Chapter 1 : Welcome to your new home.

Can I Bite You? (Twilight W1 FF)

In Olympic Peninsula of northwest Washington state, a small town named Forks was almost constantly covered with heavy clouds, marking this place as the one with the greatest amount of rain in the US.

Having this kind of reputation, the main road was usually empty even in the late afternoon on Monday, making the lonely Ferrari GTC4Lusso to stand out even more. Going all the way from the small airport in Port Angeles, the stylish grey car didn't slow down even for a moment, always keeping the maximum speed but never crossing the limit. This meant only two things - not only was the driver of this car quite rich, but he also had excellent driving skills - and Edward Cullen certainly fitted both criteria for sure.

The Ferrari quickly passed the welcome-to-Forks sign and after some time and many trees, Edward Cullen finally slowed down when few familiar houses started to appear.

"Jinyoung, do you see the house with white wooden siding?" Edward asked excitedly as he pointed to his left side and the eyes of a young small-faced boy, who was sitting at the back seat, hesitantly followed the direction of Edward's index finger. "This is your grandfather's place. He called yesterday and said that he couldn't wait to see you. He is going to stop by later in the evening and also the Denalis should show up today."

Even though Edward's first remark about the town, that he personally cherished so much, was only met with Jinyoung's polite nod and awkward silence, he could clearly hear the mind of this little boy screaming with vivid anxiety and dark thoughts. In most cases, Edward would try to drown out these voices by focusing on his own thoughts, but Jinyoung's case was different. He was special to him - in many ways.

Does he live well without me? My dear grandpa... Maybe I shouldn't have left him alone in Seoul... Can he take care of himself while I am gone? He should have enough money since Edward has been sending them every month, right? He is better off without me anyway, who knows when I would lose my control... Now, I just have to get used to how the things are now...

Edward couldn't help but glanced worriedly in the rear-view mirror. It had been 3 months since he met this peculiar boy in Seoul and saved him from his cruel ex-master, Ahn Jun-young, whom the Cullens as well as the Volturi had been hunting for ages. Changing humans with the potential to become a gifted vampire... Just thinking about this made Edward frown in disgust. Not only was Jinyoung turned into a vampire, but he also lost his loved ones during that incident. Seeing the little boy crying his eyes out at the funerals of his cherished ones and blaming himself for their deaths made Edward's heart hurt. In a way, Edward could perfectly relate to this young boy, especially since Jinyoung's mom had been the centre of the boy's life the same way Edward's mother used to be there for Edward.

Frankly, at first Edward didn't thought about adopting Jinyoung at all, he just wanted to help him to get his life back together and make sure he wasn't a danger to himself or others. However, after few weeks Edward started to notice the special connection, tying his and Jinyoung's mind. Initially, the boy's thoughts just seemed clearer than anyone else's and easier for Edward to focus on - but after spending more time with him Edward realised that Jinyoung's thoughts were a voice he couldn't silence no matter how hard he tried. Furthermore, somewhere along the way he started to care about him like he was his real son, leading him and Bella to adopt Bae Jinyoung as Jinyoung Cullen 2 months after their first encounter.

Edward glanced back again, but this time a huge fatherly smile formed on his lips upon seeing his wife trying to interact with their newly adopted son. Who knew that he would still be able to see Bella's kind and overprotective motherly expression once again plastered on her face, even after Renesmee and Jacob had left them to gather more information on hybrids and Renesmee's future.

"Oh. Here, look. Starting tomorrow, the maroon-bricked building on the right will be your new school," Bella exclaimed loudly as soon as she saw the wooden sign of Forks High School, in an attempt to lift the mood after seeing Jinyoung's dejected expression. "Wow, it's tomorrow already. The time sure flies quickly."

Jinyoung didn't know what to think about this statement. He knew that moving to Forks and letting him do all those stuff that humans would normally do were part of the test that he needed to go through in order to prove himself to them, but he didn't feel ready yet. True, Jinyoung was always exceptional at controlling his thirst - although he himself wasn't sure why he was good at it - and he somehow managed to control his gift to a certain extent - he was able to decide when his power could manifest and when not - but he felt like the trust and care that he had received from the Cullens so far, wasn't deserved at all. After all those things that happened, how can they trust me so easily, Jinyoung thought to himself worriedly.

As a misty forest quickly replaced urban surroundings, the road became unpaved, barely visible among the ferns. After few miles, the car finally stopped and Jinyoung found himself staring through the darkly tinted window, clearly fascinated by a large and graceful house set in a breathtaking scenery of a small meadow, surrounded by cedars and grassy hills spreading to the horizon.

"Welcome to your new home."

Hearing "home" made Jinyoung twitch a little, while the old flashbacks and painful memories were overflowing his little head. Death, his mother, Jisung-hyung, Daehwi... However right before his mind could fall deeper in the pit of self-regret and guilt, a gentle touch interrupted his train of thoughts.

"Let's go," Bella encouraged him with a kind smile, holding the car door open for him. Jinyoung shook his head in order to get rid of unnecessary thoughts and after giving himself a small pep talk in his mind, while nervously biting his lips, he finally got out of the car.

