Are you a skater? Cuz damn, what a figure

Are you a skater? Cuz damn, what a figure

Yoongi felt kind of awkward, coming to the ice rink alone. Everyone there either fell into the category of ‘parent and child(ren)’, ‘group of friends’, or ‘couples’. And then there was Yoongi.

He pulled the clunky, obnoxiously coloured skates on and tentatively stepped onto the ice. He clung to the wall, completely out of his element.

Yoongi felt extremely awkward, being the only one older than 12 on the ice who couldn't skate.

His first round of the rink was painfully slow. Yoongi probably only let go of the wall for about one second in total, but it was a start. Slowly, slowly, he started to get a little more confident, until he could skate without holding the wall at all. A couple of hours and 6 falls later, Yoongi tiredly yet reluctantly made his way off the ice. The tops of his skates had been digging in to his legs, he was sure his and knees were bruised from repeatedly falling, and he was absolutely exhausted, but mentally he felt alive.

As he was returning his skates to the skate hire, a beautiful boy caught Yoongi’s attention. He was tall and clearly toned, but his face was young and cute. Yoongi guessed he was one of the skating teachers, judging by how he seemed to be waiting for the rest of the participants of his lesson to arrive. Yoongi couldn't help but stare at him. The boy - man? person - was laughing with one of his coworkers as he slid on a gorgeous pair of black skates. His smile somehow reminded Yoongi of a bunny.

“Excuse me, can I take your skates?”

“Oh, right, sorry.” Yoongi snapped his head back to the employee. “Here.”

The skate hire attendant shook her head and chuckled a little as she took the skates from Yoongi, shortly returning with Yoongi’s shoes.

“Thank you.” He bowed to the employee and hurriedly left, embarrassed. He glanced back over to the rink as he put his shoes back on, and saw the same boy gliding effortlessly across the ice. Yoongi shook his head and looked away.

“You look like an idiot,” he muttered to himself under his breath, “Scratch that, you are an idiot. Ugh, let’s just get home already.”

~

The next day, Yoongi came back to the ice rink, despite still aching from his last time there. He still could barely skate, but he was nowhere near as bad as he had been to start with. As on the day before, once he finished Yoongi saw the gorgeous ice skating teacher again. The boy caught Yoongi's eye and smiled a cute smile, causing Yoongi to immediately avert his gaze, cheeks heating up slightly.

“Stop it, you're so stupid!” Yoongi said to himself, “Get a grip.”

“But did he just smile at me? His smile is so cute...”

“Agh, why are you like this. Snap out of it.”

(Luckily, no one was near enough to hear him mumbling away to himself.)

Yoongi stayed for a little while longer, to watch the boy teach. He wasn't even doing much on the ice, since it was a course for beginners, but he still looked stunning to Yoongi. All his moves seemed effortless and graceful, and the way he interacted with the kids was adorable. He just seemed so… endearing. God, what was Yoongi doing. He didn’t even know this guy’s name. If Namjoon or Hoseok found out about this he'd never hear the end of it.

Still, Yoongi wondered if he could sign up for lessons with the boy. Coming to the rink was expensive and he didn't know what he was doing in terms of learning to skate, so lessons would be useful anyway. At least that's how Yoongi reasoned it in his mind. He definitely wasn’t going to book a damn expensive course (seriously, was he paying for Brian Orser to teach him? Or Evgeni Plushenko?) just to spend time with the cute skating coach. Nope. Definitely not.

~

“I'm broke already why am I doing this…” Yoongi said as he finally gave in and booked a place on the next ‘Learn to Skate’ course. “Why does it have to be so expensive, I just want to learn how to skate, damn.”

Yoongi didn't go back to the rink until a week and a half later, when his course started. (He couldn’t afford to keep going separate to the lessons he booked.) He was looking forward to it, although he was still going alone and was most probably going to embarrass himself in front of a bunch of three year olds, not to mention the hot skating coach. That is, if he even was teaching Yoongi's course.

He was, in fact, teaching Yoongi’s course as it turned out (which was really no surprise considering how Yoongi booked the course that started at the time he had always seen him there at). Luckily there were two other older people in the course, so it wasn't just Yoongi and a bunch of little kids who would inevitably be better than him.

The first session began, with Yoongi even more awkward than usual because oh dear god this man was stunning.

“Hey guys! I’m Jungkook, nice to meet you all,” the coach - Jungkook - smiled. Everyone briefly introduced themselves to Jungkook, Yoongi struggling to get the words out coherently. (Damn it Yoongi, all you're doing is saying your name, how are you ing up this badly?)

They started with the basics, of course - how to properly position your feet, knees, arms, how to glide etc.

“Not bad, Yoongi!”

The man in question promptly lost his balance, but he managed not to fall over. Jungkook laughed, a beautiful sound that had Yoongi’s brain short-circuiting.

