure about this, Yujin? You know your decisions are out of the whim… and they never really work, right?”

Yujin did not say anything, just taking a sip from her beer, glancing at Minjoo with emotionless eyes. She waited for Minjoo to finish and so, Minjoo continued to say her thoughts.

“I… do think this is a sudden and crazed idea. Uhm, Yujin,” Minjoo whispered, and her fingers started to get clammy. Her heart started to pound. “I had mistakes too, big time. Before. It’s not your fault only. And I… I’m willing to give us a second chance, actually. Just come back.”

When Minjoo said those words, she couldn’t even breathe. Minjoo was a prideful woman but… that pride was non-existent now and she felt like she was begging already even though her sentence was just suggesting. She had realizations. She couldn’t just bring herself to admit it outloud but it was still Yujin her heart yearned for.

No one else. Those dates were really nothing. She still dearly loved her Ahn Yujin.

When Yujin heard that, she could only sigh. She stared at Minjoo who was playing with her fingers, and looked very nervous at her seat. Yujin could only press her lips together tightly before answering, “Sorry, Minjoo. But my mind is already made up. I will work with Gaeul and stick with my promise.” She honestly answered, a little bit guilty.

Minjoo’s heart felt like it was torn apart, she was seeing red. “Then why did you go here?” She seethed.

Yujin looked down at her own beer, “I’m actually here to retrieve my own things and… to bid my proper goodbye and express my utmost gratitude—”

Minjoo stood up from her chair, and the chair made a loud screeching noise as it slid across the floor. She glared at Yujin, “Get the hell out of my house!” She roared, her fists trembling.

Yujin looked like she wanted to say something as she stared at Minjoo, hard. Her gaze pinning her down but she did not say anything and just left like that.

Minjoo called Ryujin to accompany her again, and the latter gladly complied with her request, going to Minjoo’s house with a pack of mint cigarettes and a whole bottle of hard liquor.

They had another heart to heart talk. Minjoo was really a mess again after what happened and Ryujin could only stay there, drink with her and listen to comfort her.

“Let’s go to a club tomorrow and loosen up. My friend is having a party there.” Ryujin offered and of course, Minjoo accepted the offer as she downed the whole bottle, her heart continuously aching.

After another stressful day at work, Minjoo happily went to the club with Ryujin, with Yena and Yuri too. She knew she deserved a drink. All she wanted was to party and drink all night, if she was lucky enough then meet someone nice.

So far, Minjoo was having a blast as she drank her martini. But much to her surprise, a familiar person suddenly appeared and had a fist bump with Ryujin.

“It’s been a while, Ryu,”

Ryujin winked at her, downing her drink. “Yeah, it’s been a while, Chaewon.”

After what happened the first day they met at that yoga session, Chaewon did not speak to her anymore or pestered her whenever Minjoo would attend the session. The longing stares were noticeable though.

Chaewon smiled at them and her eyes widened in surprise to see Minjoo. “Oh, hey,” She greeted Minjoo with a smile, not awkward but shy. Minjoo nodded to acknowledge her and also returned the smile. It was a little bit weird to see Chaewon wearing something casual than her yoga fit but she looked really good.

Ryujin asked if they knew each other and that was when Chaewon told her that Minjoo was attending the same yoga class with her. Ryujin could only whistle in response before walking away, partying the night away. Minjoo did not mind it and just focused on her drink, she purposely ignored looking from her left because she could see Yuri and Yena dancing and grinding into each other. What a disgusting sight for her.

Chaewon, though, stayed — scooting closer to her as she held her glass close. “What a small world,” She murmured and Minjoo agreed, taking another shot and grimaced at the bitter taste, in an instant; her vision suddenly blurred that she stumbled on her feet, and almost collided with a stranger beside her.

Fortunately, Chaewon caught her and supported her weight, “Are you okay?” She asked, her tone lingered with concern.

Minjoo chuckled, she was already tipsy and the alcohol she drank was so strong that it really blurred her sight. “Just… dizzy.” She truthfully answered.

Chaewon sighed lightly, “Do you want to get out of here?” Minjoo gave her a look and the bob haired woman immediately got the signal, “Ah, no. Not like that. To get some fresh air, I mean. There’s a rooftop and I know the way there.” She clarified and Minjoo was relieved.

Minjoo just nodded and Chaewon smiled. Soon after, Minjoo couldn’t even remember how she reached the rooftop but it was nice, the air was chilly and there weren’t any souls in sight besides them. It was less noisy, the muffled music from inside the club could only be heard.

Minjoo leaned against the railing and inhaled as fresh air filled her lungs, and her shoulders felt lighter.

“Feeling any better?” Chaewon’s voice came from beside her. Minjoo turned and saw the woman leaning against the railing but there was a respectful gap between them.

