Part 1

Our Last Hour -Trilogy-
The last minute of the clock just hit 12, signalling the last 60 seconds of her winter holiday. She closed her eyelid, waited time to passed and enter the dreamland. The sound of the clock can still be heard from her bed. Chilly wind entered through the small gap on the window and hit into the room. Completely fell into her dream land. Emily couldn’t sense anything around her that made a slight movement. “Emily, I’m sorry…” A voice whispered into her mind. She opened her eyes just to find out that the sun had shone into her room through the window, Emily grabbed the clock beside her bed and checked the time. Putting back the clock, she gave out a soft yawn and a morning stretch while still sitting on her bed. She then slowly moved both of her legs down her bed and slipped both of them into the slipper that was placed under the bed. Walked her way down to the bathroom, she started her daily routine by picking up her toothbrush and apply some toothpaste on it. A shower followed up after that. After changing into her winter school uniform, she placed the 2 toast from the toaster that she prepared beforehand into a plate and applied some strawberry jam on it and had her simple morning breakfast The minute needle of the wall clock hit 12, Emily picked up her bag that is on the chair next to her dining table, put on her snow gloves and scarf then leave her apartment. Walking down the old street, the only way to her college from her apartment. The chilly wind hit onto Emily’s skin, making her shiver in cold as she walked alongside the walkway while stepping on the snow. “I guess it’s still really cold around the time like this, should have wear my jacket.” As Emily reached her college, she went straight to her class and start to prepare for the first lecture of the day. A girl with a black side ponytail entered the room and walk towards Emily’s sit. She then took her laptop out from her bag and placed it onto Emily table and sat next to her. “You’re almost late again, Sora. Should really change that habit of yours soon.” “You can’t blame me about It, Emily. You know I’m weak for winter and also Miura being a drag since this morning.” “So I see you two are at it again huh.” Sora let out a long sigh and start up her laptop “So what is today’s topic about again?” Sora asked Emily regarding today’s lecture as she arranged the previous data on her laptop “Professor John will be conducting a lecture about butterfly effect as for today.” “I see.” Sora replied to the answer that Emily gave and continue to concentrate on her laptop as she types. Soon later, the school bell started to ring and that started the first lecture of the day. A middle-aged man with beard and wearing a pair of brown spectacle walked into the classroom, followed up by 2 good looking young men around the age of twenties. The middle-aged man, Professor John, cleared his throat and began to speak “Alright students, before I start with our butterfly effects today. Let me introduce to you to the 2 new transfer students that we have with us today.” Professor John instantly take out his marker pen and wrote 2 names on the whiteboard behind him. The young man with a shorter and straighter hair take a step forward to the class and made a self-introduction for himself with a clear voice. “Good morning, everyone. My name is Allen Grey. Raivo and I just moved to this town a couple of week ago so nice to meet you all.” Followed up by Allen’s introduction, the other man next to him also took a step forward for a self-introduction but in a different approach in compare to that of Allen’s “The name is Raivo Ainsley, please to meet you all.” After the self-introduction, both of them were instructed by Professor John to choose an empty seat and settle themselves down. Both of them walked toward their selected empty seat. Raivo stop at a place and sat down on a chair that is near to Emily’s. Emily took out her notes from her bag then placed it on the table before Professor John starts his lecture. It didn’t take a while for her to notice that Raivo is staring her her. She faced him and let out a bright smile. “Nice to meet you, Raivo.” Professor John started his lecture by writing down 2 words on the board with his marker, “Butterfly Effects” and start to explain about it. With almost all her concentration, Emily try to ignore the surrounding and focusing on the speech of Professor John himself as he starts. “One who travel through times, be it to the past or the future, Butterfly Effects will occur with no exception. So what exactly is this butterfly effect? Does it have anything to do with butterfly?” After the following sentences, Professor John again, used his marker pen to draw 2 slanting oval connecting to one another that resemble a butterfly. “Tell me, Miss Emily, what do you see on this board?” Emily stood up and answered the given question. “A picture that is supposed to give us a rough idea of butterfly effect…I supposed?” Received that kind of answer from Emily, Professor John shows a sour expression and scratched the backside of his neck. “Well, I guess you’re right. Please sit down, thank you.” “Thank you, Professor John.” Emily took her seat. Pointing at the drawn pic on the whiteboard and follows up with some gesture, Professor John start to explain about butterfly effects. He talked for about 2 hours with some students asked some question and also some case that happened in a form of butterfly effect in the past. “To put it bluntly, butterfly effect is caused by something that ignored the rules of time and passed through it. In result, creating side effects that distorted the flow of correct time in a way similar to that of a ripple effect.” By the time that the lecture came to an end, Emily packed her stuff back into her and leaved the lecturer classroom. Before leaving, Emily