Attention, My Boy! (ONE-SHOT)

(Just edited lol)

-📚📚📚-

It was a normal day for Hayi. Listening intently with the professor's lecture, she didn't fail to take down the important notes.

And then there was Hanbin on her side, sneakily sleeping. He almost occupied the bench Hayi was sitting on, and because he was not visible in the teacher's direction, he had a high chance getting away with it.

Hayi sighed at his state. He was a hopeless case.

The bell rang, the sound waking Hanbin from his slumber. He sat up groggily. "Lunch time?"

Hayi sighed for the second time and fixed her things. "Yeah. Get your lazy up."

A smile crept up to his face. He was the first to stand up between the two of them.

"Let's go!" he animatedly exclaimed while intertwining hands with his girlfriend.

They arrived inside the cafeteria in no time. Scanning through the students already packing the place, Hayi saw Bobby waving at a table nearby.

Hanbin didn't need telling and dragged her to sit at his friend's table. A few of their close friends were already there too. He let her take a seat before leaving on his own.

Bobby furtively glanced at Hanbin's retreating back before looking at Hayi with a grim look on his face.

"Hayi," he called out. "Did he sleep during classes again? He looks disoriented as usual."

As much as she didn't want to confirm his doubt, she nodded remorsefully.

Jinhwan's gaze darkened as he saw her nod. "We talked about this. He's seriously not going to change his attitude?"

"It's going out of hand. He just shrugs it off like it was no big deal. But it is a big deal," Hayi added.

"I volunteered to teach him one time. That brat didn't even last an hour. Maybe you can?" Donghyuk suggested.

At Donghyuk's side, Soohyun laughed. "Oppa, Hayi tried once. It didn't end well. Even Hayi wasn't enough for oppa to resist sleep."

Hayi groaned at that particular memory. She didn't talk to him for a week after that.

"I actually heard Mr. Kang saying one more failed test from Hanbin and he's finished," Bobby remorsefully retold.

The sudden revelation alarmed the people sitting around the table. Hayi knew that Hanbin wasn't the studying type but she wasn't aware that it has come to that point.

Their conversation abruptly stopped when Hanbin came back with a jubilant look on his face.

"What's up guys? Did someone died? You all look funny."

As if rehearsed, the people around the table took a deep breath.

Hayi pulled the chair beside her as he place the tray on the table. The gesture made him send her a smile.

At that instance, she realized she didn't want to make him lose that sight she loved seeing every day. She had to do something about his situation, even if it took her drastic measures.

-📚📚📚-

'Binnie-ah, let's hangout at my place. Parents are not home.'

Hayi glanced at her text before hitting send. Without missing a beat, she received a reply immediately.

'5 minutes.'

Her phone beeped again. Another message coming from Hanbin.

'No, make that 2 minutes. OMY. ;)'

Looking at his text, it was obvious he was excited about their secret rendezvous at her place. She couldn't help but heave a sigh as she glanced at the pile of books stacked on her coffee table. It made her guilty, but it was for his benefit.

A few minutes after, she received a text from Hanbin informing her he was in front of her door.

She proceeded to go out of the room while messily tying her hair up. After checking to see if her hairstyle was right, she opened the door and was greeted with the sight of a smirking Hanbin.

He wriggled his eyebrows and didn't wait for her to welcome him in.

"I heard some damsel in distress calling out my name."

It took all her willpower not to laugh at him as he entered the house. Suppressing the laugh dangerously bubbling inside her chest, she composed herself and held his hand to take him to her room.

As soon as she opened her door though, he immediately made a 360-degree turn. She was expecting his reaction to be like this so she quickly grabbed hold of his arm.

"Not this again!" he groaned out.

"Sorry, Binnie. I had to do it or else you wouldn't come."

Without her indicating so, he sat on the floor to face her coffee table where the books were piled up.

She followed and sat beside him. "Come on, Binnie. I'm sorry. But this is for your sake."

Silence was the only thing coming from him. He remained adamant on ignoring his girlfriend. But when she put on the cutest pout she could muster, it made him lose his restraint.

"You tricked me," he said with accusation on his voice.

"I'm really sorry, Binnie-ah. Please forgive me?"

He was still frowning, but could see the mischievous glint on his eyes. "Kiss me then."

"Huh?"

"Kiss me and I'll forgive you."