Chaewon was wearing black crop-top and flannel, faded jeans, and sneakers. She was also smoking while looking at Minjoo with a worried gaze. She looked cool, and attractive.

Minjoo could only snicker in silence.

“Yep, definitely. Thank you for bringing me here.” Minjoo said, her voice wasn’t slurred anymore as the effects of the alcohol was wearing off.

Chaewon gave her a toothy smile, “How are you? Never really seen you besides the yoga class and you’re too quiet and serious.” She asked, then took a drag from her cigarette.

Minjoo snorted, resting her chin on the cold metal railing as she eyed the city lights, a little bit mesmerized by the view. “Life’s ty,” She lazily answered.

Chaewon chuckled lightly, “Oh tell me about it.” Her tone was sincere and so, Minjoo poured her feelings out, ranting at Chaewon like she was her good old friend — as if Minjoo did not rudely reject her before.

But hey, Chaewon listened intently to Minjoo and would comment from time to time. Her words were… helpful and relieving, to be honest. Minjoo was shocked that Chaewon could say nice words and advice because the latter looked like she could only say gibberish s.

After a while, Minjoo was more than comfortable. Their gap closened, and they even started to share cigarette sticks as they talked about random things. Minjoo was intrigued, liking Chaewon’s company and the latter was actually funny. Chaewon’s jokes were dry but it was funny.

Kim Chaewon wasn’t so bad after all.

“Sorry for my rude behavior when we first interacted,” Minjoo blurted out all of a sudden, puffing out a smoke from as she handed Chaewon the half lit stick of cigar. “Your first impression wasn’t really all great, you know.”

Chaewon took the stick back, and laughed softly. “Oh yeah. I know. I apologize for being a creep too. Besides,” The older woman paused and took a drag first, “You’re right about me anyway.” She said as she glanced at Minjoo, smoke leaking out from as she spoke.

Minjoo looked at her, humming in confusion.

Chaewon smiled at her, “That I’m someone who works in a ty corporation office, goes to a bar every single night because I’m less, and attends yoga sessions to check out women.” She smoothly repeated what Minjoo had said that very day.

Minjoo was surprised that Chaewon memorized those words, and guilty because she was really harsh back then, too judgy. “Really sorry for that.” She could only mumble in guilt.

Chaewon laughed, shaking her head. “If you’re truly sorry. At least greet me when we meet at the yoga session.” She joked and Minjoo could only pout. “Kidding aside, your words are life changing. No one, as in no one, ever said those words to me.”

Minjoo let out a crooked smile, “So it’s true that you’re less, then.”

They were a giggling mess afterwards. Minjoo’s night really went nicely in contrast to earlier when it was daytime. She was really thankful because she might explode soon.

Minjoo was reapplying her foundation in the bathroom when suddenly, Leeseo and her younger staff entered the restroom too while laughing loudly. They stopped after they saw Minjoo though.

Minjoo just smiled and bowed at them. The staff bowed back but Leeseo just rolled her eyes and went inside the stall. My god, really. All Minjoo wanted to do was post an anonymous call out that Leeseo was actually a little and she was not worth it to be hyped and supported but the company paid her a lot to do her job.

Maybe that hate post could come later on.

After that, Minjoo went to Sakura’s office and saw that she was eating a bagel while watching an e-sports game. Sakura glanced at her, biting on her bagel then asked, “How was your date with Liz days ago?”

Minjoo shook her head, “Horrible.” And started to talk about what happened.

Sakura just snorted and laughed, apologizing lightly that Liz’s actions weirded her out but reassured her that she was a nice person. Romance just got over in her head that she was being like that.

“Up for another blind date, then?” Sakura offered casually.

Minjoo groaned, taking a bite from the bagel she stole. “Who is it this time?”

Sakura grinned at her, “I think you’ll like her.” She said, and Minjoo waited for her to answer as she nibbled on her bagel, eyeing the small cute puppy figure on Sakura’s desk that reminded her of Yujin.

“It’s Kim Minjeong. That famous photographer? Have you heard about her?” Sakura continued on and wiped off the bread crumbs off her chin and pants.

Minjoo almost dropped the bagel, she stared at Sakura, wide-eyed.

“So, are you in?” Sakura asked with a smile.

Of course, Minjoo was in!

Few days later, Minjoo just found herself sitting on the window sill of the hotel room, eyeing the city lights of Seoul as she drank her wine. A smile formed on her lips.

So far, her and Minjeong’s date was wonderful. She knew that it wasn’t ideal to meet at Minjeong’s hotel room but they planned to have a date in the hotel’s restaurant but it was packed so they decided to have some wine first and talk there.

Minjeong was wonderful, so ideal. Minjoo was so swoon. The photographer was talented and praised by a lot of people, on top of that, she was so good-looking and such a kind woman.

