It Started With A Wedding

It Started With A Kiss

The beauty of seeing your best friend walk down the aisle didn't come from the stunning wedding gown she wore or the detailed perfection of her make-up and hair. Rather, it was that look on her face as she looks up from her bouquet.

Even the strongest women cry, he thought.

It was breathtaking to see such tears blur the undeniable happiness in her eyes. It matched the wide smile that he almost wanted to laugh at. It was odd watching her try to stifle that big, idiotic grin on her face.

So he sent her a small smile, reminding her there was no need to withhold her feelings because it was her day.

And she did. She even rolled her eyes playfully before she returned that joyous smile.

And she took a step, and again, and again... until she was an arm's length.

He reached forward to press a soft kiss against her cheek and to murmur quietly, "this is the beginning of forever."

As if he magically destroyed the wall barricading her emotions, she emitted a small breathless yelp. She really was holding everything in.

He couldn't help but laugh at it, short and sweet as they proceeded with the ceremony.

This was it. Everything she ever wanted was finally in front of her. She'd never tell but he knew it well. She always, always dreamed of her own family- one she'd promise to love and to cherish forever no matter what it would cost her.

And though everybody promised that, he knew her well enough to know that she'd die trying her hardest.

Staring at her at the moment must have frozen time for him. He couldn't help but bask in her presence while drowning out everything else that wasn't her.

Years had passed and he still possessed these intense feelings for her just as she could still take his breath away so effortlessly.

They've grown up together since high school. They've shared a lot of things since then.

When his parents passed away, she had shared his sorrows. She had opened her arms and lent her strength for him to use when he had to face his siblings. When he needed to support his only family, she was always the first to extend her help.

She was also there for all the happiness and the celebrations. When his youngest sister had turned older, she was first to greet the child and made extra effort to cook. When the second youngest entered Midle School, she was the one who kept him up to date with the boy's competitions. And when the second oldest had struggled in school, she pried it out of the teen's mouth and helped him.

When he graduated, she was there. When he got a job, she celebrated with them. And when he got promoted, she cheered for him.

For every milestone after he lost his parents, she'd always been there. Always.

And while back then, his feelings were only for admiration, he slowly came to terms that he had been urging to explore something more when it came to her.

Slowly but surely, feelings budded.

Now, he smiled, she was here- standing so beautifully in a gown that must have cost some money. But he didn't even mind that single detail (and how it goes against what he believed and would have probably told her off for). It was worth it seeing her in it.

Words were exchanged, rings were gifted. There was nothing more perfect than this moment.

"Jang Wooyoung, you may kiss the bride."

Except maybe if he were the groom.