Her eyes scanned his face and showed he wasn't playing around. Sighing in defeat, she leaned closer and pecked him on the lips.

"There. Better?"

He just shook his head stubbornly and at that gesture, he reminded her of a grown-up acting like a baby.

She kissed him on the lips again, this time longer in order to satisfy his sulking boyfriend. She didn't miss how he was fighting a smile to break out.

And then it suddenly dawned on Hayi. She knew exactly what she had to do in order for him to pay attention.

He stopped his child-like state and went back to his normal self, settling himself more comfortably on the floor.

"If we're going to do this, I cannot promise anything. And don't you dare get mad at me if I sleep again. You brought this upon yourself."

She nodded, grateful that he was giving this a chance.

"Okay, let's start with Mr. Kang's class..." she murmured as she pulled a book on top of the pile and opened it to a specific page.

She furtively glanced at Hanbin who had his arm propped up to the table, absentmindedly fiddling the pages of the books. They weren't beginning yet he looked bored by now.

Shaking any negative thoughts off her mind, she started talking in a formal tone.

Halfway through the review, he was already yawning. He tried focusing, but looked like struggling to do so.

Rolling her eyes at this, she finally proclaimed, "If you get correct answers on the questions I'll ask you later, I'll give you a kiss on the cheeks."

The sudden announcement was enough to keep his eyes open, even having the audacity to smirk. "Why not on the lips?"

She hadn't thought that through... But seeing his positive reaction was telling her she was going the right way.

"Hmm... If you get at least a B on the test with Mr. Kang tomorrow, I'll kiss you on the lips whenever you want."

It made him bolt up from his seat, straightening his back from idly leaning against the table. "Really?"

She nodded, almost enthusiastically. This kiss-loving devil...

"But if you get something wrong, I'll slap you on the forehead."

"That's unfair Hayi!" he grimaced.

The scenario of a glowing red slap mark on his forehead popped in her head. And the thought of that made her compromise.

"Fine. You'll get a slap on the forehead after you get three mistakes."

"Stick with what you said, Hayi," he declared with a unique glint on his eyes. "You're going down."

It made her smile. Let's see you try.

As soon as she started talking, he had a focused gaze on his eyes. It bothered her at the least, because his enchanting eyes were distracting her to do anything productive.

She was tempted to drop everything and haul him in her arms. This was what bothered her the most whenever he does this. Curse his charm.

After the heart-throbbing study session—for Hayi at least—it was now time for them to review every lessons she tackled. He stopped leaning against the table and sat straight up, ready for her to fire out the questions.

"Okay. When did the Korean War broke out?" she started, confident that he would be able to answer this.

But her gaze lowered when she studied his blank expression. After a while, he silently cursed under his breath.

"Come on, Binnie. It's an easy question."

He must've noticed the aura radiating off the girl as he scratched his head. "I don't really know. I'm sorry that your boyfriend's kind of stupid."

Something about it made her sigh, guilty that she made him feel like that. "You just didn't listen well. Let's continue."

A few other questions in, and he still wasn't getting anything right. His forehead was already glowing red after being slapped too much, an imagination she tried to avoid.

The only good thing that happened here was that he was still wide-awake. Usually at this time, he'd be snoozing off.

He ruffled his hair in frustration after getting the nth question wrong. "Aish. I don't know anymore!"

It startled her when he showed this kind of reaction. He was the easygoing style, and for him to burst out like this baffled her.

"Hanbin..." she warmly whispered as she brought out her hand to reach out to the exasperated teenager. It just came to mind that maybe what he needed was someone to lean on and not someone who could pile on the stress he was in right now.

What made her decide to draw her hand back though was when she heard him muttering, "you can do this," over and over again under his breath like a mantra.

Seeing him determined like this brought a smile to her lips. It's been a while since she saw him like this.

She didn't say anything for a while because she knew it was the best thing she could offer to help. It was effective because once he opened his eyes; determination was plastered across his face.

"Hit me those questions again after I review your notes."

She felt the weight of the books slip away from her lap. She observed how his eyes darted from side to side, his nose buried on the books he was gripping intently on his hands.

A few minutes had passed and it felt like hours.

The intense resolve reflected on his eyes wasn't diming any time soon. If ever, it kept on getting stronger as minutes ticked by.