They had a blast talking about some of Minjeong’s photos and some paintings too. They really hit it off, they had the same interest and humor. And so, Minjoo was satisfied and really thought that the date was going on smoothly.

Minjeong came back and sat beside her with a smile. They were talking earlier until they were interrupted by the photographer’s ringing phone. It was someone from work and she had to take it, Minjoo could wait anyway.

“So where are we?” Minjeong asked as she comfortably sat and smiled at Minjoo, giving her a very adoring look that made Minjoo’s heart melt.

They continued talking until suddenly, Minjeong leaned in for a kiss. Minjoo liked the feeling. It had been a while, really, she missed being kissed. She felt like she was loved again.

Minjeong kissed her slowly, she kissed her fast. It continued on until they were on the couch, with Minjeong on top of her, caressing her sides while kissing her passionately.

However, Minjoo wasn’t a fan of being too intimate on first dates so she immediately pushed Minjeong off when she felt her hands wandering already. “Sorry, I… it was wonderful but it’s better if we eat out first?” She excused as she sat up, Minjeong was near her feet, staring at her.

“Should we? It’s still most likely packed in there,” Minjeong said, and her eyes roamed around her body, checking her out until her gaze stopped on Minjoo’s feet — her eyes lit up. “You have a nice pair of feet.” She complimented and started to touch Minjoo’s bare foot in a sensual way.

That made Minjoo’s heart jump in alarm.

“C-Can I massage them? And, take pictures of them? I can them for you even, they’re pretty and deserve to be worshipped.” Minjeong whispered in a very loving way and Minjoo was frozen in shock.

There had been rumors that Minjeong had a feet because she kept posting pictures of feet and liking a lot of them in social media… and so, it was true! Oh my god.

Minjoo had never gathered her things so fast, “No thank you! Please don’t contact me ever again.” She said as she scrambled on wearing her shoes and before Minjeong could even stop her or anything, Minjoo slammed the door shut and ran to the elevator.

“Jesus Christ. I thought she’s finally the decent one. It was going well.” Minjoo whispered to herself, shivering when she thought of Minjeong caressing her feet. She was greatly disappointed.

The moment she was in her house, she bombarded Sakura messages and threw her phone away. She plopped on her couch and heaved out a very deep sigh — when she opened her eyes, she stared ahead. “Why can’t I have a peaceful, decent date?” She asked herself, “I just want to be happy and look less pathetic.”

Minjoo stared around and her eyes landed on the painting that was hanging on her wall. It was Yujin’s painting — a fox. The latter painted it years ago when they were still dating, telling Minjoo that she reminded her of a fox so she did that.

Minjoo loved the painting so much so she brought it everywhere she went, almost.

That reminded her that she had to gather Yujin’s remaining things in her house and give them to her. With a sigh, Minjoo murmured as she stared at the painting, “Yujin is having the time of her life with her sweet little Gaeul and yet, here I am…”

Shaking her head, Minjoo stood up and started to go around her house to get Yujin’s remaining belongings.

The next day, Minjoo went to Gaeul and Yujin’s address to personally give the things. She asked Yuri the place and the latter, thankfully, gave it immediately after getting convinced that Minjoo wouldn’t make a scene.

Why would she even make a scene!? Geez. She was already pathetic, she would never dare ruin people’s relationships. She already accepted it too, even though it hurt.

Yujin’s current house was alright, simple but big. Minjoo’s residence was more lavish though. After encouraging herself, she finally went out of the car with a box in hand.

She walked to the porch and placed it on the doorstep. She sighed and rang the bell then waited at the side nervously. No answer. Minjoo pressed it again but no one really answered so no one must be home. Great.

Shaking her head, Minjoo looked around the porch and was surprised to see that there was a trash bag at the sight and it was full. It looked and smelled unpleasant. She went closer there and stared at it, “I thought Yujin already improved? Why can’t she still throw the trash away?” She murmured and clicked her tongue before taking it, walking to the garbage bin near the house.

Minjoo had a hard time tugging it and dumping the trash because it was heavy. She didn’t even notice that a car pulled over in front of the house and the people inside it stared at her, slightly surprised.

With a grunt, Minjoo tried to gather all of her strength but when she threw the garbage in the huge, tall bin with force — she got tugged along and went inside the bin along with the bag. She fell into the bin, and landed on her . “Ow!”

“Oh my god, are you okay, Minjoo?” Yujin’s voice entered her ears.

Minjoo immediately stood up on her feet, not realizing the fact that she smelled like now and her jacket was so dirty, “H-Hey! What’s up!”

Yujin still looked dashing as ever and oh my god, did she just cut her hair?

“What are you doing?” Yujin asked, her eyes were flashing with worry, confusion, and somehow… there was a hint of gladness. She must be glad to see Minjoo again.