“He remembered my name?” Yoongi thought. “Wait, that’s his job of course he did…”

The half hour was over sooner than Yoongi wanted. He reluctantly made his way off the ice with the other people in the lesson, Jungkook following behind them all. Yoongi wanted to talk to him, but didn’t have the courage to say anything other than a “Thank you, see you next week.”

~

A week later, and Yoongi was still just as awkward. His skating was improving, but his social skills were a whole different story. Every time Jungkook smiled, he melted, and he blushed whenever Jungkook complimented his skating. This couldn’t be healthy, Yoongi thought.

“Hey, uh, I really like your skates,” Yoongi stammered out after the session, choosing to look at Jungkook’s gorgeous black blades to avoid making eye contact. Even still, he could see the adorable bunny smile that Jungkook shone him.

“Thank you! They’re still a bit new actually so I’m still trying to break them in.”

Yoongi opened his mouth, then closed it again. In the end he just nodded and awkwardly shuffled away.

“Damnit Yoongi why are you such a mess, oh my god. He probably thinks you’re nuts or something,” he, as usual, says to himself, facepalming a little.

“Hey, at least I said something though, right?”

“Wow, would you like a medal?”

The next couple of weeks flew by, until there was only one more week left of the skating course. The lessons had been the highlight of Yoongi’s weeks and he was honestly quite sad at the realisation that he was on his way to the penultimate lesson. Socially awkward and shy as he was, he still had not got Jungkook’s number, or even managed to have an Actual Conversation with him. It definitely did not help that he still got flustered every time Jungkook looked in his general direction. He was a 24 year old man for damn’s sake, he wasn't supposed to act like this.

On the other hand, his skating had significantly improved. Obviously, he was nowhere near Jungkook’s level, but he had the basics down and was a lot more confident on the ice. He still felt a sense of exhilaration every time he skated, what he could only liken to what he felt when he got a wave of inspiration for a music composition.

“Hey, Yoongi?”

Yoongi looked up, head slightly cocked to one side. “Yeah?”

“I was wondering if you, maybe, wanted to go for lunch with me? This weekend, if you're free?”

Yoongi stood in stunned silence for a moment. Jungkook wanted to go out for lunch with him?

“If you don't want to that's totally fine!” Jungkook frantically added.

“No no! I’d love to go! I mean,” Yoongi cleared his throat in an attempt to compose himself, “Sure. Where and when d’you wanna go?”

“How about you give me your number and I’ll text you?”

“Sure.” Yoongi tried to calm his racing heart as he handed over his phone to Jungkook.

He was about to leave for home after they exchanged numbers, but Jungkook stopped him again.

“Hey actually, are you free tonight? Like, now?”

“Yeah, I guess. Why?”

“Well, actually this sounds kinda boastful and showy offy now that I think about it…” Jungkook chuckled nervously, rubbing his nape, “But, um, I was just gonna ask if you wanted to stay behind, and, uh, watch-me-skate…” The last words were mumbled but Yoongi still understood.

“Are you kidding? Of course I’d love to see!”

“Oh, ok, that’s - wait what, you uh, really? You do?”

Yoongi laughed a little. “Of course I do. You’re so good.”

Jungkook was even more stunning when he was skating properly. Or at least, as properly as he could in a public rink with kids always getting in the way. Yoongi didn't even have words to describe how beautiful he looked. Although he wasn't doing any fancy jumps, the way in which he moved was enchanting.

“Come on!” Jungkook gestured towards Yoongi.

“What?”

“Skate with me.”

“But, I already gave my skates back.”

“Oh, I can get you some more then, come. What shoe size are you?”

They skated side by side, Yoongi struggling to think of anything to say to break the silence.

“Um, I haven’t paid to still be here, Jungkook.”

“I work here, it’s fine.”

“Yeah, but-”

“Yoongi, chill.”

Another moment of silence passed.

“You’re really good, you know,” Yoongi stated.

“Thank you,” Jungkook laughed shyly. “Not good enough though,” he added under his breath.

“What do you mean? You're literally amazing!”

Yoongi could sense Jungkook resist the urge to deny it, but instead Jungkook just smiled at his feet.

“Thank you for staying for so long with me. I hope you didn't get bored or anything, I basically just wasted your time…”

“No no not at all! I actually really, uh, I mean, it was fun,” Yoongi said, internally groaning at his inability to form a proper sentence. “You’re really beautiful when you skate,” Yoongi added quietly without thinking, without looking at Jungkook, but he froze as soon as the words left his mouth. He hadn’t fully intended to say that out loud. Jungkook didn’t say anything for a moment, and Yoongi couldn’t bring himself to look at his expression.

“Thank you,” Jungkook finally answered, and Yoongi finally looked up at him to see a faint pink hue dusting the skater’s cheeks, accompanying a slight smile.

