Angels (Chapter 1-7)

Angels (jus4x-mas) [one-shot]

Chapter 1

Shy Street Lights

I was walking the same path I take home everyday. The snow falls down ever so lightly, the lightest it has all season. I remember when I was a junior in high school, that was the last time the snow had seem to beautiful. I remember holding onto her hand as we took this path home. Her cheeks were blushing red from the cold wind, but her hands were shaking from nervousness. I will never forget that moment, my first love.
It wasn't until high school was over that year after when we decided to break up and go our separate ways. She knew in her heart we weren't going to last... but I wanted to prove her wrong... I just wasn't given that chance.
It's been five years ever since that day, and I finally took up the courage to walk down this street of memories. Still, I wish things were still the same, where they would never change. I just wasn't ready to say goodbye. Looking up towards the dark sky, I can't see a single cloud, nor a single star, the world has gone quiet, very quiet.
When I reached upon home, the street light outside my house was flickering on and off. The bulb had been doing so for the past week, yet it wasn't ready to die out. It kept doing so as I stared at it for a minute longer. I tried to ignore it as I took a step but found my foot has stepped onto something hard. I looked down, it was a small rock. I picked it up and saw the flickering light shine down towards it. I looked up and threw the rock, the light went out.

Chapter 2

Infront of a Warm Fire

"Aaron," my mom says rushing towards me as I entered the house. She took my jacket and saw the red cheeks, "aish, it's freezing out and yet you still considered walking home. Sit down the fireplace." She takes my jacket into the other room and hangs it in the closet.
I enter into the living room, where my grandpa was sleeping on the couch, his hot cocoa wasn't so hot anymore as it sat ontop of the coffee table. I approach the fireplace, sat down and held my hands out towards the heat. Finally, I thought, I'm home again.
"Aaron!"
I heard her call for me from behind. I turn back as she threw herself onto my back with a warm smile, "I missed you!"
I lightly laugh, "Gui, what are you doing here? I thought you were going to visit your parents down south?"
She shook her head, "how can I go? I thought you promised to spend Christmas with me?" She sat down next to me and rested her head on my shoulder.
I could feel her light heartbeat.
"Here you go," my mother says coming out of the kitchen with two cups of hot cocoa in her hands, one for Gui, one for me.
"Thank you," Gui says taking it happily and smiles to me.
I take it lightly and set it infront of me, I wasn't planning on drinking it.
"It'll be awhile, dinner's not ready yet."
"Let me help you auntie," Gui then rushes into the kitchen with my mother.
I sat there, starring at the warm open fire. I didn't know why, but the warm feeling ran through my body, but my heart... still felt cold.

Chapter 3

Silent Piano Song

"Ey, you're really back for the holidays!"
I turn around and saw my best friend Jiro walking into the house, a girl by his side. I stand up slowly and greet them.
He gives me a warm hug, enough to put a smile on my face once more. "How's the college life? You shouldn't leave auntie here to take care of the whole place do you?"
I just continue to smile.
"Ah, this is my girlfriend Selina."
She just smiles lightly and greets me, "hello."
I just nod my head lightly.
Then the sound of the piano came throughout the house.
"Aish," my mom curses from the kitchen, "she's at it again."
I looked up the stairs towards the sound of the piano. It drew me towards it. As I entered into the second door up the stairs, I saw her sitting there playing the song I had taught her the day before I left.
She spots me from the corner of her eyes and she stops playing. She stands up and stares at me with a cold smile, "you're back?"
I just nod, "Hebe..." I say her name lightly, "how's everything?"
She lightly scoffs, "you've been gone for five years and that's all you can say to your sister?" She rushes to me and hugs me tightly, tears falls from her eyes, "jie jie misses you."
I pat her lightly and look at her, "I have something I want to ask you."
She saw the look in my eyes, immediately, she knew what I want to ask.

