Running Away
Cry Out With My Heart and Soul
I kept my tank at the speed limit (more or less… most definitely more) until we left the town, and then we started backtracking to the No-Name Town, going impossibly fast down the long stretch of road.
It hadn't taken us entirely too long to get to Gregorsville from the other town, so at the speed we were going, it would take even less time. The only thing I was worried about was my gas tank. I glanced at it and it turns out, I had about 1/8 a gallon left. . Oh well. The town was on the horizon and upon seeing it, I jammed my foot even farther down onto the petal. My heart was hammering inside my chest and I just hoped no one was crossing the street.
We entered the town going about 115 mph. "Hold on to something." I told Yesung. He grabbed Wookie from the back and grasped the dashboard, knuckles white and eyes wide. I made the damn sharpest turn you have ever seen in your life and ended up coming to a very sudden halt behind Pete's. Jesse Belle opened the back door and hurried us inside, apparently having seen us in the front. The three of us peeked out to the back from the window, our heads barely visible.
Henry came charging in seconds later so fast that he couldn't stop without hitting my car. My beautiful, shiny, red, convertible car. I let out a whimper and Yesung grabbed my hand and squeezed it. Then he got out a baseball bat from his car and began to beat on my beautiful car. That bastard. Jesse Belle motioned for us to back away from the window and follow her. "You're gonna have to run." She said. "Run as fast and as far as you can. That man's dangerous. He came in here a few hours ago looking for you two and he had a trackin' device in his hand. I told him y'all were probably in Gregorsville by now and he left and sped down that road almost as fast as y'all came in. Who is he, anyway?"
I didn't see any point in lying to her, so I just said, "My ex."
"Well, no offense to ya, Wookie, but you have got bad taste in men. 'Cept for Yesung here." I blushed. "Speakin' of, Yesung, how you gonna run with that there dog in your hands? He's just gonna slow ya down!"
"You're right." Yesung said sadly.
Jesse Belle motioned for him to give Ewok to her. "I'll take care of him until y'all get the chance to come back and get him, alright?" Yesung nodded and began handing her the dog when the door slammed open and Henry walked in with a pistol.
And then do you know what that bastard did? He shot Ewok. Inches away from Yesung's hand, Henry shot Ewok. Shocked, Yesung dropped him and then bent over him. "Ewok!" He screamed.
I grabbed his hand and yanked him up, pulling him to the front door. "There's no time! We have to get out of here!" Henry began shooting after us, making customers scream as glass broke.
Carol motioned for us to run to the Bed and Breakfast. "Borrow Harvey's car." She said as she tossed me the keys. "He hasn't used it in years." I nodded as we jumped in the car and began racing down the road. Henry was right on top of us.
"Damn! This car's older than dirt!" I slapped the dashboard as if it would make the car go faster, preferably over 100. Instead, it stayed at 95, which, granted, was fast, but I needed faster.
"Wookie, he's gaining!" Yesung said through tears.
"!" There was nothing around us, now, but wasteland. Harvey's car moaned and complained as I edged it further.
"Wookie…"
"What?!"
"The battery is almost dead.."
Damn. He was right. Beads of sweat popped up on our foreheads as the car began slowing down. " . No no no this can't be happening!!" I swerved off the side of the road where Harvey's car stopped in the ditch by the side of the road. Yesung and I dove for the doors. I got out of the car just as Henry stopped on the road.
"Wookie, I'm stuck! The door won't open!" I reached inside the car and pulled him out clumsily. As soon as we both regained our balance, we started sprinting.
