Because of Flu

When Eunbi walks into her apartment only to be greeted by the muted sounds of the TV, she immediately knows something is wrong. It’s 3 PM on a Thursday, which means her roommate should be at work and the apartment should be empty. Sakura is nothing if not a creature of habit, after all, and in the past year of cohabitation she’s pretty much memorized her entire schedule. Thursdays go like this: she wakes up at 5:30 and brews a pot of coffee before jumping into the shower; re-emerges fifteen minutes later to have breakfast while her hair air-dries (heat is damaging, Eunbi); heads back to her room around 6 to get dressed for work; makes one final stop in the kitchen to pour the rest of the coffee into her thermos and then brew a fresh pot for Eunbi (even though she’s never once asked her to) because she knows Eunbi has an 8 AM weekly meeting on Thursdays. And then Sakura leaves for work, stays there till 6 PM, arrives at home at 7 PM and play games until midnight. But not today, evidently, because today Sakura is camping out on the couch with the thickest blanket they own (Eunbi's, obviously) wrapped around her like a cocoon. Eunbi closes the front door behind her and pads cautiously into the living room. In their entire year of living together, she’s never once seen Sakura take a day off from work, let alone to veg out in front of the TV. “Why aren’t you at work?” She asks, moving on autopilot as she drops her keys into the dish on the end table and sets her bag down on the armchair; her attention is focused entirely on Sakura, who’s snapped her eyes open at the sound of her voice and is now looking at her with an unsettling expression on her pale face. “Eunbi unnie!” She says almost happily, the first time she’s ever heard her call her name that way. Her smile is a little too wide, her eyes are a little too bright… The older girl reaches forward to press her hand against her forehead. “Yup.” Eunbi sighs to herself as she takes note of her burning skin. “You’re definitely sick.” Sakura seems completely unconcerned by this, choosing instead to nudge at Eunbi's hand with her nose and nuzzle into her palm like an overgrown cat. Then, as if this uncharacteristic move isn’t disturbing enough, she starts to whine about how her eyes are burning and is on fire and every part of her hurts. “I’m dying, unnie.” She tells her, all wide eyes and trembling lips. Eunbi should be recording this for blackmail material. Instead she rolls her eyes and moves to prop the younger up. “Ugh, I don't know that you are such a baby when you get sick.” Eunbi mutters as she shoves at Sakura until she sits up. “You should be my baby.” Sakura tells her very seriously, her eyes completely glazed over with fever. “And I’ll be yours. And then someday we’ll have real babies together.” She sighs almost wistfully, shooting her that wide, dopey smile again before she leans forward to press her face into the older girl's stomach. Even in the throes of what she suspects to be a horrible flu, Sakura’s hair still looks really, really nice. Eunbi wants nothing more than to reach down and run her hands through it while the younger nuzzles into her stomach. “Okay, let’s get you to the hospital.” She says instead, stepping away from the Japanese girl. Sakura nearly trips over when she tries to chase after Eunbi, and in her haste to regain her balance the blanket slips down to reveal her bare shoulders. Eunbi squeezes her eyes shut and brings a hand up to rub at her temples. “Sakura, please tell me you’re dressed.” She opens her eyes only to find the brown-haired beauty shrugging the blanket off entirely, and of course she’s wearing nothing but the undergarment she presumably woke up in this morning. (Eunbi hates that she knows what Sakura wears to sleep, hates how her heart skips a beat sometimes when she pads out of her room in the mornings still half-asleep and barely dressed). “Nope!” Sakura tells her with a cildish grin, the kind Eunbi’s only seen in the childhood pictures Nako likes to show her when Sakura is not around. The kind Eunbi dreams of sometimes. “Okay, new plan.” Eunbi announces as she marches over to her room. “Let’s get you dressed, and then I will take you to the hospital.” Sakura makes no move to follow her, and so Eunbi carefully makes her way into the room she hasn’t entered since Yujin moved out and Sakura moved in as her replacement roommate. The furniture is still the same, but it’s amazing how different the room is these days. When Yujin lived here it was warm and welcoming and possibly Eunbi’s second-favorite place in the world; now it’s stripped down and clinically organized and there’s not even a single picture or knick-knack on display. It takes a bit of digging around, but finally Eunbi finds a soft tee shirt and a pair of sweatpants nestled between her many crisp shirts, fancy suits and dresses and overpriced jeans. Getting the shirt on is easy enough, even though she inadvertently gets an eyeful of Sakura’s abs as she helps her into the tee. It’s not the first time she’s seen them – the younger girl has an infuriating habit of walking around in just her boxers and her sports bra – but she’s never been this close and OMG, how is Sakura this ripped when she only spend her free time to play games anyway? Her pants prove to be more of a challenge, especially because Sakura seems to be more interested in babbling at her rather than actually helping her. She gets the pants up to her knees before motioning for her to stand, and Sakura braces her hands on her shoulders for unnecessary support as she pulls her sweatpants the rest of the way up. “You’re so good to me, Unnie. You always care, even when you’re angry or you say you hate me or you call me an idiot. God, I love you.” The Korean woman freezes, her hands still curled around the waistband of the younger's pants. “Kkura-yaa–” Eunbi can’t speak, can’t move, can’t even look up at her. A year and half of fleeting glances and morning coffees and movie nights, a year and a half of wondering what if, and now she just… “Can’t let you know, though.” Sakura mumbles, oblivious to the fact that she just turned Eunbi's world upside down. One hand leaves her shoulder to play with a lock of her hair, and she keeps speaking as Eunbi’s heart gets lodged somewhere in . “Wish I could just tell you, but then you’d just hate me even more and things would get awkward and I’d have to move out, and we probably wouldn’t ever speak again because you don’t even think of me as a friend.” Why would Sakura think that? After a year of her leaving leftovers for her on nights when the younger girl's working late, after all those times they’ve ended up falling asleep together in front of the TV and sitting way too close to each other at Nako’s get-togethers. Eunbi straightens up, but not before she gets a good look at the coffee table

Chapter 1: Oh my god. This is just so freaking sweet.
I love how they slowly letting their feeling slip through after moving in together; Sakura with her coffee and Eunbi with her leftovers. No one say a word but the feeling and tension are in the air. The moment they admit to their feeling is so satisfying.
God bless you for writing this. I love every bit of it.