Yoongi cleared his throat to clear his stupid, whipped brain. “So, um, you still want to go out for lunch later?”

“Yes, if you still want to?”

“Of course!”

“Okay, cool, I’ll text you later then. See you, I guess!”

Yoongi’s brain was in a dazed mess the whole way home. What was even going on? Did Jungkook seriously ask him out? And he actually told Jungkook he was beautiful, oh dear lord.

Group chat: ‘Hangsang with my thugs’

Joon: You know he’s whipped when he’s making that many typos lmao

Joon: Well, how did he ask you? If he meant it like a date he would probably have been a little more nervous or something

-Joon, do you really think I noticed or even remember

-I was too busy trying to figure out if it was actually happening

-My brain kinda short circuited idek

-Tbh i might have just imagined the whole thing

-But I mean,, he alsi asked me to stay after the lesson and skate with him…..

Hobi: okay first of all, gdi yoongi why are you such a Disaster Gay™️

Hobi: second, he asked you to skate with him?? *eyes emoji*

Joon: That doesn’t sound entirely platonic

Joon: And I second that, Yoongi is the definition of disaster gay

-Hey,, excuse you,,,,,

Just then, Yoongi got another notification.

Message from: Jungkook *hearts emojis*

Yoongi stared at the hearts next to the name for a moment. He hadn’t checked what Jungkook had saved his contact as in his phone. It was cute.

Jungkook *hearts*: hey! ^-^

Jungkook *hearts*: so, are you free on saturday at about 1pm? i was thinking we could go to that really nice brunch place by the park?

Jungkook *hearts*: if thats okay with you ^^

-Yes that’s fine! :)

Jungkook *hearts*: great! \(^o^)/

Yoongi typed out and deleted several more messages, but just ended up leaving it at that.

~

Saturday arrived, and Yoongi was sitting in front of an empty wardrobe, amidst a pile of clothes in Gay Panic™️.

“Bro, you okay?” Hoseok said, startling Yoongi as he hadn’t noticed him come in.

Yoongi’s only response was to groan and slowly place his head in his hands.

“Disaster gay indeed,” Hoseok muttered. “It’s just lunch right? Just wear what you normally wear. Let me see.”

Hoseok proceeded to root through the mess of clothes strewn on the floor until he found something he deemed decent.

“Man, your wardrobe literally consists of loads of the exact same shirt, what do you even wear?”

Yoongi tried to defend himself, but looking at the nearly entirely monochrome mess surrounding him, he couldn't really deny it.

“Here, just wear this or something,” Hoseok said, tossing him a shirt. “It’s just lunch, so you don’t wanna look too formal or anything.”

Yoongi hummed in response.

“Oh my god, dude, chill out. Is this like your first date or something?”

“Well, no, but it might as well be given how long ago my last one was.” Yoongi sighed. “Also, it’s with ing Jeon Jungkook how am I going to survive?” Yoongi whined, slowly planting his face on his knees.

Hoseok struggled to contain his laughter. “I so should record this.”

At that, Yoongi snapped his head up at the speed of light. “Don’t you ing dare.”

Hoseok stopped trying to control it and laughed wholeheartedly, doubling over with laughter. Yoongi threw a sock at him.

Yoongi ended up opting for a different outfit to what Hoseok suggested (no offence Hoseok. He still, however, got it Hoseok Approved™). God, he really was acting like a schoolgirl on a first date.

Jungkook wasn’t there yet when he arrived, but he only had to wait about 7 minutes (he definitely wasn’tcounting) before he appeared. He looked really good (no surprise there), if a little nervous. Both of them were dressed in black and white, except for Jungkook’s Timberland’s, but while Yoongi’s snapback was white and his shirt black, Jungkook’s beanie was black and his shirt white.

“Hey,” Yoongi finally managed out.

“Hey,” Jungkook replied.

“So…”

“Right. Should we get some food? Why am I even asking, of course we should, that’s why we’re here.”

Yoongi couldn’t help but smile. Namjoon was right, he was definitely already whipped.

Yoongi found that once they got over the initial awkwardness and nervousness and started talking, conversation flowed easily. They had a lot in common, as it turned out. He felt… comfortable with him. That isn’t to say his heart didn’t still race every time Jungkook smiled that beautiful eye smile of his, or that he didn’t blush any time Jungkook complimented him, however.

“...well, I mean, Yuzuru Hanyu already won an Olympic gold medal at 19 so,” Jungkook trailed off.

“Yeah, but that’s Yuzuru Hanyu!”

“Well, he wasn’t just born already amazing at skating.”

“Okay, okay,” Yoongi laughed.

"And Yulia was only 15."

"Jungko-"

"Sasha Trusova was like 13! When she landed two quads in her programme, the first woman to do so!"