Minjoo pointed at the porch, “I-I dropped you things personally so yeah. I also got bothered with the trash so I dumped them for you. Haha, now that I’ve dropped it off. I should get going now. I’m a busy woman so yeah.” She said in a rush and glanced at Gaeul who was flustered then smiled at her, also bowing. “Hi there.” She greeted her with a huge grin.

Yujin’s eyes did not leave her, “Minjoo.” She called out softly and Minjoo waved her off.

“Just call me if I forgot some things.” Minjoo said and briskly walked towards her car, and glanced at the couple one last time. Gaeul was holding Yujin’s arm while the latter was staring at her with a confused, concerned gaze. “Let’s talk some other time. Our papers should be ready to be signed soon. See you guys around!” She said and with that, went away without letting the couple speak.

As Minjoo drove, she couldn’t help but to say to herself, “Disaster.”

Gaeul and Yujin really looked together. And Minjoo was a mess.

That night, Minjoo went to the club alone to loosen up and just try to forget everything until she bumped into Chaewon who looked really glad to see her.

“Hey there, yoga girl.” Chaewon greeted sheepishly. And Minjoo just laughed at her, slapping her arm playfully.

After that fateful night, Chaewon and Minjoo interacted in yoga sessions like friends so they weren’t too awkward anymore when they met here.

They continued to dance around until the whole place got even more crowded to the point it was starting to get suffocating. Chaewon noticed her discomfort and tugged her closer, “Want to get out of here?”

Minjoo looked Chaewon in the eyes, giving her a knowing smile. “I know a better place.” Chaewon said loudly, almost getting engulfed by the loud music.

Of course, Minjoo agreed because she trusted Chaewon.

Chaewon’s car was a white convertible Porsche so Minjoo was having the time of her life as she shouted and raised her arm up in the air as Chaewon drove in the middle of the night.

Chaewon kept glancing at her, and giggled at Minjoo’s antics who looked like she was really having fun. They ate dinner first in Subway; when Minjoo stepped out of the car, her hair was disheveled but she had this lazy grin plastered on her face.

After their dinner they went into a more sophisticated and nicer club. Minjoo certainly liked it there more, the drinks were superb too. The two of them had a very fun time dancing with each other and drinking shots.

“Do you want to go upstairs? There’s a balcony there.” Chaewon asked her once she noticed that Minjoo was getting tired and tipsy.

Minjoo wanted to have a break so she nodded with a lazy smile. The two of them went there and rested on the open balcony. It showed the night life of the city, and the view healed Minjoo a bit, calming down her nerves.

Chaewon bought some canned drinks, and handed one to Minjoo. “Let’s stop taking alcohol for now.” She said, and Minjoo nodded, agreeing as she opened the can and gulped down.

“Did you like it here?” Chaewon asked to break the silence.

Minjoo nodded sheepishly, “Yeah. It’s nicer here. Thank you for bringing me here, Chaewon.” She murmured, blushing a little bit and Chaewon was in awe, getting shy.

The older woman cleared first, “Of course. Just call me and I’ll bring you here. Not just here. Just everywhere you like.” Chaewon murmured as she tapped her fingers on the cold can, and that habit reminded Minjoo of Yujin. They had the same habit.

Minjoo took a deep breath and glanced at Chaewon, smiling brightly. “I owe you a lot. I was having a bad day and you’re my savior.” Minjoo shyly revealed and Chaewon’s expression softened, scooting closer a bit to Minjoo.

“You can call me when you’re having a bad day, and I’ll try my best to cheer you up. Even when you’re not having one, I’m just one call away.” Chaewon said with a very soft voice.

Minjoo’s heart fluttered because of that, staring at Chaewon with an unreadable expression. “Why are you doing this?” asked Minjoo out of the blue, curious and nervous.

Chaewon bit her lower lip, leaning in closer to Minjoo, her eyes in a daze. “Because I like you very much, Kim Minjoo.” She confessed and that shook Minjoo a lot.

The confession came out of the blue but it was so sincere that Minjoo’s heart moved. Since when was the last time someone said they liked her sincerely? The last one was definitely Yujin.

Minjoo stayed rooted in her spot and stared at Chaewon’s orbs that held sincerity. And when Chaewon’s eyes landed on her lips then started to slowly lean in, Minjoo remained unmoving.

Maybe… she deserved this. Chaewon could make her happy, she was already making Minjoo happy. Their start wasn’t great but… Chaewon was consistent. And she loved it. She loved the feeling of this.

However, when Chaewon’s lips finally touched hers. Guilt washed over her, realization hit her like a truck.

She couldn’t do this to someone as sincere as Chaewon. She just couldn’t. Minjoo was still a mess who was still trying to get over her ex-wife. She didn’t want to be cruel to Chaewon. No.

Minjoo wasn’t still ready and she needed to fix herself first before even accepting someone like Chaewon.

