The Intern's First Day
My InspirationYeri skipped towards my room, the place I taught the majority of my classes. I chuckled at her playfulness.
"She's a cute kid, right?" I asked Mina, walking toward the room with her right behind me.
"She's adorable." I heard Mina giggle a little bit.
"Hurry up!" I heard the kid shout from my room. I jogged the rest of the way; Yeri had already plugged her phone into the speaker, playing "That's What I Like" by Bruno Mars.
"Yeri, why this one?" I groaned. The choreography was a little bit...hm...it's not really something I feel all that comfortable performing in front of Mina.
"Just do it! I'll start it over from the beginning. I believe in you!" Yeri clapped, picking up her phone.
"Can we please do something different? Please, Yeri?" My begging went unanswered, as Yeri started the song from the beginning. I sighed, knowing when I was beat. It was very technical, but I also knew why Yeri wanted me to do it in front of Mina. The beginning went well, but I had to mentally prepare myself for the bridge...and here we go, on the floor, and a little bit of pelvis-to-floor action, and I was back up. Hard part's over. ual connotations gone (to those who don't know English very well). When I was done, I turned and saw a very red face. Obviously not from Yeri, who jumped on me while cheering my name.
"Yeah! That's my unnie!" She cheered, while Mina clapped awkwardly. I chuckled.
"Good job. That's really...really good." She said quietly.
"You see why I told this kid 'no', right?" She nodded in response. "Alright, kiddo, let's change the mood in here. I wanna see how you're doing on Red Velvet stuff."
"Okay!" She chirped. "I'm gonna do Peek-a-Boo." She grinned, changing the song. I nodded, sitting on the floor next to Mina. The song started, and Yeri danced her little heart out. There were a couple mistakes, but she had just learned the dance this morning with her friends. "Sorry, there were a few mess-ups." She rubbed the back of her neck.
"You just learned that this morning, Yeri. I think I'd make a few mistakes, too." I patted her head.
"She learned that this morning?!" Mina gasped. "And you aren't even in high school yet..."
"What did I say? These kids are as hard-working as anyone could hope for." I chuckled, enjoying the praise that Yeri recieved.
"Thank you." Yeri was still a little stiff towards Mina. "Unnie, we should show Mina what we learned last week!" She jumped around me in a circle.
"The trio with Seul?" I chuckled. "Shouldn't we wait for her?" I chuckled.
"Fine." Yeri pouted, and sat down.
"We learned 'Do You?' last week in class...do you remember that one?" I asked.
"Yep!" She jumped up. "I'll put the song on!" Mina laughed at how excited Yeri was.
"And this will be your first test, intern." I chuckled. She looked at me in shock. "Try and learn it. We'll run it three times, okay Yeri? Then you gotta dance with us, Myoui."
"Let's go!" Yeri punched the air and settled into the space next to me, leaving plenty of space for us. The song started, and Yeri and I were fairly in-sync.
"Hips, Yeri!" I reminded her, as her hip movements weren't as "seductive" as the choreography called for. Immediately, she rolled her hips more strongly, but more smoothly as well. "Little bit more bounce, girl." She seemed a little bit stiffer than normal, possibly because of Mina's presence. I didn't have to remind her of anything after that, as she had nailed all of the remaining moves...other than slipping a little when we lowered ourselves onto the floor, but I couldn't blame her. She was young, and probably wasn't doing this dance as often as she was preparing dance covers. "Good run, kiddo!" I patted her head.
"Thanks, Momo!" She grinned. "I'm just a little stiff...I stretched this morning when I came in, but I didn't stretch any more after that."
"Aww, why didn't you stretch? Dork." I heard Mina giggle as I flicked the young dancer's forehead playfully. "You're gonna tear a muscle or something." I turned to Mina. "Intern! Make yourself useful and show Yeri some stretches. I'm gonna grab water for the two of us, unless you want some, too?"
"O-Oh, I will. I'll be okay without water for now, thank you." Mina stood up and went over to Yeri, where they started stretching by touching their toes...and by toes, I mean seeing how flexible they were by touching as much of the floor as possible. Silly Yeri was just testing Mina. I left, grabbing two cups and filling them with water. Mina was so perfect, honestly. It was such an honor to see a girl as beautiful as her looking at me through the mirror. She may have been checking me out, too, during "Do You?" with Yeri. I think I noticed her eyes travelling up and down my legs...whether that was to get to know the footwork or to get to know my , I may never know. I filled both cups, then went back to the practice room, pushing the door open with my foot. "Oh, I could've gotten the door for you." Mina was doing the splits on the floor with Yeri, and they were leaning on opposite sides, touching their toes. They switched sides when I sat down, putting Yeri's cup of water next to her, and taking a sip of my own. When they were done stretching, I helped Yeri up, and we started the second run of "Do You?". Yeri was far more limber this time around, and also the third time around.
"Okay, come on up here, intern." I called Mina up to dance next to Yeri and I. "Do you have any questions?"
"I just want to defend myself before I mess up horribly." She giggled. "I'm a ballerina, and I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of dance."
"Excuses." I laughed. Yeri put the song back on, and Mina had a decent grip on the choreography. It wasn't nearly as good as Yeri's ability, but she had watched the dance three times, and hadn't practiced it yet. She actually did better than I was expecting.
"I'll say it again, I've been a ballerina all my life." She chuckled.
"Hey, that wasn't as bad as I was expecting you to be, though. Nice work, Mina." She blushed red at my words, and looked at the ground.
"Thanks." She mumbled. She was so adorable when she was shy like this. It made me want to grab her face and kiss her and- calm down, Momo. She's an intern.
"How old are you, Mina?" Yeri spoke to Mina first for once.
"Ah, I'm twenty-one." She spoke shyly. Well, this was good. I can't get arrested if something romantic happens between us. "I'm a dance major at the arts university thirty minutes from here."
"I see." I couldn't hide my smile. "Well, you passed your first test, so congrats." I used the