"Jungkook."

"Okay, I'm done." He grinned, bunny smile on display. Yoongi laughed.

“Have you skated in any competitions? I mean, I don’t actually know how this figure skating stuff works but…”

“Yeah, but only in small ones. Never like, Grand Prix or World’s or anything.”

“That’s still so cool though!”

“I have one coming up actually in a couple of months. Do you, maybe, want to come?” Jungkook immediately retracted his question after asking. “Never mind, here I go again, being selfish, asking you to watch me skate again…”

“Jungkook. Of course I’ll watch you.”

“Oh my god, we should totally learn a pair skate or something some time!” Jungkook said excitedly.

“I can barely skate, Jungkook,” Yoongi laughed, “Let alone figure skate.”

“Well, I think you were pretty good.”

Yoongi felt his cheeks warm a little.

Jungkook continued, “But yeah, sorry, none of my close friends skate so I guess I just got a little excited.” Did that mean Jungkook considered him a close friend? He quickly dismissed the idea. They barely knew each other.

“It’s one thing to skate with the other people at the club,” Jungkook continued, “but I dunno, I guess I’m just not really all that close with any of them…”

After they finished eating, they wandered around town for a while, eventually stopping at a park. Surprisingly, there weren’t any kids in the playground area, so naturally they claimed the space.

“Hey, race you to the top?” Jungkook said, pointing to the pyramid shaped climbing frame.

Yoongi cocked his head to the side. “You’re on!”

“What the , how do kids climb this, the gaps are so big!” Yoongi complained as he struggled to pull himself up.

Jungkook just laughed and continued on up.

“This isn’t fair,” complained Yoongi again, “You have longer legs!”

“What’s that?” Jungkook called, “I can’t hear you from all the way up here!”

All that being said, Yoongi was barely behind Jungkook, so he only lost by a fraction. (But then again, it was a kids park so it wasn’t supposed to be difficult for two grown men to climb it.)

“Ha, I won!” Jungkook boasted once at the top, “You have to do the punishment now.”

“Excuse me, since when was there a punishment?”

“Since now.” Jungkook grinned mischievously, his tongue slightly visible between his teeth. Yoongi thought he looked so adorable, he almost already forgave whatever punishment he was going to say. “Hmm, what should your punishment be?”

“How about nothing?” Yoongi pouted.

“Nah, that’s no fun. I know! I get to tickle you!”

“What? No - ah!”

Jungkook giggled while attacking Yoongi with tickles.

“Jungkook, stop! I’m gonna fall of this damn thing and die, then what would you do?”

“Okay, okay, sorry,” Jungkook said, still giggling cutely.

They migrated to the swings after a while, occasionally talking, occasionally just swinging in content silence.

“Where do you live? I can walk you home if you like,” Jungkook offered.

“Thanks, but it’s fine. I’m older than you anyway, I should be walking you home!”

“We can walk each other home.”

“That is physically impossible, Jungkook,” Yoongi said through a smile.

“Well, we might be going the same way anyway, which way are you going?”

It turned out they were going the same way, but Yoongi’s flat came first along the way. Jungkook insisted on walking with him until his front door, which Yoongi objected to at first but finally gave in. (Not that he was mad about it of course. Quite the opposite.)

“So,” Yoongi said, reluctant to go.

“So…” Jungkook repeated.

“Today was fun.”

“I thought so too!” beamed Jungkook.

“Anyway, I should probably go…”

Jungkook looked hesitant for a moment, as if he was debating something in his mind, but he just smiled again. Yoongi had to force himself to stop staring at how adorable he looked when he smiled, nose and eyes scrunched up.

“Well, I guess I’ll see you around, Yoongi. We should, we should meet up again some time, if you want.”

“Definitely!”

Yoongi didn’t know if he should finally go inside or not. The younger boy was still standing there, with no intention of leaving. Yoongi noticed how the yellow street lights reflected in Jungkook’s eyes, making them shine prettily.

They said goodbye again, and finally Yoongi forced himself to go inside. They’d stand there forever otherwise. Jungkook stood outside Yoongi’s door a moment longer, before finally making his way home.

Yoongi stood in his entrance for what could have been a century, still in shock. Nothing much even happened, he didn’t know why he was so flustered. Thinking about it, he still didn’t even know if it was supposed to be a date or not.

He was snapped out of his thoughts by his phone buzzing.

Message from: Jungkook *hearts emojis*

“Take my hand.”

Yoongi stared at Jungkook’s outstretched hand, then up at Jungkook’s face.

“Come on!” Jungkook grabbed both of Yoongi’s hands and smoothly skated backwards, pulling Yoongi along. He lead them towards the centre of the rink in a slow circle. The rink was fairly empty at this time, which was nice - Yoongi was less worried about crashing into someone.