Her mind was already in dreamland when she heard the loud thud of a book closing. It jolted her out of her sleep.

"Huh? What?"

"Let's do this."

She sighed when she realized it was just Hanbin who finished studying. His eyes fiery with resolve was enough to dispel the cloud of grogginess looming her consciousness.

Clearing to compose herself, she retrieved the book from his hands. She took it easy at first and asked him a simple question to get him going. He answered without blinking.

He was looking at her with a straight face while tapping his cheek. It made her laugh. Since rules are rules, she leaned and kissed him on the cheek.

He was slapped on the forehead twice, but with their pace, he already got four questions right. Until that became ten and ten became twenty and until there was no slapping on the forehead involved.

And suddenly, she owned him twenty kisses. She groaned mentally at that thought.

"Okay baby, time for payments."

Hayi begrudgingly closed the book. "Can we just turn four correct answers equivalent to one kiss?"

He shook his head lightly, smirking. "Nope."

She scooted nearer in front of him but hesitated half-way.

"Can we just do it at another time? I'm not in the mood today."

"But you promised," he whined.

She couldn't hide the smile on her face as he did that. It was always such a feat to withstand this side of him.

"Alright."

She took his cheeks with both of her petite hands, her eyes alive with appreciation. "Thank you for your hard work, Hanbin-ah."

He sent her a thankful smile and tucked her hair behind her ear. "I should be the one thanking you, Hayi."

She kissed him on his left cheek, then on the right. Then she planted her lips on his forehead, then on the tip of his nose.

He seemed ready to complain but as soon as her lips landed on him, he looked pleased than ever. She wanted to get it over and done with so she did it rapidly.

He couldn't help but chuckle as he felt like being tickled by her touch. Because of the speed she was going, she accidentally kissed him on the neck.

It made his cheeks go a faint tint of red. He avoided his gaze and went silent all of a sudden. Hayi knew it was one of the sensitive part of his body so he never let her near that. Until now. Unintentionally.

She fiddled with her fingers nervously. "Sorry."

"It's okay," he replied although it was noticeable that his face was beet red by now. The situation also called for her to blush too.

Awkward silence lingered in the air and she cursed herself mentally for causing it. It wasn't really her intention to do that... Just... Well...

"Hayi," he called out after a few moments of silence.

Finding the way to calm himself, he now looked at her straight in the eyes, mysterious emotions clouding his orbs. Her heart leaped as he did that. She always found his gaze to be alluring.

"Hm?" she could only blurt out.

He didn't say anything. Instead, he planted his hands in front of him and slowly went closer to Hayi, resembling a predator approaching its prey. She didn't make a move to avoid him and just went still, inciting her emotions to burst out in heart-flipping notions.

When he was close enough, their noses almost touching, he turned his head towards her, a malicious smirk playing across his lips. He looked like planning something else.

He reached out his arms in front of her and wrapped her to an embrace. He leaned his head on her shoulder and when he did so, she could feel his heart thumping against his chest. The gesture made her immobile.

"I love you."

A smile crept up on her lips, the sudden mention of those precious words bringing her a pleasant feeling. "I know."

"I'm not hearing the response I want to hear."

What can she do? She wasn't a fluff like he was. But she'll do anything for him.

"I love you too."

She felt him smile against her shoulder. No one attempted to speak between the two of them. It was a comfortable silence where the two were speaking with their beating hearts.

After a while, he looked at her with doe-like eyes, arms still wrapped around her waist, the one that resembles a child asking for something. He may look innocent, but his intentions was far from that.

Catching on, she laughed and pushed his face away. "Yah! You even have time to think like that? Go home! Jeez. We're finished studying."

"But Hayi—"

She glared at him and folded the book in possession with a loud bang. "Finished."

He saluted. "Yes ma'am!"

-📚📚📚-

The morning after, Hanbin was the first thought that crossed her mind. It was finally the day for the dreaded test.

When she arrived to their classroom, she noticed the dark circles under his eyes. She couldn't understand. He wasn't the type to sleep late at night and plus, she made him go home early yesterday.

"Why do you look like you haven't slept at all?" she asked as she plopped herself to the usual spot beside her, putting her school bag under the table as she did so.

He sent her a faint smile and leaned his arm on the bench to caress her hair. "I've thought about it a lot. You, Bobby, Jinhwan, Donghyuk, the guys... If I don't do well this time, I'll seriously get left behind. So for the first time in my life... I studied."