Minjoo immediately moved her face away when Chaewon started to kiss her. She took a step backward and when she faced Chaewon, the latter also looked guilty and heartbroken because she was rejected.

“Sorry, I-I just got caught in the moment.” Chaewon immediately apologized, sighing to herself.

Minjoo shook her head, “No, no. I’m the one who needs to be sorry.” She whispered and took a deep breath, staring right back at the other woman. “I’m not ready yet, Chaewon. And I don’t want to be cruel with you. I’m still trying to get over my ex-wife. I just don’t want you to drag in my misery. You don’t deserve that.” She explained.

Chaewon was stunned for a bit because Minjoo cared. She immediately composed herself, “I understand.” She muttered with a soft tone then smiled at her, “Just call me once you’re ready, then. I’ll be just waiting.”

Minjoo’s heart skipped a beat. She was unsure but she nodded anyway. She would. “Thank you, Chaewon. And for the record, I kinda like you too.” Minjoo said, and both of them smiled at each other.

Minjoo went to Yuri and Yena’s one last party before they wed a few days after and she was a freaking mess, still. She was already drunk when she came and Yuri had to keep an eye on her so she wouldn’t make a mess — Minjoo already embarrassed herself by crying like a baby after the ketchup ran out and didn’t want to eat her hotdog sandwich without it.

She wasn’t still in the right state of mind. Chaewon just added in her stress. She was so guilty of what happened even though they talked about it properly in the end.

Minjoo sat on one of the chairs, sipping on her tea as she massaged her temples. The party ended already and Yuri was accompanying her. “I’m so excited already.” She chirped. The wedding would finally happen soon in Busan. Yuri’s hometown.

Their conversation was cut short when suddenly, Minjoo’s phone rang and it was Leeseo. Rolling her eyes, she accepted the call dejectedly. Yuri saw the name and immediately went silent, she knew what was the deal with her friend and that idol.

Leeseo just called to ask her about the meeting and Minjoo could only answer her questions with gritted teeth, after that, Minjoo placed the phone down and Yuri asked a question. “How’s working with that idol?”

Minjoo just exploded all over, “Oh ing terrible. She’s literally my worst client. She’s such an emo teenager and so talentless. All she does is to around and be rude as . I’m just trying my best to put up with her since she’s a client but seriously, I loathe her a lot. She’s not even pretty and doesn’t have a good voice!” She ranted.

Yuri was stunned, and properly sat up, “O…kay.”

Minjoo sighed and continued to rant, “I don’t know why people like her, really. She’s so annoying and—” Minjoo paused as her eyes went to her phone and almost had a heart attack when she saw that the phone was still up, and Leeseo was still most likely listening.

Yuri also noticed it and bit her lower lip. Minjoo fumbled to end the call and looked at Yuri, eyes wide in fear and horror. “Oh lord, good luck.” was all Yuri could say.

Minjoo threw her phone across the garden and bashed her head on the table, “ my life, seriously.”

The next day, Minjoo personally went to visit Leeseo to apologize because after all, she was still a professional and Leeseo’s agency might really sue her if the idol would tell them about this.

She was a nervous wreck when she pressed the doorbell of the idol’s apartment unit. And when the door was opened, Minjoo’s breath hitched as she was greeted by Leeseo who was wearing pajamas instead of her usual rock emo outfits and has zero make up. She’s pretty.

“Uhm,” Minjoo awkwardly shifted and before she could even sputter words of apology, Leeseo turned her back and went inside.

“Close the door when you enter.” The younger girl said, and Minjoo blinked but she did as she was told anyway.

The apartment unit was surprisingly… clean. She had expected that Leeseo’s place must be full of band posters and very dark.

Minjoo carefully walked further and saw that Leeseo was sitting on the couch, emotionless. She gulped and walked closer before saying her apologies, “I’m really sorry about what I said yesterday. I was just drunk as and—”

“I don’t care about what people say. I don’t care about everything,” Leeseo said with a dead tone then turned her head up to meet Minjoo’s eyes. And much to Minjoo’s shock, Leeseo’s eyes became moist and soon enough, she was crying. “My boyfriend cheated on me.”

Minjoo was dumbfounded at first but soon enough, she found herself hugging Leeseo and comforting her as she ranted about her love life and just stuff that she was stressing over. She calmed down soon and clung into Minjoo as if she was her child.

Surprisingly, Minjoo wasn’t even uncomfortable anymore at Leeseo. She felt really bad towards the kid. After that, Leeseo suddenly asked about her love life and Minjoo found herself sharing her stories about Yujin.

Leeseo was very invested in her story, listening intently and looking at her like a puppy while eating ice cream. Minjoo even cried halfway through because she was getting emotional and Inside Out was playing on the television. Leeseo also cried when she cried.

