Waking up

Substitute Driver

He awakened from a deep sleep when the need to pee overrode his drunken sleep and stumbled to the bathroom and splashed water on his face before he positioned himself in front of the toilet and emptied his overfull bladder. A quick look in the mirror as he washed his hands then brushed his teeth showed a slightly swollen face from the countless bottles of soju he'd drank the night before. He couldn't remember anything from the moment he'd stepped out into the cool night air to wait for the substitute driver he'd called to drive his drunk home. Clearly he'd made it safely home and a glance at his alarm clock as he left his room told him it was late morning. His work week had been brutal and the promise of a free weekend had made him go out to celebrate last night. As he walked down the hallway to his living room he smelled fresh coffee and bread toasting. His forehead furrowed in confusion as he saw the back of the  tall man that stood in front of his stove.

“Excuse me?”, Minwoo called out, his body in a defensive pose as the man turned around. His face was vaguely familiar but Minwoo couldn't put a name to it.

“Well, good morning, Mr. Lee”, the man said with a grin. Minwoo tried to figure out who he was and then he saw a jacket on the chair by the living doorway. It had the name of the driving company he'd called last night on a patch on the back.

“What are you doing here?”, Minwoo said as he ran a hand through his hair to try and tame it.

“You were pretty trashed when I picked you up last night. I decided I should probably stay and make sure you were okay”, the taller man said as he went to pour a cup of coffee and brought it to Minwoo. Minwoo took it warily and smelled it before he took a drink.

“I must have been, I don't even remember you picking me up.” Minwoo walked to the couch and sat down and took a healthy drink of the strong black coffee. The tall man, whose name Minwoo didn't even know, sat a short distance from him on the long couch.

“I've been up for a while but I figured it would be polite to hang around and make sure you were okay. I slept in that chair by the hallway in case you got sick during the night”, the driver said as he leaned back against the couch and looked at Minwoo out of the corner of his eye.

“I hope you don't mind that I used your kitchen and made something to eat”, the unnamed man said with a grin.

“I smelled it when I was coming out here”, Minwoo said as he turned his body to take a better look at the man beside him. He was exceptionally handsome and his lithe form showed that he took care of his body. Next to him, in his wrinkled clothes from the night before, Minwoo felt like a bum and reached up to try and tame his bedhead.

“I'll make you some toast if you want”, the other man said and stood up gracefully and padded to the kitchen in bare feet. Well worn jeans covered his long legs and empathized his tight and Minwoo couldn't help but stare.

“Do you want butter on it or just plain?”, the man, whose name was Eric, asked Minwoo as he pulled two slices of bread out of an open loaf on the counter and popped them into the toaster. Minwoo got up and went to join him and leaned against the counter as the toast cooked.

“I'm sure you told me your name when you drove me home but”, Minwoo said with a sheepish grin, “I'd like to thank you by name for getting me home last night.”

“It's Eric” the tall man said and reached out to shake Minwoo's hand. His large hand enveloped Minwoo's completely and the smaller man smiled.

“Thank you for making sure my drunk got home safely, Eric”, he said with a smile that crinkled his already small eyes.

“And carried your drunk up three flights of stairs because the elevator was out”, Eric said with a chuckle as he reached for the toast that had just popped up.

He thought of the night before when the smaller man had been on his back as he carried him upstairs and he couldn't help but remember the feel of his body and the smell of his cologne, stronger than the scent of booze. He'd put him in bed and covered him up and waited a while before heading into the living room to crash on the couch. Minwoo had been his last call of the night and instead of the long cab ride back to the office and the drive home, he had decided to sleep here and be out before the other man was awake. But the man had looked adorable all sleep wrinkled and he'd decided to hang out a bit longer.

Minwoo grabbed the toast from him and started to eat it, crumbs falling on his shirt. One stuck to his full lower lip and Eric’s eyes were drawn to it. Minwoo's lips looked soft and warm and Eric wondered how it would feel to kiss them. Minwoo noticed him looking and stepped a little closer.

“What? Do I have something on my face?”, he said as he swallowed.

“Um… a crumb, just there”, Eric said and pointed at his lips. Minwoo reached up and swiped his thumb across his own lips but managed to miss it.

“Did I get it?”, Minwoo asked as he smiled at Eric.

Eric could feel the smaller man's body heat and felt his own temperature rise a little as he shook his head no. Minwoo swiped again and missed.

“Let me”, Eric said in a soft voice as he reached out to wipe the crumb away. Minwoo stepped closer and grabbed Eric's arm, the toast forgotten in his other hand. He went up on his toes and in the blink of an eye, pressed his own lips to Eric's. The kiss startled Eric but only for a moment as he slid his arm around Minwoo's waist and pulled the other man against him. He could taste coffee, toast and a hint of toothpaste as his tongue explored the smaller man's mouth. Minwoo relaxed against him and let the toast fall from his hand as he deepened the kiss.

The feel of Minwoo's lips against his own made Eric's heart race and blood race to his face. He blushed and pulled away to look at Minwoo.

“I…I…. I think I got the crumb this time”, he said, to which Minwoo replied with a soft laugh.

“I think I got a few on my shirt too….. why don't you come help me get those too?”

A stunned Eric was led to the bedroom where Minwoo proceeded to push him down on the bed and together they cleaned up all the crumbs from Minwoo's messy eating habits.
