Now and Forever

Two girls were sitting on the red couch of their shared hotel room atop the unique, cliff-top village at the island of Santorini. Completely ignoring the magnificent sunset as they work out on every detail, finalizing everything before the ceremony tomorrow.

“Do you believe in fate?”

The smaller girl blurted out of the blue, staring at the what seems to be the void. The other girl looked at her and couldn’t help but to chuckle at the cuteness of sight but returned, nevertheless, to her task. Clearly, not answering the question, to much of the smaller girl’s dismay.

“Yah.” The smaller girl nudged the other which made her look. She pouted ever so cutely trying to divert her complete attention on her instead of the countless packaging of souvenirs, in front of them, for tomorrow’s event.

“I’m trying to work here. Don’t you dare try to pull that on me. We have to make sure everything is in order. I don’t want anything-“ The smaller girl interrupted her rambling with a quick kiss which the other, almost immediately, melted into.

“You should save that for tomorrow.” She said after the kiss, slightly pushing the smaller girl not too much because she loves looking at her in such a close proximity, makes her appreciate her features more. The smaller girl is now grinning knowing that her plan succeeded.

“So, do you believe in fate?” She repeated her question while resting her head on the other’s shoulder. The other girl just hummed in response and adjusted her position to make sure that the smaller girl is leaning on her comfortably.

“Why ask all of a sudden?” The other asked and chose to play with the smaller girl’s hand still completely ignoring the sunset, because of course, the human hand is far more phenomenal than anything else in the world, especially if it belongs to your lover.

“I don’t know. I’m just wondering if we’re actually destined to be together.” The smaller girl muttered in a small voice, only but them can hear.

“What’s that supposed to mean? Are you doubting my love for you?”

“No, Mina. God no!” The smaller girl answered hurriedly not wanting to upset the other.

“I’m glad that you’re here beside me, watching this amazing sunset.”

The two finally looked at the sunset and suddenly realized what they were missing.

“Me too. I’m glad that it’s you.” Mina smiled contentedly while placing a chaste kiss on top of the smaller girl’s head. Chaeyoung smiled even more and snuggled closer to the other.

“I guess I’m just realizing how lucky am I to be with you. ‘Cause the possibility of me finding you is like below zero percent.”

“You got that right.” Mina snickered and Chaeyoung laughed, amused at her confidence. Mina never really failed to surprise her and Chaeyoung doesn’t seem to mind at all.

“Hey, I feel lucky to be with you too.” Mina intertwined their hands and gave it a light squeeze hoping that her sincerity would reach the other.

“I know but what if it’s not just luck? What if I had gone to the movies with Dahyun instead of attending that art exhibit where I met you. Or what if I just stayed home instead of going to that New Year’s Eve party thrown by Sana when I finally had the courage to actually confessed my feelings for you, which you, unexpectedly, returned, and know that I’m forever grateful for that, by the way.” This made Mina laugh and couldn’t help but to place a quick kiss on the back of Chaeyoung’s hand while their hands are still intertwined.

“You’re making it sound like you’re head over heels for me.” Mina said unconvincingly.

“I am! I am!” Chaeyoung exclaimed jolting up with fire in her eyes staring directly at Mina’s.

“Me too, baby.” The pet name made Chaeyoung calmed down and smiled as she settled back, this time hugging Mina by her side. Both sighed contentedly in each other’s arms both wishing that the moment would last forever. With a few seconds before the sun completely sets, Chaeyoung spoke.

“I love you, Mina. Now and forever.” Looking dearly at her lover, Mina smiled.

“I love you too, Chaeng.”  And the two shared a sweet kiss sealing their promises whilst holding each other not one wanting to let the other go. And it couldn’t be more ideal since they’re spending their most precious moment in one of the most romantic places on Earth.

*in the middle of the night

“Chaeng, wake up.” Mina poked Chaeyoung’s cheeks gently to wake her up. Only the moon giving them the right amount of light inside their hotel room.

“Hmm?” Chaeyoung tried to open her eyes. “What’s up?” she replied sleepily.

“You’re right.” Mina smiles so lovingly at her even though she’s sure, that the other won’t see it.

“What are we talking about?” Chaeyoung asked dumbfoundedly.

“We are destined to be together. You and me. It’s not just luck.” Mina continued.

“And I think even if you hadn’t gone to that art exhibit, I would still meet you in other ways. At the park, at the grocery, at some party, I think we would still be here even if we meet differently. And if you hadn’t confessed to me that New Year’s Eve, maybe I would make the first move, or maybe you would come with another way to confess to me.” Chaeyoung is now listening intently, tiredness completely forgotten.
“No matter what choices we make, or what path we take, I believe that we would still end up here, in each other’s arms and no one can change that. Even if you don’t want me.”