“They are all ,” Leeseo muttered, and huffed. “My boyfriend, your ex-wife. They’re s! ‘em.” She yelled while sniffling, eyes bloodshot from crying.

Minjoo just smiled lazily at Leeseo as she hugged the kid as if she was her own child. They were really comfortable with each other. Leeseo wasn’t a bad person after all. She was really guilty for always dissing and cursing at her but the younger girl just laughed it off.

“But I still had my faults,” Minjoo admitted out loud. She wasn’t still used to admitting her faults. Her pride wouldn’t just allow it but now…

Leeseo just smiled at her, “Well, then you should apologize. She already apologized. Now, it’s your turn. So the both of you can finally move forward. So you can move forward.”

And the kid was right.

It was finally Yuri and Yena’s wedding and Minjoo was almost late but she managed to arrive on time, barely. She was the maid of honor and Yuri would strangle her to death if she was ever late.

The ceremony went well, and Minjoo teared up a little bit for her friends. Somehow, she suddenly remembered when she and Yujin got married years ago. It had been like this… staring at each other like they were one another’s whole world. Her heart ached a bit as she clapped and watched Yuri and Yena seal a kiss.

She was already seated on one of the tables, drinking wine as she watched and listened to the speeches. Until, she was suddenly called for a speech that made her almost choke on her wine.

Everyone clapped for her as she awkwardly stood up from her seat, smiling awkwardly. Oh, she surely did not expect this at all so she hadn’t prepared any speech for her friends. Hopefully, she won’t make a fool out of herself.

Yuri and Yena were smiling at her brightly as she went to the platform, and grabbed the mic but due to nervousness, she dropped it off — creating a loud noise around that made every guest wince.

“Whoops sorry about that, I’m pretty clumsy,” Minjoo immediately apologized and let out an awkward giggle. “So, anyway, congratulations first to our dear newly-weds, Yuri and Yena; my dearest friends. I’m so, so happy right now. I still can’t believe that you guys are finally married now, when in our highschool days you guys always fought each other. Who would’ve thought?” She started off.

There were some chuckles from the guests and Yuri gave her a sheepish grin while Yena held her hand tight. Minjoo smiled at them, “You guys are really soulmates, destined to meet and be with each other for life. I’m just super happy that you guys finally tied the knot. At last.” She said and her smile just widened when Yena leaned in to kiss Yuri’s cheek.

The guests gave her a round of applause, and Minjoo took a deep breath, her eyes roaming around the sea of guests. And she finally saw her target. Yujin was sitting, with of course, Gaeul. Yujin was staring at her with fond eyes.

Minjoo looked away immediately and heaved out a sigh into the mic, “You two are perfect, Yuri-ah, Yena-ah. You two are lucky that you guys found each other, loved each other, and that you guys are best friends for this life. You both should respect that.” She said, breathless — eyes getting moist.

She didn’t know anymore. Maybe, this was the perfect way to say ‘Sorry, I had my faults too’ to Yujin but at the same time, give people some lessons. And to apologize to Yuri and Yena, to Ryujin and Sakura too for giving them a hard time these past months.

Yujin was stunned at her seat, her eyes never leaving Minjoo’s nervous figure from the stage.

“Be patient. With each other. No matter what, try to understand each other, and try to make each other understand. We have flaws after all, and one should acknowledge that.” Minjoo murmured into the mic sadly, grasping the base as if her life was on the line.

Yuri and Yena looked worried and sad but they did not budge. No one budged, they all focused on Minjoo who was going to have a breakdown on the stage but yet, they let her.

“You don’t always have to be right, even if you are… it doesn’t ing matter anymore.” She continued, taking a deep breath. “Fight for it everyday. Your love, your marriage… fight for it, no matter what.” Minjoo wasn’t even breathing as she said those words.

Minjoo paused again and looked around first, meeting eyes with Yujin before breathlessly saying, “I wish I had.” Before putting the mic away, and raised her glass. “Cheers.”

Everyone cheered silently as Minjoo went back to her seat, taking a long sip. Somehow, her heart felt less heavy. As if a weight had been lifted. Yuri, Yena, Sakura, and Ryujin gave her an encouraging look. She smiled at her friends, feeling slightly proud of herself.

Yujin stared at her from her seat, wearing a solemn face. Gaeul asked her if she was alright.

After that, the party continued and Minjoo went to get herself some food. While tasting some food, someone stood beside her. And Minjoo’s heart jumped when she saw Yujin beside her, smiling at her.

“Hey,”

“Hi.” Minjoo greeted back, holding back her breath.

Yujin smiled and also started to get some food, “Nice speech.” She said.

Minjoo stiffly glanced at her, “Thanks.”

Yujin giggled as she picked up some shrimps then placed it on her plate. “Is that an apology, Minjoo?” She asked, and Minjoo bit her lower lip.