"I'm proud of you, Binnie," she proudly replied.

"Yeah," he glanced at her while wearing his trademark grin. "And also to get that reward you've been speaking of."

The sliding door of the classroom opened again. Mr. Kang arrived, with the stack of test papers on his hands. A frigid silence hovered over the room as usual whenever he makes his appearances.

He put the big mound of test papers on the table, the only sound allowed to echo in the room.

Somewhere along the stiffening silence, Hanbin found the audacity to call the girl beside him.

"Hayi."

She just spared him a glance before looking back in the front, afraid that they'll get caught by the terror teacher.

"What?" she hissed silently.

"I'm still not confident with my review..." he trailed off as he scratched his head. Then she saw the first signs of a naughty Hanbin as he puckered his lips, the gesture appalling Hayi. She agitatedly looked back and forth between their teacher and Hanbin. What the hell was he doing?

"Can you kiss me to remind me I'm right?"

The statement made her do a double take on him.

The nerve of this guy.

He didn't receive a reply as the test papers were now finally distributed among them. She settled for a nudge on his chest instead.

Before writing anything, Hayi sincerely wished that Hanbin would ace this test this time.

I hope this ends well.

-📚📚📚-

The test results were out after a day. It was the moment of truth and Hayi couldn't stay still. Not because she was worried for her grades but because of Hanbin.

It seemed like studying took a toll on him as he was sleeping again. Not even the loudest noise could wake him up.

Mr. Kang was handing the papers by their names. Hanbin's name was getting nearer to be called in front but he was still snoozing off. Trust him to do things at a critical time like this.

As the first Kim was called out, her eyes darted nervously to the sleeping figure beside her. She nudged him to wake the boy up.

"Wake up, Hanbin," she hissed.

"Kim Hanbin," Mr. Kang's icy voice echoed across the room.

Panicking, she gripped her knuckle and hit him on his thigh. Hard. It made him jolt out from his sleeping position and sit up abruptly.

"F—"

"Kim Hanbin." This time the teacher's voice seemed more forceful, sending chills down her spine.

She swallowed a heap of saliva in dread. He almost cursed, for the whole class to hear. There was no telling on what would've happened if he wasn't interrupted on time.

He rose from his seat blearily. While walking in front, she couldn't miss how he secretly massaged his upper thigh, limping as he did so. It made her guilty for a moment.

As he went in front of Mr. Kang to get his paper, his expression was unreadable. She observed how he stayed longer than he should have in front. The teacher sent him a skeptical look before calling the next student in front, indicating him to leave.

His expression wasn't telling her anything. She waited for him to come back to his seat and when he did, he almost slammed his test paper on their table.

It wasn't B or B+. But it wasn't C+ or C- either.

It was a freaking big fat A- scribbled on the top of his paper.

His eyes were now gleaming with delight and his lips were curving upwards to a bright smile. "I made it, Hayi!"

It left wide open. She didn't even expect an A at all. Of all the tests Hanbin took throughout his life, it was the first time. The freaking first time.

"Eiii~!" he exclaimed as he pinched her cheeks. "I can work hard like you too."

She sent him a scoff because he had the guts to touch her precious cheeks but he just shrugged it off.

But through all of this, she was sincerely happy. He had the capabilities but he rarely shows it. All it takes was just one push.

Thankfully, while the excitement was brewing between the couple's desk, Mr. Kang already left the room.

Hanbin's group of friends immediately came by to see his results. They were rooting for Hanbin to do his best as much as Hayi did. When they glanced at his paper, they simultaneously exclaimed in awe.

"Yah! Did you cheat?" Junhoe remarked as Jinhwan snatched the paper away to get a closer look, to see if he was really seeing it correctly.

Hanbin sneered at Junhoe's snide remark, acting like he was going to kick him on the shin which made the latter flinch.

"Wow..." Donghyuk couldn't help but utter as he stood side by side with Jinhwan, also looking at Hanbin's paper.

Yunhyeong leaned his arm against Donghyuk's shoulder and glanced at Hayi suspiciously. "What did you do to our Hanbin?"

"I just helped him get his motivation back on track," she shrugged.

With the result, Bobby finally danced in glee and slung his arm around Hanbin's shoulders. "This calls for a celebration! It's on Hanbin today!"

