Temporary Permanence

Description

Memories were things that no one can simply erase. There were good memories, bad memories, and neutral ones. All of which can be recalled with a connecting thought or sudden nostalgia.

But what if you can't remember anything anymore?

What if those good, bad, and neutral memories start to disappear?

You must be feeling confused... frustrated... and even hopeless.

It's a good thing that you have someone by your side.

And that someone is there to stay.

Foreword

"Go to sleep, Jiyong."

He just stared at me silently, seemingly scanning my face and the tired expression that I wore. His hands went to my waist as he pulled me closer to his embrace, his stubble tickling my forehead. Before I knew it, I felt myself welling up with tears. I snuggled closer to him while he rubbed my back to comfort me. His scent always made me feel like I'm home. Kwon Jiyong was my home and I don't know what I would do if he wasn't here beside me.

"I love you, Dara." he whispered. "Remember that."

I nodded fervently making him chuckle. Jiyong tipped my chin towards him and looked at me with the same piercing brown eyes that I fell in love with. The thought just brought another tear in my eye. Smiling faintly, he wiped them away with his thumbs and I nestled myself closer at the feel of his calloused hand on my cheek.

"I don't want to go to sleep." he mumbled.

"You have to, Jiyong." I answered with a whine. "Sleeping late isn't healthy for you."

He dropped down to give me a lingering kiss on the head and I could feel myself closing my eyes at the touch of his lips. "You worry too much." he suddenly said.

"It's because everything you do makes you worry. I'm having a sneaking suspicion that I married a child disguised as a man." I joked, laughing.

I saw him watching me with that scrutinizing look he always gives me when I'm laughing. And that smile that he wore—that sweet, boyish smile.

"I love you, Kwon Jiyong." I sobbed. "I love you so much."

He hummed in understanding, tucking me under his chin and petting my head. "Please don't forget everything we've done together." he croaked. "You're the only one I have left."

"I'll never forget. I promise." I smiled at him in assurance, my lips quivering uncontrollably as my tears continued to spill. "Let's go to sleep now, okay?"

His warmth around my body made me feel at ease like always. My eyes began to feel droopy because of all that crying and exhaustion from earlier. He started humming an unrecognizable song as he started patting me to sleep. I clutched on the fabric of his shirt tightly as if he would disappear if I let go.

"I'm sorry." he said. "I'm sorry for everything, Sandara."

I didn't bother answering as I knew that I had already forgiven him long before. I just pulled myself closer to him, relishing the comforting warmth that I can only have for so long.

"I love you."

Sleep came by like a swift thief and before I knew it I was already asleep in his arms.