“See? You’re good,” Jungkook said as he and Yoongi spun around slowly.

“You’re doing all the work, I’m just being pulled along.”

“No, no, this is all you.” Jungkook smiled so bright that Yoongi was surprised it didn’t blind him. “Hey, let me show you how to do a spin.”

“Uhh, I’m not so sure-"

“Nah, relax, it’ll be fine. I’m not making you do a Biellmann’s spin or anything,” he laughed. “Just watch me.”

Jungkook made it look so easy, but when Yoongi tried, it just didn’t work.

Jungkook laughed and helped Yoongi.

“No, you have to - here - like that, yeah. See? That’s it!” Jungkook beamed proudly as Yoongi finally started to get it. Yoongi smiled back, but somehow lost his balance, and ended up falling straight into Jungkook. Miraculously, they both didn’t end up on the floor.

“S-sorry,” Yoongi said, scrambling to untangle himself from Jungkook’s arms, only to fall straight back into him in his haste. “Ah, sorry again.”

Jungkook laughed and steadied Yoongi by his shoulders. “Looks like you fell for me, huh?”

Yoongi felt himself go red, and sputtered out something incoherent.

“Just kidding, just kidding.” Jungkook let out another adorable laugh. Yoongi laughed too but couldn’t hide his blush.

The two of them finally left after a couple of hours to get something to eat, both still on a high from the rush of skating, their cheeks slightly pink from the cold (or maybe from something else.) They went to an all-you-can-eat buffet nearby and piled up their plates with meat, really taking advantage of the “all you can eat".

“Don’t you have to watch your diet? You know, with figure skating and all?” Yoongi asked jokingly.

“Well,” Jungkook said around a mouthful of food, “What’s the harm in one day of binge eating?” He laughed, covering his mouth out of politeness. “Seriously though, as long as I don’t gain too much weight, or lose muscle then it’s fine. The girls have it much harder, I think. The coaches are so strict on their diets.”

“Your coach isn’t like Eteri, right?”

Jungkook laughed. “No, thank God. Man, I really feel sorry for Eteri’s girls.”

They decided to walk off all the food after they had finished, so took to randomly wandering the streets. After walking around for a bit, they ended up back at the park they had been to on their previous… date? meetup? Whatever it was supposed to be. This time they decided to go on the bouncy-seesaw-spinny-thing, because who says parks are just for kids. Given that they were not kids, it was actually much more fun as they could get the thing to swing much higher and spin much faster.

“You sure we won’t break this?” Yoongi asked, as the spinny-seesaw-thing made some disconcerting creaking sounds.

“Nah, I’m sure it’ll be fine.”

“Push me, push me! I wanna go!” a random kid said, clearly in awe of Yoongi and Jungkook’s Mad Skillz at seesaw-ing. Yoongi hopped off, letting the small child take his spot. The kid screamed happily as Yoongi set the seesaw thing spinning, running as fast as he could with it, while Jungkook pushed his legs into the ground as hard as he could to get maximum bounce height capacity. Soon there was a little crowd of kids begging to have a go, and Yoongi and Jungkook happily indulged them, while also trying to force the Figure Skating Agenda™ on them. (“Hey kid, what do you wanna be when you’re older?” “A astronaut!” “Nah fam, what you wanna do, is become a figure skater.”)

Somehow, the pair ended up branching out to the other park equipment; pushing a little girl on a swing (“higher! higher!”), spinning the ‘witch’s hat’ swing thing as fast as they could while three kids clung to it’s net for dear life, screaming at the top of their lungs. Man, these kids’ parents must be useless .

“We should get paid for this,” Yoongi joked.

Jungkook laughed in agreement. They were both fairly out of breath from it all, so finally called it quits and bade farewell to all the little children, much to their disappointment.

“Well that’s certainly not how I expected to spend my afternoon,” Yoongi laughed.

“That was wilder than some of the ice skating lessons I teach,” Jungkook chuckled, “And I’ve had some pretty crazy kids in my courses.”

“Oh?” Yoongi prompted, curious.

“Yeah,” Jungkook smirked, “Like, you for example. Craziest student I ever had.”

“Hey!” Yoongi playfully hit Jungkook’s shoulder. Jungkook bumped into Yoongi in return. This was nice, Yoongi thought. Then it hit him again that he still didn’t know if Jungkook considered this a date. He wanted to ask to clarify, but didn’t want to ruin the mood in cass he was wrong, didn’t want to ruin whatever this was.

Jungkook was about to turn down the road where he had remembered Yoongi’s flat was, but Yoongi held onto his sleeve, preventing him.

“This time, I’m walking you home.”

Jungkook opened his mouth but then changed it to a smile instead and didn’t object. Jungkook’s apartment wasn’t too far from Yoongi’s, it turned out.

“Thank you for another great day,” Jungkook smiled.