“Maybe.” Minjoo said, and with a smile now.

Yujin laughed lightly at that, “Apology accepted.” She answered, which made both of them giggle.

Minjoo let out a breath of relief, “Yujin. I’m really sorry for what happened. I kept denying that I was at fault too that our marriage got ruined but yet I shoved all the fault to you—”

Knowing Minjoo would ramble out a lot of apologies even though Yujin was already cool with it, just really wanted for Minjoo to realize that she was also one of the reasons why they decided to call it off — Yujin smiled and suddenly raised her fist, her thumb sticking out.

Minjoo shut her lips at once, staring at Yujin with a pointed look. “Really, now?” She asked, chuckles spilling out of .

“Why? Afraid to lose?” Yujin challenged, which made Minjoo snort.

“Oh, it’s on!” And the thumb wrestling began.

Yujin and Minjoo kept squealing as they had a thumb wrestling, some guests looked at them with weird looks but never bothered them anyway. In the end, after the intense match, Minjoo won. The latter yelled, “Yes! Still a loser, I see.” Yujin just groaned in defeat.

Both of them started to laugh together and Minjoo felt light. The both of them didn’t need to sputter more words of apology because they already settled it, they understood each other quite well. Until now. That bond wouldn’t break, despite what happened.

And Minjoo could freely breathe now.

But their fun was interrupted when Gaeul suddenly appeared, looking at them curiously, “What are you guys doing?” She asked, and the ex-couple looked at her in sync.

“Oh, it’s just our silly little… thing.” Minjoo tried to explain first, smiling at Gaeul.

Yujin smiled at her girlfriend, “We do thumb wrestling randomly. To distract each other, and if we’re not really in the mood to talk about other stuff. Something like that.” elaborated Yujin further.

Gaeul nodded slowly, not really understanding but she smiled nevertheless. “I see. Uhm, sorry to pipe in. I just need Yujin because of something.” Gaeul said with a polite tone.

Minjoo shook her hands and waved it off, “Ah, it’s alright.” She said, and smiled at Gaeul. “Nice dress, by the way.” She threw a genuine compliment.

Gaeul’s smile widened, “Thank you. You look great too.”

Yujin smiled at their interaction then glanced at Minjoo, “Let’s talk soon.” She said, and when Minjoo nodded to give out her response — Yujin and Gaeul walked away, with the former’s arm wrapped around the latter’s waist.

Minjoo shook her head and just smiled at herself.

Minjoo smoked as she stood outside the venue, watching the people party and drink their hearts out. Her mind was flying away. She had realizations and now, she decided that she would change for the better too for real. Like Yujin. She was more determined to make things right now.

The older woman could only puff out the smoke in the air as she watched her friends have fun. She could only smile at herself then turned her gaze to the full moon that was shining above.

Time to accept and change.

Minjoo and Yujin sat across from each other, their own lawyers beside them — arranging the papers after they finally signed. Minjoo’s heart ached as she wrote her signature earlier, and this just meant one thing; it was official. She and Yujin were divorced.

As the lawyers did their thing, Minjoo and Yujin looked at each other. No one said a thing and Minjoo did not like the awkward atmosphere. And so, she said, “Nice tie.” She complimented then added. “Is it made from organic mung beans?”

Yujin glanced at her, smiling sheepishly. “Nope. I actually found it in your trash.”

They both giggled at each other after that.

When evening fell, Yujin and Minjoo walked out of the building. Officially divorced, although it ached, Minjoo felt fresh. The ex-couple walked around the streets of Seoul, talking about random things like the usual.

Suddenly, Minjoo looked up and halted. Yujin did the same as she ate her popsicle, trying to see where Minjoo was looking and she smiled secretly when she saw that Minjoo was actually staring at Namsan Tower.

Minjoo took out her own stick from , “It’s beautiful.” She whispered.

Yujin stood beside her. “I told you. I don’t know why you hate it so much.

“It’s because I never stared at it when it’s night,” Minjoo replied and they sat on one of the benches that offered a great view of the shining Namsan Tower.

They sat in silence, just staring at the tower until Yujin glanced and broke the silence, “Who would’ve thought? I really didn’t think before that I would ever sign the divorce papers with you.” Yujin whispered, playing with her fingers.

Minjoo bit her lower lip, she actually didn’t want to talk about it. “I learned a lot because of what happened to us.” She replied instead and looked at Yujin, “I regret it a lot but… seeing you happy and trying to be better with Gaeul, it’s fine to me now.”

Yujin sighed, “I’m sorry that we turned out like this.”

Minjoo shook her head, laughing bitterly to herself. “No. I’m sorry that we turned out like this, Yujin-ah.” She firmly said, and tears started to form in her eyes.

She was really sad and regretful but the damage had been done. All they could do was move forward and use their experiences and mistakes as lessons.

