COLORFUL

Her life was monochrome before she came into her life. She was the monotone girl who did everything precisely, correctly, and always tried to please the elders in her family. Her life was controlled and boring. And she was bound to follow the rules set by the elders. She was raised to be a wise, graceful, polite, and elegant figure. The princess that her families hoped her to be.

She grew up with pressure and carried the weight and burden alone. But she never said anything. She didn’t let out the displeased feelings that she kept inside her heart. She couldn’t. Because she knew that no matter how hard she tried, it would end up futile. And all her hard works would be wasted for nothing good. At least, she learnt it hard way. Her body was chained up and her life was controlled by the invisible strings attached on her body.

Every single moves and every single things she did were controlled and watched. 1 mistake and the world would be ready to rain the punishment. And that was her entire 18 years life that she went through. She knew that it was for her own good, but it was getting too much and she didn’t want to feel it anymore. She wanted to break the rules. She wanted her freedom. And she got it once she left high school.

Mina was freed and given her freedom by the time enrolled university. She was finally able to do everything that she liked without being criticized by someone. And her parents supported her for everything she did. But still, even soshe still couldn’t help but to realize that her life was so monotone that it was starting to bore her. But it was only before she let her. Before she met the girl that changed her life fully. And she would forever be grateful for her.

It was on her first day of her first semester in the university and she found herself lost when she wanted to find the cafeteria for lunch. But she was almost late for her class and she didn’t want to leave a bad impression from the first day. She sighed to herself and walked aimlessly around the building. She wanted to ask, but she was too timid and shy to do so.

“Hey.” She felt someone tapped her right shoulder and caused her to jolt up in surprise, catching off-guard the one who called her.

“I’m sorry. Did I scare you?” The person asked. Mina had her hand place on where her heart was located. And it was enough as the proof that the person was indeed scaring her.

The person showed an apologetic smile for scaring her. “I’m sorry if I scared you. It’s justI noticed that you’ve been walking here forth and back, likeyou’re looking for something.” Mina opened trying to say she was lost but her voice was too soft and almost like a whisper. It was so soft that the person could barely catch it. But she knew what happened to Mina. “Are you lost?” the person asked and Mina nodded.

The person smiled. “What’s your name? You must be a first year since you’re lost in this huge place.” The person smiled as she asked the question. Knowing that Mina might get uncomfortable by stranger talking to her.

“Mina. Myoui Mina.” Mina answered. The person that she met just now let out the brightest smile that she had.

“I could see why Nayeon and Jeongyeon were so loud today. You were exactly someone that needed to be protect. I’m Momo by the way. Hirai Momo. I’m on my last year in dance major. Nice to meet you, Mina.” Momo said as she introduced herself to Mina.

Mina smiled when she heard that. Well, she recognized the girl that Momo mentioned earlier. The senior that fond of her and treated her as if she was their little sister. “Well, since you’re lost, you can take me where to go since I think you’d have afternoon class after this. Like how Nayeon and Jeongyeon used to have too.” Mina felt confused by what Momo said. Her memory was strong.

“I-I wanted to go to the cafeteria. For lunch. But I got lost.” Mina said to her with her soft voice, but it became a whisper on the last part because she was shy and embarrassed about what happened to her. Momo found Mina cute with that personality of hers.

“It’s okay. I’ll just tell Nayeon or Jeongyeon to make excuse for you later on. Follow me.” Momo said as she walked ahead and lead Mina to the cafeteria while explaining about the route to go to the cafeteria and other places that Mina didn’t know.

When they reached their destination, Momo pulled Mina to order her lunch first before she took her to meet someone. “Sana!” Momo called when she saw a girl sitting on the corner of the cafeteria. Mina could feel her heart beat faster when she saw the girl and she was so pretty. The girl that Momo called as Sana had soft brown locks and it was long. The girl looked so ethereal and Mina could feel her face heat up when she looked at the 2 of them with a smile.

“Hey, Mo. Who’s the girl with you?” She asked. And Mina was sure that this girl was an angel before she became human. How come she could be this pretty?

“Oh, right. Mina, this is Sana. And Sana, this is Mina.” Momo said as she introduced Mina to Sana. Sana smiled when she noticed that Mina was blushing.

“So, she’s the girl that Nayeon and Jeongyeon talked about? She’s cute.” Sana said. Mina blushed even more and tried to hide herself from looking into Sana’s eyes.

“I know right? I guess Nayeon’s radar isn’t that bad. Come join us, Mina.” Momo invited and for the first time in her life, Mina didn’t know what to do.

Mina still remembered that it took 2 weeks after their encounter for her to know that Sana was actually dating with Momo. And she still remembered how bitter she was when she knew about the truth. It was really hard for her to swallow. It was still fresh in her memory even though 7 years had passed since that day.