Yoongi looked down and played with his ear. “You too. I really like spending time with you.”

Why was it always so hard to say goodbye at the end of the day? It wasn’t like they were saying goodbye forever, so why was it always awkward?

“Well, I’ll see you later then.”

Yoongi gave a last, slightly awkward, wave as Jungkook turned to go inside. The cute smile Jungkook had flashed him before doing so still burned behind Yoongi’s retinas.

“I’m so ed,” Yoongi mumbled to himself as he made his way home.

He was greeted by the sight of Namjoon and Hoseok tangled on top of each other in a very questionable position, seemingly fighting for… the TV remote.

“Uh, what the ?”

“Oh, hey Yoongi!” Hoseok said, as if he wasn’t currently squashing Namjoon’s head into the sofa with one arm, and reaching for the remote with the other. On cue, Namjoon shoved Hoseok off him and the two discarded their unnecessary squabble and the remote in favour of giving their attention to Yoongi.

“So, how was date numero dos?” Namjoon asked.

Yoongi groaned and plopped himself on the sofa in between the other two (even though there wasn’t much room, leading to him practically sitting on them). “He’s so… perfect.” Yoongi placed his face in his hands. Hoseok and Namjoon exchanged a really not subtle Look. “I don’t even know how I’m alive. He’s a literal god at skating and he’s so ridiculously funny and sweet and cute and, and have you seen him with kids? ing husband material right there.”

Hoseok raised his eyebrows while Namjoon smirked. Yoongi suddenly realised what he’d said.

“Wait-"

Namjoon cut Yoongi off. “Too late man, you already said it!”

“We all know you’re whipped for him, there’s no point even trying to pretend like you’re not.”

Yoongi groaned again and playfully smacked them both, which lead to Hoseok poking his cheek, which lead to a whole lot more playful poking and smacking until the three of them were in a strange tangled heap on the coach.

“Guys.”

“Hmm?” Namjoon and Hoseok answered in unison.

“How, how does one go about finding out whether the person he met up with considered the day a date or just a regular friend hangout, without ruining the relationship they already have?”

Hoseok laughed earning another smack from Yoongi. “I’m serious!”

“I know you are, I know you are, it’s just,” he snickered again, “why did you phrase it like that?”

“I don’t know man, just help me.” Yoongi buried his face into a cushion.

“Just ask him.” It was Namjoon who answered. “Or maybe try to initiate something? Like, maybe flirt with him and see how he reacts.”

“Joon, I have the social skills of a rock, I don’t know howto flirt.”

“Sure you do! Okay, get up, let me me give you a demonstration.”

Yoongi reluctantly removed his face from the cushion it was pressed into and sat up, watching his two best friends.

“This is how you do it,” Hoseok said. He then proceeded to grab one of Yoongi’s hands, wiggle his eyebrows and say: “Did it hurt? When you-"

Yoongi groaned and it took everything in him not to ing murder Hoseok right there, jail time be damned.

“You know what’s gonna hurt? When I -”

“Whoa whoa okay!” Namjoon cut him off, completely failing at stifling his laughter. “Let me show you how it’s done.”

Yoongi rolled his eyes, only to roll them harder when Namjoon said: “Hey baby, are you a parking ticket? Cuz you’ve got ‘fine’ written all over you.”

Hoseok lost it and fell to the floor laughing.

“I swear to god, why am I even friends with you?” Yoongi tried to keep up his annoyed façade but eventually gave in and laughed along as the other two continued to spew out the corniest pick up lines.

“Are your parents thieves? Because someone stole all the stars from the galaxy and put them in your eyes.”

Yoongi groaned and without thinking said: “He literally ing does though,” which only lead to louder laughter from the other two.

Despite the ‘flirting training’, if you could call it that, from his two best friends, Yoongi continued to act the same way as he had been with Jungkook. They met up several more times, each one just as fun as the last, with Yoongi becoming more and more whipped for the younger boy. Some of their interactions could be seen as romantic, but Yoongi didn’t want to give himself false hope, and he still hadn’t spoken to Jungkook about it. But when Jungkook did certain things, like when he told him Yoongi’s eyes were pretty, like when he didn’t let go of Yoongi’s hands even once the last time they skated together, like when he blushed when Yoongi accidentally called him cute… Yoongi didn’t want to assume anything  Maybe Jungkook was just very friendly, he could be like that with everyone. But still, he couldn’t help but think, feel, that maybe, just maybe...

“So, my ice show is next week, do you want to come?” Jungkook asked as they walked. It was Jungkook’s turn to walk Yoongi home. As if they were taking turns, Yoongi smiled internally.

“As I said last time, of course I’m gonna come!”

Jungkook smiled happily. Their hands brushed together but instead of acting on it, Yoongi panicked and recoiled his hand. He regret not taking Jungkook’s hand in his, but was also afraid to.