Yujin stared at her sadly, and scooted closer before reaching for her cheeks, cupping it. Minjoo let Yujin kiss her on the lips, and this would be the last kiss that they would share. Minjoo knew, and so, she let them be.

Minjoo welcomed her and kissed back as tears fell from her eyes.

“I love you.” Yujin whispered against her lips.

“I love you too.” Minjoo whispered back and tried to hold back as sobs.

It didn’t last long though Minjoo wanted more. Minjoo wiped her tears dry, “I’d appreciate it if we don’t talk about it anymore. We’re already good. God, look, I’m so emotional.” She said and sniffled.

Yujin pressed her lips together, “Sorry.”

Minjoo and Yujin continued to sit beside each other until the night went deeper. They decided to finally go home and they faced each other, staring at one another’s orbs.

“Be happy, Minjoo. I’m always going to be here, y’know? As a friend.” Yujin said, placing her hand inside her pocket.

Minjoo rolled her eyes, giggling. “Of course. Let’s move forward, Yujin. And be happier.”

They both shared a smile and with that, Yujin turned her back first and started to walk further away. Minjoo could only watch with a solemn smile as if Yujin had just finally walked out of her life.

And that was alright. Minjoo took a deep breath and also turned her back, ready to go home but suddenly, there were footsteps behind her — and Minjoo was surprised that it was Yujin, the latter even draped her arm around her shoulders.

“On second thought,” Yujin said, and looked at Minjoo. “I’ll drive you home. The streets are scary at this kind of time. I’m going to be the bad guy if you get robbed.”

Minjoo laughed at that but she did not refuse anyway.

This was fine too.

Almost a month later…

“Oh my god, the album is a hit!” Leeseo chirped as she clung on Minjoo while they walked through the corridor of the office. Minjoo could only smile at the kid, feeling proud.

“You deserve it. The songs are great.” Minjoo genuinely said, and Leeseo just playfully rolled her eyes. “It’s too bad I ruined the cover.”

Who would know that they would grow closer with one another? But hey, Minjoo liked it. Leeseo was actually a fun kid.

“Nah, the gays are loving it.” Leeseo answered instead then tugged Minjoo closer to her, “I’ll tell the company to hire you again for my next album. Redeem yourself there then.” added the kid and Minjoo laughed at her, just nodding.

“I’ll be going now then. I just dropped by to ask you and Sakura-unnie to go to my party later~” Leeseo said, and they talked for quite a little bit before parting.

Minjoo went inside her office to get her things and dropped by Sakura’s office who gave her a smile once she saw her. Minjoo told her about the party and Sakura said that she would go with her. “Have a safe trip home.” Sakura added when Minjoo finally bid her goodbye.

Minjoo smiled at her friend and said, “You too. Don’t overwork.” Then closed the door.

After a few minutes, Minjoo was standing outside of her building, looking around and taking a deep breath. A lot of things changed, she thought of randomly. Before, she would wait for Yujin here and the latter would drive her home but now… Minjoo drove home alone.

And that was fine. Although it was quiet, she was already used to it.

Change was really constant. There were unexpected changes, really.

A lot of things happened this year but Minjoo was now ready to advance forward again. Even though Yujin wasn’t right beside her, it was alright. It’d be like that, sometimes. Everything didn’t always go according to plan even if you wanted it so bad.

Minjoo really thought she would have her ‘forever’ with Yujin. However, even though Minjoo couldn’t have the ‘forever’ she wanted with Yujin — her memories and friendly bond with her would forever remain.

The only thing mattered was that they did not part on bad terms and currently, friends. Not like before though. This time, just friends who sometimes hang out with Yuri, Yena, and Ryujin.

Smiling to herself, Minjoo went to the parking lot and hopped inside her car.

As she drove, she couldn’t help but to glance outside and smile before taking her phone out. She then dialed someone’s number as she drove, a smile plastered on her lips.

About two rings or so, the person accepted the call and greeted her, “Minjoo. It’s been a while. How are you?” Her voice was soft and did not even have the faintest annoyance that Minjoo just called now.

Minjoo’s smile turned into a bright grin, “Chaewon,” She called softly, “I’m doing fine. I sure do hope you are too.”

Chaewon immediately answered, “Good to know. I’m doing alright too.” Her voice was so breathless that it made Minjoo giggle. “Why did you call?” asked Chaewon, and it sounded like she was holding her breath.

Minjoo giggled silently, glancing at the sun before focusing on the road. “Because I’m ready.”

There was a silence, and then, a loud crashing sound as if Chaewon dropped the phone. And it made Minjoo guffaw.

“W-What? For real?” Chaewon asked after picking her phone up, her voice was hopeful.

Minjoo smiled to herself, “Say…” She paused as her heart fluttered.

“Are you free this weekend, Chaewon?”