Mina smiled fondly when she took the picture frame that she put on her office desk. It was a photo of the 2 of them together on Nayeon and Jihyo’s wedding party last year. Both of them were appointed as Nayeon and Jihyo’s bridesmaids and it was a pleasure for them. She noticed that Jihyo probably asked a lot of photographer to take pictures of their friends on her wedding.

2 years had passed since they got married and Mina could feel that she was falling deeper for Sana and she couldn’t deny that. They had gone through thick and thin and a lot of joy and sorrow in their life. Mina felt like she was ready to sacrifice anything for Sana. She would go back and forth to the moon for Sana’s happiness because she deserved everything that the world offered.

She let out a smile and looked at the clock. It’s about time for her to pick Sana up from her agency. Today was a special day and Mina needed to make it special too. She tidied her things first before she grabbed her car’s key and left her office. After letting her secretary knew that she would leave early, Mina left her company and headed toward the basement where she parked her car.

Just when she was about to leave, her phone rang and it was Sana the one who called her. “Hi, baby. Are you done?” Mina asked as she drove out from the parking lot. She heard the noise of something rustling from the other line. And she could tell that it was Sana tidying her things.

“Yes, I’m done. Can you pick me up please?” Sana asked from the other line once she finished tidying her things. And Mina could hear the clicking sound of Sana’s heels against the floor. Mina could assume that she was walking toward the entrance and ready to wait for her.

“Sure, honey. Where’re you now? I’m heading to pick you up.” Mina answered as she put her phone on the speaker mode and focused on driving.

“You can pick me up at Nayeon’s boutique. I was having my dress fitted for the event that Nayeon is going to host.” Sana explained. And Mina unconsciously smiled.

“Okay. I’ll be there in 15. I love you, hon. See you.” Mina couldn’t control her smile when she heard Sana replied her ‘I love you too’ in a soft voice. Ah, Sana would be the death of her.

Mina drove her car quicker than usual since she wouldn’t want Sana to wait for a long time. It was nearing lunch time when Mina went to pick Sana up. And she would bring Sana for lunch and probably a date after their lunch. Mina couldn’t help but to feel excited for meeting Sana today. Even though she’d seen her every day.

And 15 minutes as what Mina promised, she arrived at Nayeon’s boutique and Mina could see Sana was waiting for her while talking with Nayeon outside. Mina showed her smile before she got out from the car. Both Nayeon and Sana turned when they saw Mina walking toward them with a smile.

“Hey, Nay. It’s been a while.” Mina greeted as the older girl hugged her. Mina hugged Nayeon back with a small pat on her back.

“Your hair has grown longer, Mina. It suits you.” Nayeon complimented. Mina smiled after she heard that. Sana also said the same when she let the latter knew about growing her hair.

“I knew. Sana told me about it every day.” Mina said as she placed her left hand around her wife’s waist.

Nayeon playfully rolled her eyes when she saw how Mina acted around Sana. But it was a cute sight to see. If only her wife was there. “Now I regretted on saying that you two would make a cute couple, because you girls are being gross right now.” Nayeon teased causing Mina and Sana to giggle.

“You said it as if you and Jihyo aren’t being gross too whenever you two hang out with us.” Mina teased back. And then the 3 of them burst into a laughter fit. It’d been a while since the last time they talked like this.

“I wish we could spend more time talking like this with the others. But Sana and I need to go.” Mina said after talking for a while. Both Mina and Sana were disappointed that they couldn’t spend more time with their best friend, but they really needed to go.

“It’s okay. We could meet up with the other girls later on. Just made sure that you’re available when the time comes.” Nayeon reassured both of them that it wasn’t a big problem.

“Sure. We’ll see you later, Unnie.” Sana said as they waved to Nayeon before getting into Mina’s car. Nayeon waved back and Mina drove her car toward their next destination.

It was only silence that accompanied the 2 of them inside the car. But it wasn’t suffocating kind of silence. Instead, it was calming and soothing kind of silence. And both of them enjoyed it. Mina’s eyes might be focusing on the road, but her hand said otherwise. Her left hand left the steering wheel only to hold Sana’s hand. Sana found it amusing of how Mina always treated Sana during their times alone together.

“We might get into accident you know.” Sana teased. But Mina didn’t say anything else. Instead she just held Sana’s hand tighter.

“I won’t mind.” Mina answered the teasing without even looking at Sana, but still she managed to let out a small smile.

25 minutes later, both Mina and Sana arrived at their destination. It was a fancy restaurant that Mina had brought Sana to. But this time it wasn’t the restaurant where they had their first date. It was somewhere else and it made Sana smiled. Mina was trying something new and it was nice. “Let’s go?” Mina asked while looking at Sana with a small smile and the gentle gaze that she had when she looked at Sana.

“Sure.” Sana answered and both of them got out from the car and entered the restaurant hand-in-hand.