“Oh, would it be okay if my friends come? I may have mentioned you to them and they’re curious to see real ice skating and stuff.”

“Sure, they can! Um, I’d like to meet them too, if they want to.”

Yoongi laughed, imagining how excited Hoseok would be to finally meet the boy Yoongi keeps raving on about. Namjoon would too, but he’s less… explosive in his emotions. “They’d definitely like to meet you.”

They arrived at Yoongi’s door, as usual, to both of their disappointment.

“Well, good luck with preparing for the show! I’m sure you’ll be amazing.” Yoongi smiled encouragingly.

Jungkook returned the gesture. “Thank you! If you’re there, I’m sure I can do well.”

Yoongi blushed at the sudden statement. “I-I…”

Jungkook laughed softly, a giggle really. It had Yoongi weak.

“I should go. I look forward to seeing you at the show next week!”

“I can’t wait!” And Yoongi meant it. It would be the first time he would see Jungkook skating completely properly, the rink to himself for three minutes, the right music playing for his programme, as opposed to the random dance tracks they normally play at the rink.

“I’m so excited go finally meet the love of your life, Yoons!” Hoseok exclaimed.

“He’s not - never mind. You better be normal around him, and don’t you dare say anything about my crush.”

“More like infatuation really. Obsession,” Namjoon pointed out. “Really, I’d just say you’re head over heels in love with the guy.”

Yoongi scowled at him. “Not. Helping.”

Namjoon laughed and booped Yoongi’s nose, effectively getting rid of the scowl.

“Don’t worry, we would never do anything.”

“I know.” Yoongi did, know. He would trust those two with pretty much anything. His whole life even.

They arrived at the rink and claimed the best seats they could get. Yoongi looked around to find Jungkook, but couldn’t see him. He was probably warming up or preparing or something. Finally they announced that the show was about to start. Yoongi was feeling nervous, for some reason. Hoseok sensed it and placed a comforting hand on his knee.

“He’s gonna be fine,” he assured him.

Jungkook wasn’t on until the second half anyway.

The other skaters were good, but Yoongi felt like he was holding his breath until finally, it was Jungkook. Jungkook took his position at the centre, assuming his starting pose, as the beginning notes on a piano sounded over the speakers.

Yoongi was captivated from the first moments. Literally. Yuzuru Hanyu who? He only knew Jeon Jungkook. His black costume sparkled as he moved, and his embroidered black skates were even more gorgeous now that they were being used. He watched as Jungkook gracefully skated around the rink, coming into a spin and - holy crap, Jungkook could do a perfect Biellmann spin. He was absolutely beautiful to watch. His first jumps were amazing, but he stumbled coming out of a triple axel. Yoongi leaned forward in his seat, tugging his bottom lip between his teeth. Jungkook recovered quickly, however, and finished off his programme beautifully.

The show ended after a few more skaters, but Yoongi’s mind was still thinking of Jungkook. He registered Namjoon and Hoseok speaking but didn’t hear what they were saying. He located Jungkook and as quickly as he could, pushed through the crowd to get to him, his two friends in tow. Jungkook was talking and laughing animatedly to two other men, one of whom had bright orange hair and a warm smile, the other tall with tan skin and a box-shaped smile. Jungkook spotted Yoongi and waved him over.

“Yoongi, hi! These are my friends, Jimin and Taehyung,” Jungkook introduced them respectively. Yoongi distractedly greeted them but was transfixed by Jungkook’s appearance, because hot damn. His hair was disheveled and his face was sweaty, but Yoongi could see he was wearing a bit of eyeliner and eyeshadow that he hadn’t noticed from in the audience. But what had his attention the most was the exposed skin of one of Jungkook’s shoulders. Yoongi didn’t know how he didn’t notice that before, but his costume had only one sleeve; the other side faded into sequins. Technically, it wasn’t exposed: the sequins were attached to skin coloured material, but the effect was the same.

“This is Namjoon and Hoseok,” Yoongi finally introduced, snapping out of his trance.

“Jungkook! We’ve heard so much about you!” Hoseok started and Yoongi cringed. Jimin and Taehyung shared a look. “You were amazing, by the way!”

“Ah, thank you,” Jungkook said bashfully, rubbing his nape.

Namjoon agreed. “You were! I don’t know a thing about skating, but you looked incredible.”

Yoongi opened his mouth to say something, but now that he was there, no words came out.

“We’ll give you two some privacy,” Jimin said, smirking. He grabbed Taehyung’s arm and pulled him away, motioning for Namjoon and Hoseok to do the same.

“You were…” Yoongi struggled to think of the right word, “You were breathtaking.” Yoongi said it so quietly he wasn’t sure Jungkook would hear. (He did.)