Chapter 4

Lonesome Snow Angel

"What happened?" I ask as she lightly brushes the piano keys.
"She..." Hebe starts, "she's gone..."
My heart breaks even more, "gone? What do you mean by gone?"
Hebe doesn't say much, "she's been gone for four years..." Her voice trembles, "she did leave something for you..."
"What is it--"
"So you guys are here," Calvin says entering into the room.
Hebe smiles lightly, "ey, did you just get here?"
He nods and holds onto her hand, "I can't miss today for any other reason." He kisses her lightly on the forehead.
I look down and silently leave the room. Walking down the hall I overhear so many festive voices from down the stairs. Why am I the only one who's feeling down?
I didn't feel like joining them, slowly I walk out the back door without anyone noticing. Sitting on the bench beside the house, I look up at the lonely moon, the silence felt good.
"Why aren't you inside?"
I looked to my left only to see Ella closing the door behind her.
She sat down beside me and looked up at the moon, "it's still the same isn't it? You're still the same."
I force a laughter, "yeah."
"Here," she says handing me a blue box.
I looked at it, confused, "what is it?"
"Angel wants me to give this to you."
I looked at her confused, "Angel?"
She nods, "it's been five years... don't you want to know what happened?"
I didn't know why, but my hands were shaking when I touched the box. After recieveing it, Ella sighs.
"My little sister missed you so much don't you know?" She pats me on my shoulders and lets out a shaking breath, "try to savor it ok?" She then walked back inside to join the rest of them.
Looking at the box, I slowly opened it.

Chapter 5

Silent Night

~To Aaron~ was what it said on the front of the card. I opened it to read the passage, ~do you remember the walk home? It snowed on our first day and it also snowed on our last day. I told myself that day we parted, I won't turn back and I won't regret... but I kept telling myself a lie. No matter how long it'll be, I'll always be your Angel.~
Inside the box was a dead rose, the first rose I had given her. There was also a bracelet which I had given her on her birthday, the first birthday that we spent together. There was also picture of us... the only picture we had taken together throughout the time we've been together... we didn't savor our time at all. Now that it's come to this part... everything we had is gone.
"Aaron!" Gui says coming outside, "hurry! Let's have dinner!"
I just nod, "I'll be there in a little bit."
She just smiles and goes back inside the house.
I stare back at the box full of our memories, I came across an envelope, I opened it and I read the papers inside.
~Angel...~ I thought to myself, ~she left me because she knew she was going to leave me anyways...~ the paper work were filled with her hospital records, she had an illness known as Ischaemic heart disease, where the heart itself can't provide enough blood to other organs... she passed away four years ago.... I couldn't help but cry to myself... I haven't had time to tell her the words I kept inside for so long... now I'll never have the chance to say it.

Chapter 6

Angels

Walking back into the house, my hands were trembling, I tried so hard not to cry, but my eyes could be enough evidence.
"Aaron!" Gui calls out as she comes running towards me with her camera, "let's take a picture!" She leans against me and takes the picture. She looks through it once more and looked back at me, "it didn't turn out good, let's take another one." She stood beside me once more and took another one, it turns out the same. "Is something wrong with my camera?" She took a random picture of the wall and nothing was wrong with it.
I looked at her confused, "what's wrong?"
Gui looked at me confused, "one more ok?" She stood beside me again and we took another picture. She looked at it again, "it turned out the same again..."
"Gui, what's wrong?" Hebe says walking up to her.
"My camera must be broken," she says, "the picture turns out weird."
Hebe took a look at the picture, "ey, what's that?" She says pointing at the picture.
Everyone rushed to take a look at the picture.
There was a golden aura around Aaron but not on Gui. All the pictures she took with Aaron, that golden aura was still there.
"Wah," Jiro says brightly, "you must have an angel protecting you."
"Angel?" I question in confusion.
Selina looked at it and nods, "yeah, my grandma is a physic, she says a golden aura means an angel is watching over you."
I look at the picture once more and whisper it to myself, "angel..."
***
Sitting alone in my room after everyone left, I read the passage she had left me once more.
~no matter how long it'll be, I'll always be your Angel...~
Tears filled into my eyes as I re-read that passage over and over again, I couldn't help but cry.
That night as I slept, I could feel my heart warming up again... because Angels were watching over me... especially the Angel that has never left me...
The words that I've kept from her for all those five years... she's finally recieved it.

Chapter 7

Saying Bye

The car pulls up to the silent cemetary.
Ella looks at the grave and sighs as I lay down the flowers by the headstone. I couldn't help but let my eyes read the passage written on it.
~"The times we were happy together are worth the times I cry alone"~
"My heart started to break..." Ella says, "when she told me she wanted this to be written on her headstone." She looks at me as I stand up next to her, "she wanted me to take you here... so you can read this.... She wanted you to know... this is her feeling after leaving you."
I couldn't help but break down, tears rolled down my cheeks as I covered my mouth to keep from exploding.
Ella wipes her tears, "I'll be in the car..." she says leaving me to cry.
I touch the snow infront of me, the snow that had fallen over her grave. I let out a deep breath and finally tell her the words in my heart, "in my dreams..." I pause, "you're forever mine..."