The people inside the restaurant were looking at them when they entered, but they didn’t pay any attention to their surroundings and just sat comfortably on the seat they chose. A waiter came to hand them the menu and both of them ordered the same thing like always. Classic pasta and vegetable salad along with a bottle of champagne. The same menus that they would ordered whenever they were out to eat on a restaurant.

“You sure had a thing for vintage.” Sana when she realized about the atmosphere of the restaurant and the decorations and furniture.

Mina scoffed but didn’t say anything, knowing that her wife was just teasing her. “Stop teasing me, Sana.” Mina said with a small pout forming on her lips. And Sana found it cute. No matter how long they were together, Sana would find all Mina’s antics and actions cute no matter what she did.

Without waiting for a long time, their foods and drink were finally served and they took their time in enjoying their food while sharing about their day. Mina found herself smiling after hearing what Sana was doing for the day. Her schedule wasn’t that packed up and Mina was glad that Sana didn’t overwork herself again.

Once they finished their meals, Mina decided to pay and both of them left the restaurant. “Wanna have a walk to the park?” Mina asked as she lured out her hand for Sana to hold.

Mina was always sweet to Sana and she always loved it. So she took the hand that Mina offered and let her led the way. Both of them were walking side by side and enjoying their time together. Today was a special day for Sana and Mina couldn’t help but to sink in with the realization. ‘Oh . It is today.’ Mina screamed inside her head. She couldn’t help but to a little bit anxious about what she was going to do.

When they arrived at the park, Mina took Sana to one of the bench and sat there for a while and enjoyed the afternoon breeze. It was cloudy and the weather was nice for their date. “Do you want an ice cream?” Mina couldn’t help but to ask. Sana smiled and nodded her head.

Mina let Sana removed her hand so Mina could go and buy their ice cream. It was when Sana was struck by the realization. Today was her birthday but Mina didn’t say anything to her yet. Sana wasn’t disappointed but she wished that Mina would say something to her.

“Here you go. Your vanilla ice cream with honeycomb as the topping. Your favorite.” Mina said as she handed the ice cream to Sana. And Sana took it with a wide smile on her face.

They ate it while throwing jokes at each other. Sana’s laughter was music to Mina’s ears and she wanted to hear it all day long and she didn’t want to waste any more time. Sana stood from the bench and turned her back to Mina while she enjoyed the view that she could appreciate from the park. And something from that sight sent Mina to think. ‘It’s time.’ Mina said to herself and she stood from her place too.

Mina walked toward Sana and placed her hands on Sana’s waist, back hugging her and leaned her head on Sana’s shoulder. “Sana” Mina softly called. Sana hummed as the response. Mina exhaled her breath slowly.

“Happy birthday, honey. I knew I should have said it from earlier. But I wanted to say it along with other things that I wanted to tell you.” Mina gently said as she turned Sana’s body to face her.

Sana didn’t say anything but place her hands on Mina’s neck. Mina exhaled her breath slowly and opened to say something. “You do know that we went through thick and thin together right? I know that it was what we vowed to each other on our wedding. But I need to tell you something that I didn’t tell you on my vow. So please listen to it, yeah?” Sana nodded her head and Mina found the words that she wanted to say the most was stuck in .

“I said that I wanted to be forever happy with you and I meant it. I wanted to be with you for eternity and I really hoped for it too. But it was starting to get bored when I couldn’t see you anymore during the day but I could feel you during the night and it was something that I cherished the most. But there’s something empty in a space of my heart that you couldn’t fill.” Mina paused.

Sana couldn’t understand what Mina mean by that. Could it be that Mina want to ask for divorce? “What are you trying to tell me, Mina?” Sana asked as she could feel tears pricked on her eyes.

Mina smiled when Sana asked her that. Mina gently removed Sana’s hands from her neck and hold it. She looked at Sana’s eyes directly and Mina could feel her eyes getting teary too. This was the moment that she was waiting for. But it was so hard to tell her. “You made my days become colorful with your smile. You made me happy with your affection. I guessed it is the time for me to finally return the happiness to you. Sanawould you like to start a small family with me?” She said it. Mina finally said it.

Sana couldn’t believe her ears after hearing that. She didn’t expect Mina to ask her that. She thought that Mina was going to divorce her but it turned out to be wrong. Her tears rolled down freely and she let out a small smile before she jumped to Mina and gave her a passionate kiss filled with affection and adoration.

“Of course, I would. Thought you’d never ask.” Sana answered when they parted their lips. And now, it was Mina’s turn to cry. But this time, she didn’t cry from anxiety. Instead, she was crying because she was happy that it was finally happening. One of her dreams that she wanted to be a reality.

“Thank you so much for granting my wish, Sana. Thank you.” Mina said as she attached their forehead together and Sana smiled when Mina said that. She should be the one to say thank you not the other way. But in the end, it was their dream together. And it was finally becoming reality.