The sun was already setting down and without darkly tinted car windows to protect his eyes, Jinyoung immediately squinted several times against the the bright sun as he raised his hand to create a shadow for his eyes. It had only been 4 months since his transformation so all these human habits - like biting his lips out of nervousness, squinting, raising his hand against the sun - were still deeply written in his behaviour. So human of me, he mocked himself with a deep hatred of being who he was now in his eyes - a 17 year-old vampire who had done some terrible deeds and who was certainly not worthy of being alive, let alone to live with a new perfect family in this beautiful house that was right in front him.

As if Edward was reading his thoughts - Edward really did and although Jinyoung knew all about the special abilities that the Cullens possessed, he was still in half-denial about his thoughts not being private anymore - he put his hands on Jinyoung's shoulders in a protective manner. "You're safe now. There is no need to be nervous. Let's meet the rest of our family."

Despite Edward's words, Jinyoung couldn't calm his nerves and while looking down, he clenched his fists anxiously. So many things changed just in the span of last several months and the life he was leading now was almost like a dream to him. Just when Jinyoung was about to lift his eyes, he could suddenly feel how those heavy feelings, recently burdening his heart, were slowly fading away. Jasper, he guessed as he saw six figures approaching them.

"Hello, Jinyoung. Finally, we get to meet each other! I am Carlisle, Edward's father," the oldest-looking male introduced himself, though in Jinyoung's eyes he could easily pass as Edward's older brother. "And this is the rest of our family. My wife Esme and this is Alice, Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett."

Jinyoung politely bowed to each person as they slowly did the same one by one, leaving enough time for Jinyoung to carefully look at each person and try to connect them with the stories that Bella and Edward had told him during those lonely nights in Seoul. Except those same golden eyes and pale skin, their physique was quite different - from the intimidating big-muscled guy with dark curly hair, who was almost twice as big as the petite inky black-haired girl standing on Carlisle's left with her head smaller than Jinyoung's, to the leaner honey-blond male covered with old scars, looking like a someone who had been in pain for a very long time.

"Then shall we go inside and talk?" Esme suggested and pointed to the open front door. "Let's have a cup of Earl Grey together."

Does a cup of Earl Grey mean a cup of real tea or is it some type of vampire code for blood? I think I read something similar to this in "100 Things You Need To Know About Vampires"... - was all Jinyoung could think of when he finally stepped into the house that was supposed to be his new home.

Hearing this, Edward couldn't help but chuckle a bit. Does he really think that vampires have their own secret language or something?

If Jinyoung thought the exterior of Cullens' house was beautiful, then the interior fitted only one word in his dictionary - stunning. And for Jinyoung it had literal meaning - after his first step through the door he immediately froze in genuine amazement.

Just the first story of Cullens' house was about 4 times bigger than the old apartment in Seoul where he used to live with his mum, Jisung-hyung and his grandpa. Thanks to the southern glass wall in the back, the inside looked open and bright, with few internal walls and a wide central staircase to the left. The high-beamed ceiling, the wooden floors and thick carpets were all varying in shades of white and Jinyoung was suddenly reminded of those countless bedstories that his mum used to tell him when he couldn't sleep and where those heroes and heroines had one thing in common - they all lived in white spacious castles and palaces built and decorated in minimalist style, partly made of glass. A dream projected into made-up fairytales, Jinyoung realized and the feeling of guilt took over him. And now her dream will never become true. I am responsible for her death, it should be her standing here - not me.

"Come on in, you don't have to be shy. The kitchen is this way," Esmee prompted Jinyoung after seeing him cornering himself against the now closed front door. Jinyoung only slightly nodded before following her deeper into the house.

"Oh, shouldn't we give him a house tour first?" Alice asked, beaming with excitement.

"That's right," Esmee agreed, "you can show Jinyoung the house and I'll make us some tea in the meantime."

While Esme, Carlisle, Rosalie and Emmett remained downstairs, the rest quickly climbed the stairs to the second floor.

"This is Rosalie's and Emmett's room, Jasper's study, Jasper's room and mine," Alice explained enthusiastically, pointing at each door as she moved clock-wised. "And do you see the door at the back? That's 3-in-1 room - there is Carlisle's office and his personal library as well as Esme's study."

Unlike the rest of "the house tour group", Jinyoung walked much slower, staring and touching everything around him, almost as if he wanted to make sure that he wasn't dreaming. While going to the third floor, he couldn't help but gasp in shock when he saw the graduation cap display. Is this a vampire thing? How old are they really...

"This is Carlisle's and Esme's room. And that door...well, a SUPER PRIVATE LIBRARY," Alice emphasised and quickly continued, leaving no room for further discussion. "And here we have the highlight of the tour - Edward's former room and your new room."

Honestly, Jinyoung had no interest in that "super private library" or any of the Cullens' secrets, but he was really curious about Edward's - and now his - room. But before he could even step inside, Alice announced, "The Denalis will be here in 2 minutes."

Jinyoung took a quick look - the room was quite empty except a few shelves filled with old books and a huge gramophone on a bedside table - before all of them hurriedly went down as a sound of an incoming car tickled their vampire ears. When they finally sat down around the kitchen table, the cups of tea - including those for the anticipated visitors - were already prepared for them.

