Under the Mistletoe

Jihyo’s lips formed into a smile the moment her eyes landed on the food in front of her. She had struggled to make her way towards the kitchen, wondering why Jeongyeon decided to invite nearly the whole school to her party. She scanned the table and once she found the pizza she reached out to grab a slice, however before she could pick it up, Jeongyeon grabbed her hand and began dragging her away. “Jeongyeon what are you are doing? Where are you taking me?”

She looked back at the pizza, her lips forming into a pout as the distance between her and the food grew bigger. All she wanted to do was stuff herself with food at this Christmas party whilst occasionally conversing with the people she knew. “It’s a secret,” Jeongyeon replied as she turned to face Jihyo with a mischievous smile.

Jihyo had seen this look before and she knew that whatever followed was never good, “If this is some prank that you’re trying to pull on me then you have another thing coming.” She tries to release herself from Jeongyeon’s grip but the shorthaired girl is holding her with all her strength, making sure that she doesn’t escape.

After a few more attempts she decides on giving up and letting Jeongyeon take her to wherever she plans on bringing her. Jeongyeon’s eyes land on two people who are on the other side of the room, both currently in the same situation as they are and her smile immediately turns into a smirk. Jeongyeon stops walking the moment they reach their destination, she places her hands on Jihyo’s arms and moves the younger girl so that she’s standing in front of her.

“Jeong just tell me what is going on?” Jihyo asks once more before she scans the area around her, checking for any obvious signs that she was being set up for something. “It’s a secret,” Jeongyeon replies, “Just wait here. You’ll thank me later,” she continues before quickly making her leave. Before Jihyo could reply, the taller girl had disappeared, leaving her by herself.

She pursed her lips, trying to think of all the reasons why Jeongyeon had dragged away from the kitchen. Jihyo’s thoughts were soon interrupted by a familiar voice, “Momo where are you bringing me?” Jihyo turns her body to face the direction of the sound, eyes widening slightly when she notices Mina heading towards her.

“You’ll thank me later,” Jihyo scratches her head at the familiarity of those four words, trying to think of what Jeongyeon had planned. “Jihyo?” a soft voice pulls her out of her thoughts and she turns around to face the younger girl. “Mina,” she replies with a hint of excitement in her voice and Jihyo hopes that Mina hadn’t picked up on it.

However the smirk on Momo’s face says otherwise, causing her to blush softly in response. “The moment that I’m gone, I need you guys to look up. Good luck!” with those words Momo disappears, leaving the two girls alone.

Jihyo looks up slowly, feeling slightly worried after hearing Momo’s words since whatever her and Jeongyeon have set up probably won’t be good. Her eyes widen slightly at the sight of the mistletoe hanging above her and Mina. The older girl was expecting there to be something else yet at the same time the sight of the mistletoe doesn’t surprise Jihyo.

She looks back down to find Mina still has her gaze fixed on the mistletoe and Jihyo wonders what the younger girl is thinking. “We don’t have to kiss, we can just talk instead,” Jihyo’s loud voice broke the silence between them. Jihyo’s had a crush on Mina for a long time so she was a little bit thankful that Jeongyeon and Momo had planned this out.

Yet at the same time she didn't want the younger girl doing something she didn't want to so Jihyo decided to direct the conversation somewhere else. “There are 1,300 different species of mistletoe in the world if you didn’t know, that’s pretty cool.”

Jihyo tried thinking of more mistletoe facts and once she did she would immediately tell the younger girl. “Also mistletoe is poisonous so watch out for that, you don’t want to be getting sick,” she said before an awkward laugh escaped her lips.

She wasn’t sure how long she had spoken for but Jihyo was beginning to feel like she was bothering Mina so she decided to think of an excuse to leave the younger girl whilst voicing more mistletoe facts.

Mina just listened as Jihyo spoke, she couldn’t find the right timing to interrupt the older girl, but Jihyo paused to take a break and Mina thought it was the right time. “Mistletoe is an evergreen pest that attaches itself to trees, plants and shrubs, stealing their nutrients and water,” Mina just listened as Jihyo spoke, she could, she couldn’t find the right timing to interrupt the older girl.

The moment Jihyo paused to take a break; Mina thought it was the right time. “Jihyo,” her soft voice cut the older girl off, she could tell that Jihyo had been trying to not make the situation anymore awkward and somehow that made Mina love the girl just a little bit more.

“Yeah,” the younger girl didn’t respond and Jihyo thought that maybe she was being weird and talking a bit too much but she was wrong. Mina grabbed Jihyo’s shoulders gently and swiftly pulled her closer so that she could capture the older girl’s lips with her own. Their kiss lasted for a few seconds before the younger girl quickly pulled away.

“You talk too much,” Mina teased and Jihyo couldn’t help but blush in embarrassment. Her hands were now wrapped around the younger girl’s waist, resting her hands on the younger girl’s back. “You know I always imagined that I would be the one to initiate our first kiss,” Jihyo could feel her cheeks heating up after what she had said, especially since Mina was looking at her with a grin on her face.

“Really? Is that a confession?” Mina teased again, her heart was already racing because of Jihyo’s words and their kiss but she was trying her best not to give herself away. The older girl didn’t want to be the only one embarrassed, “Yes it is,” she said and judging by the younger girl’s cheeks she knew that she had caught the girl off guard.

Mina’s heart raced even faster now and she couldn’t help but look away in embarrassment, she hadn’t been expecting the older girl to reply so boldly. She decided to keep quiet, unsure of how to respond. Jihyo figured the younger girl was too embarrassed so she decided to confess her feelings properly, “I like you Mina.”

The younger girl cheeks darkened even more and she was so sure that Jihyo was trying to kill her with her words. Jihyo couldn’t help but give a small smile at Mina’s reaction; it was nice to see the girl blushing because of her. “Can I kiss you again?” Mina’s voice was quiet but Jihyo could still make out what she had said.

This time it was Jihyo’s turn to blush, she had thought that the girl would tell her she liked her as well but it was a nice surprise. Her smile grew bigger, “Please do,” she replied and with that the younger girl leaned in and captured her lips once again. Mina smiled into the kiss whilst she wrapped her arms around Jihyo’s neck, she couldn’t believe that the older girl had returned her feelings, she didn’t want to forget this feeling.

After a while the younger girl pulled away but only enough so that the foreheads were touching, “I like you too,” she said quietly, only so that Jihyo would be the one to hear her. The older girl was about to reply but the moment was ruined with the sound of Jihyo's stomach grumbling, Mina couldn't help but giggle.

"Seems like someone's hungry," she teased and Jihyo hid her head in Mina's neck in embarrassment, wondering why her stomach just had to grumble right now. Jihyo can only nod her head slowly as her cheeks turned red and the younger girl couldn't help but smile at how adorable the older girl was being. She unwraps her arms from around Jihyo’s neck and grabs one of her hands, immediately intertwining their fingers.

Jihyo doesn’t say anything and just lets Mina drag her to the kitchen whilst tightening her hold. She doesn’t want to let go of the younger girl especially now that they’ve confessed to each other. Mina lips form into a smile at the action and she blushes again, she decides to focus her gaze in front of her as she weaves through the crowd and following the scent of the food.
