If nothing else, Shuya was notorious for being perpetually cheerful, and friendly; in spite of whatever he had, or didn’t have, he always found ways to enjoy himself, and reasons to smile.
As of late, his ways and reasons had been few and far between. He found himself to just be going through the motions, between school, work, and soccer; just following routine, not really living.
It was Saturday, and after practices and workouts a group of his Frist House friends decided to head out into the city for lunch, making their way over to the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in SOMA. It was pretty packed, with regular customers and several AIASF students looking to get off campus for a weekend; they managed to get seats, taking up a table near the storefront. Over an array of different sandwiches Shuya watched as his friends talked and laughed amongst themselves; he couldn’t really find it in himself to join in and, unsurprisingly, it didn’t go unnoticed.
“Shu.” Shu paused, looking up to find Hinata’s eyes intent on him. “What’s up with you?”
“What do you mean?” Shuya inquired, frowning slightly.
“You’re out of it,” Hinata declared in response. “What’s up?”
“Nothing,” Shuya insisted. “I’m just not in a talkative mood.” Their exchange had caught the attention of the table, and Shuya felt the eyes of Senri and Kiyoshi Yaotome, a track runner and another one of his friends, on him before they exchanged looks with each other.