Jungkook looked at his shoes. “Ah, but I was a bit sloppy, I nearly fel -"

“It doesn’t matter, you were perfect!” Yoongi cut him off. “Really, you were… you’re incredibly stunning, you know that?” Yoongi didn’t know what he was saying, but he kept going. “You’re so beautiful, and you skate so well. I don’t care if you’re not at the level of international competitive skaters because you’re already so amazing and perfect. Even if you didn’t skate at all, you’re just, perfect.”

Yoongi suddenly couldn’t look Jungkook in the eye. He pretended to be extremely interested in Jungkook’s skates (which he was, to be fair), but Jungkook put a finger under his chin and tilted his head up. He looked Yoongi in the eye as he said “thank you", and Yoongi wasn’t sure why but he held his breath. They were so close already, and Yoongi couldn’t help but glance at Jungkook’s lips. But it wasn’t Yoongi who leaned in closer, it was Jungkook. Jungkook who finally closed the gap between them and placed their lips together in a gentle kiss. Yoongi forgot all about the people around them, about his friends standing just a few meters away. All he could think was Jungkook was kissing him. Jeon Jungkook was kissing him. He let himself melt into the kiss while both his brain and heart were doing all kinds of flips. He was sure his heart was attempting the infamous quad axel. Jungkook pulled away and Yoongi immediately enveloped him in a hug, not caring that he was sweaty. They were somewhat conscious of their friends cheering obnoxiously from the sidelines, but decided to ignore them and stay in their own world for just a little longer.

“You know, the perfect one here really is you, not me,” Jungkook said.

Yoongi’s already flushed cheeks tinted darker. He opened his mouth to deny it but Jungkook cut him off.

“You’re not allowed to say all those nice things to me that I definitely don’t deserve, if I can’t say nice stuff to you.”

Yoongi laughed. “No, you definitely do deserve them.”

“And so do you! See?”

Yoongi laughed again. He couldn’t remember the last time he was this happy. Everything was perfect. Jungkook was perfect, this moment was perfect,

“You’re perfect,” Jungkook repeated. Yoongi smiled and accepted it this time. Jungkook planted a quick kiss on his cheek, which had Yoongi smiling even wider.

“Come on, I think we should get back to our friends,” Jungkook suggested.

Yoongi shook his head. “Uh-uh, they’re gonna just tease us. I’d rather stay here with just you,” he whined like a kid, mostly joking.

Jungkook laughed and cooed at Yoongi’s sudden cute outburst. They went over to the others anyway, smiling like idiots in love because well, they were.

“Do I hear wedding bells?” Jimin joked.

“Ooh! Can I be your best man?” Taehyung jumped up and down like a kid.

“No, I’m gonna be his best man!” Jimin argued.

“Are they always like this?” Yoongi asked Jungkook as the pair continued to bicker.

“Pretty much,” he laughed.

The walk home was fun, with all six of them. Jungkook had changed back into regular clothes, but in Yoongi’s honest opinion, he looked just as good in whatever he was wearing. (But the eye makeup was definitely a good look on him. Really good.) At some point, he took Jungkook’s hand in his. The younger boy looked at their entwined hands in surprise but then smiled and squeezed Yoongi’s hand. Yoongi probably looked like an idiot given how much he was grinning.

They were a rowdy bunch, and as much as Yoongi tended to prefer quiet, he really didn’t mind. Hoseok and Jimin had immediately hit it off with each other, with them both being interested in dance and all. (And with then both being literal sunshine just repackaged as a human.) They reached Yoongi’s flat, and after they’d all exchanged numbers and social media and whatnot, Hoseok and Namjoon went inside. Yoongi decided he’d accompany Jungkook to his flat. It was his turn after all.

Yoongi said goodbye to the hyperactive duo that were Jimin and Taehyung, who went inside before Jungkook, leaving him and Yoongi alone.

“Just to clarify, are we dating now?” Yoongi asked because he honestly couldn’t stand not being fully certain amy longer. Even though they’d kissed, he still needed to know for sure.

“To be honest I’d hoped we’d been dating since I first asked you to lunch,” Jungkook chuckled.

“So you did consider those dates!”

Jungkook laughed loudly. “We’re hopeless.”

“No, we’re perfect.” And it was so cheesy, Yoongi knew, but it was also perfect.

He leant up on his tiptoes just enough to kiss Jungkook goodbye, and Jungkook kissed him again when Yoongi started to pull away, one of his hands gripping the back of Yoongi’s thigh. He didn’t want it to end, but he did have to go at some point or another. They kissed one more time (for luck) and then Jungkook cupped Yoongi’s face and kissed his nose, before Yoongi finally left for home. Yoongi couldn’t stop smiling and started literally skipping with happiness once he was around the corner (and he may or may not have let out a very unmanly squeal), because dignity be damned, he was ing ecstatic and everything was perfect.