Collective cheers incited from the group and Hayi couldn't help but be contaminated with their happiness.

Hanbin scowled and pushed Bobby by shoving his face away. "Who said that? Getting an A is not something to celebrate about."

"But if someone like you gets an A, it calls for a celebration," Bobby retorted while folding his arms. He was asking for it.

Hanbin furrowed his brows and it was obvious that his temper was going to flare out anytime soon. "Someone like me?"

Chanwoo interjected before a fight could even start, putting himself in the middle of the two. "Hyungs, let's celebrate already. I'll treat you Hanbin hyung."

The aforementioned person just nodded in delight, instantly dispelling the on-going rage he was feeling earlier.

The discussion ended like that and they were already on their feet out of the room.

"But, the class..." Hayi attempted to inform the group, but they were already outside. Her words awkwardly hang in the air. Those kids... Really troublesome kids...

Chanwoo's face appeared by the door then. He went back inside and dragged Hayi by her wrist, not making room for objections. "We will not leave without you."

Hayi just let herself get dragged away. When she was outside, she could see the group playing around the hallway. Bobby jumping and shooting some imaginary hoops, Junhoe terrorizing Donghyuk with his unnecessary complains, Yunhyeong smacking on his favorite lip balm for the nth time, Jinhwan trying to calm the group down, and Hanbin walking along the sidelines with his hands on his pockets, watching them from behind.

The duo caught up with them and as they did so, Chanwoo casually gave her hand to Hanbin's before running off with his other hyungs.

"Thank you Hayi," he sincerely uttered as he squeezed her hand.

"The credit goes to you, Binnie," she replied as she squeezed his hand back.

-📚📚📚-

The group gave them their time alone together after celebrating, with Junhoe dragging the two away and didn't forget to remark, "get out of our faces before we catch you snogging your faces off."

The couple decided to settle on the big oak tree at the backyard of the school. It was their favorite spot.

As usual, they sat at the lush green grass side by side, with Hayi leaning on Hanbin's shoulder.

Hanbin suddenly tapped her on the shoulder, who was just in the brink of closing her eyes because the soft breeze was lulling her to sleep.

"Hayi."

"What is it?" she asked as she rubbed her eyes to stay awake.

She didn't need any answer as she saw the meaningful look on his face. He was being his mischievous side again. "My Hayi... My baby Hayi..."

She almost laughed at his endearments. "What?"

He leaned closer and started twirling some strands of her hair. "You know..." he began with a husky voice, almost seductive. "Where's my reward?"

She didn't hesitate to close the gap between them to give him a kiss on the lips. She stood still at that moment, savoring the feeling of his lips pressed against hers. It didn't fail to make her feel like on cloud nine every time their lips touch.

Feeling shy about initiating it first, she broke away. She knew she was blushing a lot by now. Her gaze lowered, suddenly finding the grass beneath them to be interesting. Beneath the curtain of her hair, she could feel his smoldering gaze directed at her.

"Hayi," he summoned, his voice noticeably lowering.

"...Yeah?"

"That's not how you do it."

And before she knew it, he leaned again and held her cheek. He took his lips against hers. The only difference between them was he did it confidently. He started closing his eyes and found herself doing the same. His kisses worked like magic for her. The fireworks hadn't subsided even if they did this for numerous times already. She was feeling lightheaded and felt like she was on cloud nine all over again. He nibbled her lip and deepened the kiss. He was her drug and his kisses were her medicine. And it worked like that for the two of them.

Hayi was the one to break away. She was breathless from the mind-bending kiss she had with Hanbin. Afterward, she leaned her head against his shoulder, automatically making him wrap her to his embrace.

"Man, studying really has great rewards. Challenge me again?" he kidded raggedly in between breaths. He was glowing with flushed cheeks with a shameless grin curving the corners of his lips.

She punched him playfully in the chest. But thought that the idea was actually good. It would make her look forward to his kisses again.

"If it means making you read a lot of boring books, then I'll gladly take the offer."

His arms around her waist went up to grasp the side of her head, drawing her nearer to him and planted a soft kiss on her forehead. "Thanks for your effort, Hayi. I really mean it."

She just beamed at him in return. And together, the couple basked in the shade under the tree, where their world only mattered for that moment.

THE END.