While eyeing his cup, Jinyoung's clearly relieved expression left everyone but Edward confused. He really did think that there would be blood in his cup even though he couldn't smell it. He's too innocent for this world, Edward thought to himself while trying his hardest to hold his laugh.

"Only Eleazar and his son Minhyun are coming," Alice reported when they heard two different sets of steps approaching the house.

Jinyoung felt more nervous than ever. He knew very well what Eleazar's gift was and why was Eleazar meeting him.

"We need to know more about those black flames so you can control it better in the future," Edward said firmly when he once again failed to light a candle without hurting himself. Since Jinyoung's gift was purely physical, Bella's shield couldn't protect him or others from those damn flames. "If the Volturi come or if you lose your control...I have a friend living near my hometown who can help us. His name is Eleazar, he can sense the type and strength of any gift that vampire can possess. Furthermore, apparently his son Minhyun is a shield too, but a physical type. He might be able to help you train your gift better than we ever could..."

So now here he was - nervously sitting and twitching, while the anticipated visitors were scanning him from head to toe.

"It has been such a long time," Eleazar exclaimed enthusiastically, greeting everyone in the room. "This is my son Minhyun."

Minhyun politely bowed, while a radiant smile lighted up his face. "Nice to meet you."

Although turning into a vampire did have several effects on physical appearance, race and nationality could be still easily recognized - and Jinyoung didn't need his strong accent or bowing to know that this guy was a fellow Korean, unlike Eleazar. But then again, Jinyoung wasn't even that suprised - joining covens and adopting seemed like a quite common process for vampires.

"This is Jinyoung," Bella introduced as Jinyoung bowed. "Let's sit down."

"So what do you think about Jinyoung's gift, Eleazar?" Edward asked, getting straight to the point. "Can those black flames be controlled properly?"

Edward's eagerness left Eleazar very surprised. Didn't they met like 3 months ago? - Eleazar thought to himself to himself with certain jealousy. Although Jinyoung hadn't said a word this whole time, his eyes and expressions seemed very affectionate every time Edward or Bella spoke. Seeing this, Eleazar couldn't help but compare their relationship to the one of his coven and Minhyun. Eleazar had adopted Minhyun 2 years ago when his family had hunted down one of those "changers" - a similar case to the Cullens and Ahn Jun-young - and although Minhyun was always kind to them, it was his power that made Eleazar doubt their closeness. Minhyun was a shield type, the most powerful one Eleazar had ever met. At first, Minhyun's gift was only physical. If someone made a physical attack at Minhyun, he would encounter an invisible wall - though the shape looked more like "a second skin" than a wall - deflecting anything Minhyun considered dangerous for full 3 minutes. In the vampire point of view where the matter of life and death was decided within a few seconds, 3 minutes basically meant invincibility. Just this alone would make Minhyun a highly desirable target if the Volturi ever got to find out about his talent. What was worse for Eleazar, the boy developed his gift in a way even Eleazar didn't dare to expect - he became a full shield of physical and mental defense, a gift for which the Volturi would even declare a war to anyone if needed. However every gift had its limits, in Minhyun's case the time of 3 minutes seemed like something Minhyun couldn't improved no matter how hard he tried, as well as the shape - Minhyun could protect only himself. A certain part of Eleazar wanted to believe that protecting himself was the real limit for such a powerful gift, but his heart was telling him otherwise - it was the matter of protecting the right person and unfortunately the Denalis weren't them.

Edward doesn't know what Jinyoung's gift really is... Though the young boy seems as clueless as his parents... - Eleazar mused again, closely observing Jinyoung.

"Those black flames are only one part of Jinyoung's gift. The clear voice that you hear inside of your head is another manifestation of his powers," Eleazar explained, making everyone more and more stiff with every following word. Just the fact that Eleazar was beating around the bush implied that the answer was something they should be afraid of. Jinyoung didn't even react to the matter of Edward keeping the voice in his head, that was supposed to be Jinyoung's, as a secret from him - he felt like the real thing he should be worried about is Eleazar's upcoming sentence. "Ability replication, it's ability replication," Eleazar repeated, trying to clear any doubts they might have about their perfect vampire hearing and the words that he just let out of his mouth.

Dear readers,
here are several notes from me. The idea came on whim so I am really sorry that the first chapter took almost a month to be completed, next update should be sooner. Although the first chapter might be more hwangdeep, as I stated in the summary, this ff is mainly winkdeep. It should've been more winkdeep-centric but I do ship other ships as well (basically every ship with Jinyoung and ongniel, partly panwink - but more like a fan admiring his favorite idol). Next chapter will follow Jihoon and his human - yes, spoiler, he's human - life in Forks and will include a lot of panwink, some winkdeep - they will finally meet in the next chapter - and some other ships. Also English is not my first - nor even second - language so surely there will be some mistakes. If anyone is interested in proof-reading this ff, please comment below (I WOULD BE SOOOO GRATEFUL!). If you have any questions or just anything to say about my work, every comment will be appreciated. Please give a lot of love and support to Bae Jinyoung and Wanna One in their future activities!
