The shop is open. 

The door chimes and I immediately perk up. An adventurer. There is very little that my shop cannot offer to various adventurers of different levels (though we’re not really allowed to sell rare drop items except on special events) but I doubt he’d be looking for an ingredient too rare. Judging from his small list and tall stack of books, he’s probably another academician assistant turned pack mule and store runner by their mentor. I made my way to the counter, dusting my apron as I approached.

What will it be for today?

Elm ash, Tiger’s eye, Chamomile. -he said this while catching his breath. Poor guy needs a drink so I’ll throw one in. He looked at me with curious eyes, to which I responded by saying it was on the house.

I watched him with sympathy in my eyes as he left the shop with a smile, probably his first (and only) for the day.

Well, this is everyday for me.

I am a merchant. I live to sell goods, replenish my stock, and account for the money coming in and out of the shop. I live in a bedroom apartment on the second floor of my building, nothing fancy. It’s efficient since I just need to roll out of bed, walk down the stairs, and open my shop. My name is Seulgi, but most people that come into my shop don’t bother to know. For the most part, they’re excited to go about their quest, and live the exciting life of an adventurer. My regulars are different though. They make a point to ask me about my day but it’s really always the same. The most interesting thing I can do in my shop is to find ways to run it efficiently, if I'm getting my supply with the best quality and value, otherwise, the flow of my day is the same: Open shop, operate, close shop, rinse and repeat. But my regulars do call me by my name, so I always add in a trail bar or a refreshing juice or two. Perks of being kind to the merchant. Unlike adventurers that roam the world freely, I’m mostly in my shop, ready to serve whenever the door opens and I hear the chime.

Don’t get me wrong, I like my job. I like that it gives me a sense of importance even if my shop is just a pit stop. I like giving people their starter maps that they can fill with information as they roam the world. I like selling potions, trinkets, weapons that aid them in their quests. I like giving their rewards and seeing their happy faces when they accomplish my procurement quests. But what I like the most is the sense of direction my job indirectly give these adventurers; how not
