Watching From A Distance

Beyond Words

SummaryHomouality isn't accepted by society

Disclaimer: Broken!Jeti

"Ah, there you are,"

Yes, there was where she was, looking at Tiffany in a distance.

It was normal, considering the fact that she couldn't bear to stand next to the bubbly girl lest her feelings grew stronger.

The only thing that was stopping her from getting her happiness was probably the society.

Or at least those who conformed to the ways of the world,  thinking that homouality was abnormal.

She probably didn't care about what others thought, but the same could not be said about Tiffany.

She knew that if she had went forward, she could find her own happiness, but by compromising Tiffany's.  And she knew she didn't have the heart to do that.

So she sat there, watching the brunette play around with the other members , watching her smile without any worries.

"Thinking about her again, aren't you? "

Jessica turned around and saw Sunny smirking at her, knowing that she has been caught.

The older girl didn't need to give a reply as she turned back and shifted a little to the right to make space for Sunny .

"Sometimes I feel you care too much about how she feels,"

Jessica scoffed mentally. If she didn't do it, who would?

"But it's understandable,"

The blonde felt the weight on the sofa disappear as she saw Sunny rise and walk away.

-

It didn't help that Tiffany was chummy with everyone.

Everyone was glad that she was.

Well, almost everyone.

Jessica frowned as she felt Tiffany sliding down onto the couch beside her. As she snuggled closer to the older girl, Jessica couldn't help but to tense her jaw. She needed to get away fast.

It made Tiffany look up in surprised as the blonde jolted up from her seat, mumbling something about having to go to the washroom. But the younger girl knows something wrong, because Jessica has never once pushed her away before.

Somehow deep inside, she sort of knew what was going on. It wasn't hard to guess after overhearing the conversation between Taeyeon and Jessica.

"You love her,"

"And?"

"And you should go for it,"

"It's not that simple,"

"You haven't gave it a shot! How would you know?"

"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, TAEYEON!"

The silence probably showed how shock Taeyeon was by Jessica's sudden outburst.

"You wouldn't understand," Jessica paused, "It kills me to see her get upset over hurtful comments about her being gay,"

Tiffany swore she heard the footsteps becoming louder, so she quickly hurried back into her room.

But in the process, she heard Jessica's voice, probably still to Taeyeon.

"I would never compromise her happiness for my own. It's selfish,"

Tiffany believed that she would never be gay and she felt the need to change Jessica.

And she thought, maybe, just maybe, by acting a little friendlier will help Jessica realise that the infatuation she had was just merely admiration as a friend and nothing more.

She didn't know how the logic worked, but she believed in it anyway.

-

The more Jessica thought about it, the more she realised confessing would not only harm the one she loved, but also the other members.

What would happen to them if the two of them were actually dating?

Probably more rumours, probably suspension, probably the closing down of the company.

And yet, the other members were supportive of her, constantly asking  her to step up.

She knew she couldn't hurt them, not when they were just onlookers to her problems. She could and would never bear to drag them into her problems.

And so, she decided.

Standing up from her bed, she started packing her luggage.

She was going to leave for a while.

-

"Jessi?"

Jessica stopped. She thought that maybe by leaving early in the morning she wouldn't get caught. But no, someone has to stop her.

Truthfully, what bothered her wasn't the fact that she got caught, but it was the fact that she got caught by someone she wanted to escape from.

"Yes?"

She tried to put on a smile as she turned around to see the younger girl frowning.

"Where are you going?"

"I'll be going back to visit my parents for a little while," Jessica saw the unconvinced look on Tiffany's face, so she continued, " I kind of miss them a little,"

"Are you avoiding me?"

She didn't expect Tiffany to be that straightforward.

Trying her best to avoid Tiffany's eyes, she turned away to lie.

"No, I'm not. I'm just going back to visit them alright? Stop thinking too much about it,"

"Then why are you looking away?"

Silence engulfed the both of them.  Jessica didn't know what to say.

"Can you look at me in the eye and say that you aren't avoiding me?"

"Stop your nonsense Tiffany. I've got to go now,"

Jessica picked up her luggage and carried it down the stairs. She then wheeled it towards the front door before twisting her back to see Tiffany still standing there, looking at her.

Not knowing what else to say (a goodbye would be a little inappropriate at a time like this) , she turned back around and walked out of the dormitory.

She needed to get out of here.

-

During the few days that Jessica was gone, she asked many questions about homouals.

Were they born like that?

Is it more of a hormonal problem?

Most importantly, why aren't they accepted by society?

She probably knew the answers to these questions.

It isn't normal for one to like another of the same .

Like how God made Adam and Eve, and not Eve and Jane, or Adam and John.

It was how the world and creatures were made.

Opposites attract.

But she also started to realise how different she and Tiffany was.

Opposites do attract.

Just in the wrong area.

-

When the older girl finally returned to the dormitory, everyone rushed up to her, asking her how it felt like being back together with her family.

She heard Sooyoung's complain about her not being able to go back and yet Jessica was given a chance to do so. Yuri's jokes ,about Jessica missing the 8 girls too much that she decided to return a little earlier, were also not missed. She probably heard everyone's voice, except the husky one, the one that she was longing to hear.

She looked up and saw Tiffany standing at the fifth step of the flight of stairs, looking at the older girl one more time before continuing her way back to her bedroom.

Jessica quickly excused herself from the rest before rushing up the stairs, into Tiffany's bedroom.

She twisted the doorknob and entered before being welcomed by a cold voice.

"Why are you here? I thought you were avoiding me,"

"Fany, I'm sorry," Tiffany didn't flinch and she continued to face her back at Jessica.

"I'm really sorry," Jessica sighed as she moved forward to sit on the bed, before continuing, " I- I had some problems at that time, and I just needed some space to sort my thoughts out, "

"So, has it been sorted out yet?" The older girl noticed that Tiffany's fingers fidgeted as she was replying. But she merely shrug it off, thinking that it was probably due to the awkwardness. She didn't know that Tiffany knew what she was talking about.

"Yeah, I guess,"

"And what are you going to do about it?"

"I guess ignoring my feelings is the best way now," Jessica notices her slip - the word feelings were used. She hurriedly cover it up with a forced laughter, "Ahh, why am I telling you this? It's not as if you know what my problem is, right?"

She continued with a pat on Tiffany's head before dragging her out, preventing the younger girl from asking anymore questions.

"Come, let's go get dinner,"

-

Jessica's decision was made clear to Tiffany.

As much as Tiffany believes that she isn't gay, she couldn't help but to feel a little disappointed with Jessica. She probably wanted to know how it felt like when someone was chasing after you, she reasoned.

But then again, this was wrong. Homouality is wrong. And she knows it will never be accepted.

She faced Jessica and saw that she was reading a book. Jessica looked up, noticed Tiffany's stare and smiled back.

Tiffany's smile slowly turned into a frown as she noticed the title of the book - Oranges are not the only fruit.