walked near to Allen and Raivo while her hand gripped onto the strap of her bag to greet them personally and a more proper way. “Nice to meet you, Raivo and….Allen?” “Yup, that’s me.” Allen replied in a refreshing tone as soon as Emily stuttered his name while greeting them. “Alright, do you guys wanna join us to walk around the town since you guys just moved here recently?” “us?” “Yeah, us. My friend, Sora will be tagging along as usual.” As the conversation goes, Sora who had done packing her things up, walked towards Emily. “I think I’ll pass. You can go with them, Allen.” Raivo, who sat next to Allen suddenly speak out when he’s been on silent all this time. Seeing Raivo’s reply, Allen lean closer to him and whispered something into his ear that instantly changed his decision. “Well, I guess I’ll accompany Allen then.” Sora then gently hit onto Emily’s back to give her a small push and wrap up the conversation. “Alright, with the group settled. Let’s go explore!” The group exit the room from the first exit and walked their way down to a small shopping district. As they walk, small chatters started to be heard in the small group of four. Started by Allen himself. “Say, Emily. What make you decided to study in a small town here in Japan?” Emily adverted her head to look at Allen then changed her point of view toward the sky. "Will I love the atmosphere around this place and also her culture be a good answer for you?" "Hmm, legit enough." "What about the two of you? Why did you moved here?" "We're....errr, well..." As seem as Allen is struggling to look for the words to finish up his sentence, Raivo who was being silent the whole trip suddenly speak out in order to back up Allen's sentence. "We're here to look for someone." "A relative?" "...." Raivo choose to submit into silent that kinda added some tension and Allen on the other side, tried to ease up the atmosphere a little bit. He walked near Sora who is walking beside Emily and asked if there's any nice play to dine in. As per Sora's suggestion, the group arrived at a chinese ramen store near an amusement park located in the shopping district. “Wow, so this is the ramen that I heard so much about. Delicious!” Allen exclaimed in excitement as he swallowed the first spoon of his roasted beef ramen and expression of satisfactory floated out on his face. After that, he dig in the second spoon and continue without being interrupted. On the other side, next to Allen. Raivo stared at his bowl of ramen and remain untouched. His expression is saying that something is bothering him. “What’s wrong, Raivo. It doesn’t suit your taste?” “No, that’s not it. Something is just in my mind.” As his silence being disturbed by Emily. Raivo picked up his chopstick and began to dig in. “How was it?” Emily asked a question as soon as Raivo swallowed. “Yeah, it’s delicious.” Suddenly, a surge of pain drift directly into Emily’s head, caused her to drop her chopsticks and placed a hand on her head then the other on the table to prevent herself from falling off. But the pain didn’t last long, it remained about a couple of seconds before disappearing. It startled everyone in the group. Within that pain, slides of images appeared in Emily’s head. Images about her and the current group of people doing the same thing at the same place. As if it’s deja vu. “Emily, what’s wrong?!” “.....I think saw something...but I can’t remember it.” “You sounds like those character in anime. Are you sure you’re okay?” “I’m fine, probably the cold got to me.” After making sure she’s fine and had Sora to check if anything’s wrong with her head. Emily requested a new pair of chopsticks from the shop’s owner. With the said incident happened. Allen and Raivo looked at each other with a surprised yet serious look. “Sora, you should accompany her back to her place after this meal.” “Alright.” “Raivo and I will need to head back to our apartment soon. Something came up.” As the meal came to an end. They parted away with each other as Sora accompanied Emily back to her apartment. “Sorry about this, guys. I’m the one who said to show you around the town.” “It’s alright, we can do it some other days. Go back and take some rest for now.” Raivo cares Emily verbally with a softer voice that was never heard up until now. “Alright, see the both of you at college in the next two days.” With that said, Raivo and Allen headed back to the apartment that is located near an abandoned factory. Both sat down at a near a dining table with a strange clock that shaped like a tower on it and stared at each other. “What we hoped not to happen, is happened at last.” Hearing that, Raivo clenched his fist against another with angers and sadness coming out from him. “Raivo, if you want to save her. This is your last chance!” Allen switched out from his easy going personality to a serious and collected one as he talk. “This is the last timeline we can enter. I’m sure you’re clear with that.” “....I do.” “Judging from your expression, I know what you’re thinking but that won’t work this time. At least not in this timeline!” “I know but there’s not much time left! We have to remove the singularity!” Raivo raised his voice to help him get rid of some of his anger built up but it didn’t show much effect. His soul is on the edge of termination. “....I’m sorry.” “There should be a way to solve this…” All of the sudden, a name surfaced up Allen’s mind. A last word from their lost comrade. “John Sphivot.” “.....” “Ofcourse! Professor John Sphivot. Our lecturer.” Raivo, again, adverted his vision to Allen as the said name was mentioned. One of the known human that aren’t affected by the alpha timeline. Both of them planned to meet him up right after Monday’s lecture. At the same time, small and temporary pain continue to surge through Emily’s head and the same phenomena repeated itself.
