He Thought She Didn't Notice

They sat at the hidden coffee shop, the one Kibum liked to visit when he wanted to be alone. He had ordered them both drinks, both of which sat forgotten on the table between them. They stared at each other. In synchronization, they would open their mouths to say something, but stop, waiting for the other. She looked down at her hands, folded and small on the table. “I’m sorry.” The ice was broken. He wanted to reach out, to capture her delicate fingers with his long ones, but he held back. “I heard you went home.” “My mom needed me.” “Is everything okay?” She hesitated this time. Were things not okay at home? Was She going to have to leave again? She took a deep breath covered her face with her hands, elbows on table and leaning in. “I like you…” It was muffled. But Kibum heard it. And again, the world froze.