“I want you! I want you!” Chaeyoung exclaimed like a kid proving her point even though there is no argument to begin with. Mina laughed at how childish her lover is.

“I would still choose you over and over again, Chaeng. Whenever, wherever, however. You and me both. We’re meant to be.” Mina finished off her speech and gave Chaeyoung the sweetest kiss there is. Chaeyoung teared up a little bit but let out a teasing smile.

“You should save that for later.” She said and lightly poked Mina’s nose. This made the girls laugh before Mina pulled the smaller one into her embrace.

“I know. Maybe I just can’t wait.” Chaeyoung smiled while scooting closer to the other.

“I know, I can’t wait either. Let’s just sleep now. We have a very hectic schedule tomorrow, yeah? Good night, Mina.” Mina hummed and closed her eyes before uttering, “Good night, my love.”

The day couldn’t be more perfect – sun shining brightly up in the sky, everything going as planned, everything is in place. It’s like everyone is in favor of this day. Few people are gathered in the Church, ladies dressed in various teal dresses, gentlemen clad in matching tuxedos. All were smiling looking upfront, witnessing the union of the two women, dressed in white, lost in each other’s eyes.

“Have you come here to enter into Marriage without coercion, freely and wholeheartedly?” The wedding officiant asked the couple in front of him.

“I have.”

“I have.”

Both declared with the biggest smile on their faces, not showing any hint of hesitation.

“Are you prepared, as you follow the path of Marriage, to love and honor each other for as long as you both shall live?” The wedding officiant continued.

“I am.”

“I am.”

Both answered almost immediately, not wasting any time. Both looked at each other, other people present in that Church slowly fading into the background. At last, the time has come.

“Okay, let’s proceed. Rings?” Jeongyeon went beside Chaeyoung and pass her the rings.

“Here you go, cub.” Jeongyeon smiled at Mina and the latter returned it as the former passed the ring to Chaeyoung.

“Thanks, hyung.” Chaeyoung fondly looked at Mina as she slid down the ring to her finger slowly.

“I, Son Chaeyoung, take you, Myoui Mina, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.” Mina couldn’t help but to tear up a bit by the sincerity that is evident in Chaeyoung’s voice. She knew she made the right choice marrying the woman in front of her and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

The wedding officiant turned to look at the other bridesmaid and gestured her to give the ring to Mina as it was her turn already. Nayeon snapped out of her own world and passed the ring to Mina, she too was moved by Chaeyoung’s declaration of her love to Mina.

Geez, I can’t wait to find someone that will love me just as much as Chaeyoung loves Mina. The girl internally sighed. She suddenly realized that Jeongyeon was silently giggling while looking at her.

“What’s your problem?” Nayeon mouthed to Jeongyeon irritably but softly not wanting to gain any attention to them. Jeongyeon just shook her head, still with a smirk on her face, now she has something to tease the other later.

Mina took her time in sliding the ring to Chaeyoung’s finger while uttering her vow.

“I, Myoui Mina, take you, Son Chaeyoung, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.” Mina finished off and looked straight to her lover’s eyes.

“With that said, I now pronounce you, wife and wife. You may kiss.” The wedding officiant coax the newly married couple as everyone in the Church cheered them on.

Chaeyoung and Mina kissed as seemed to be the first of many. They seal with a kiss the promise of forever in each other’s arms. Both are uncertain of what the future holds for them, but one thing is for sure, they have each other to make it through. Now and forever.

All the other guests were so engrossed in the music playing by the local band trying to dance the night away. And then there’s their friends: Jihyo and Tzuyu were busy trying to stop Momo from inhaling all the food in the buffet; Sana and Dahyun were playing the duck, duck, goose game with the kids; and Jeongyeon helplessly teasing Nayeon about the latter’s daydreaming incident during the ceremony. Yup, nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing except the fact that Chaeyeong and Mina are already married.

A slow song came up and Chaeyoung had an idea.

“Let’s dance.” Chaeyoung stood up from her chair and offered her hand which Mina took gladly. The two were dancing leisurely with no space in between.

“So, how’s your night Mrs. Son?” Chaeyoung playfully asked the other while swaying to the beat.

“This could top as the best night of my entire existence.” Mina answered proudly showing her gummy smile to her wife.

“Well, I don’t know about that. But I could show you how I would top you tonight.” Chaeyoung wiggled her eyebrows and gave an enticing smile.

“Hmmm, I can’t wait for that.” Mina gave Chaeyoung a lingering kiss on her cheek before whispering, “But seriously though, you just made me the happiest girl, Chaeng.” Mina is now looking at the other’s eyes and Chaeyoung couldn’t help but to lean in for a quick kiss.

“Well, the same goes for me too.”
