Final

For Shamma

She had always loved the way his fingers danced gracefully along with each and every strums he made on his guitar. The look in his eyes tells the passion he has for music, and whenever he starts getting into his own little world, she was absorbed into his world just by watching him. The streams of beautiful vocal chords match so well with the lyrics he wrote by himself, flows smoothly down her ears and it felt amazing. His music healed her, she felt as if her scars has faded whenever she listens to him singing. He's beautiful, he shines. and in her eyes, no one else shone brighter than him.

His name is, Kim Moon Chul.

She had always carried her sketchbook with her wherever she goes, she tends to draw out her thoughts instead of speaking aloud with words. Whatever's on her mind, filled the blank pages with lines and ink. And recently, her mind was full of him. She flipped through her sketchbook again and again. The pages have been flooded with his figures, when he was playing the guitar, be it acoustic, classic or electric. He looked too good and she couldn't help but to draw. Then, there was this page where it was full with his faces, all from different angles, wearing different clothes, but the smile that was imprinted on her heart, stays the same in every sketches she's drawn of him.

Doodling her thoughts again in her room, she couldn't help but to think of Moon and before she knew it, her hands worked themselves and his face appeared on the paper again. She frowned at her own work, thinking that it's impossible for a person like him to develop feelings for her. She had always been treated just like how he treats any other ladies out there, what's worse is that she had always been treated like a friend which she felt comfortable with, but she couldn't help wanting more of his attention; she wants more than just being friends.

And to him, she was like an old storybook, those kinds that you will find hidden in one of the dusty boxes you kept in the storage room. She'll be that one book that held deep meaning behind each sentence, and a painful story behind every happy ending. At the first glance, she looks like a really awkward and quiet person, but just like the book, the more you read, the more you will understand. And once you get to know her, the more you are to be attracted to her. When they first met through a mutual friend, the friend introduced her as someone who "loves bands in general". Moon thought she was interesting because she looked nothing like what he was told of her. Soon enough when he got to know more about her, he eventually finds that he couldn't take his eyes off her.

And now to another road trip, with both of them at it again. They went for road trips together, just both of them, they're not a couple, but had always enjoyed each other's presence as friends. He'll be the one driving and she'll be the one sitting down next to him, as the both of them shared a comfortable silence, one of their favourite bands' song will be playing in the background. They had never planned where they'd go, Moon was always the one who did the driving, and he'll go to the outskirts of the city where they're living in. Going somewhere randomly, and depending on the GPS when they're heading back home. It didn't matter to her, how they end up in a different city, how they often got lost and getting home late; and most importantly, she didn't mind staying by his side.

They agreed to head to the beach because of the nice weather and she wanted to change her drawing subject from a certain person going by the name of a planet to drawing sceneries. So they went out in the late afternoon, planning to reach the ocean by the time before the sun sets so they could watch the dusk fall. As usual, Moon was driving while tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, going by the beat of the song playing in the background and she was also listening quietly while staring at the view outside the car window. After listening to three albums, they have finally reached the ocean.

"We're here." Moon said as he unbuckled his seat belt, and paused to look at the girl beside him, who obviously fell asleep during the long car ride. He waited for a short while before poking her cheeks and waking her up, "We're here already."

She opened her eyes groggily, and answered him with a soft hum. Both of them then opened the door and breathed in the smell of ocean. She stretched her stiff body and said, "Feels good to be here!" with a smile. The weather was great and they were just in time to watch the sun slowing falling to the horizon.

"Come on." Moon spoke, "Let's go find a place to sit down and watch the sunset." Moon said as he took his guitar out from the back of his car. She nodded and followed him, holding her backpack filled with things she needed for drawing.

They chose a spot on the beach where the grass grows and sat down next to each other. She felt a bit shy though, this looks so much like a date since it's the first time they sat so close together when going out. Normally, Moon will keep a safe distance between them which she could safely call it as a "friendzone". It felt weird today, it felt as if they came here as lovers and certainly, she could not stop the butterflies that were forming in her stomach. She tried to calm herself down and she diverted her attention to the sun- it has yet to descend to the horizon yet. She admired the colours of the sky, fading from blue to orange, the rays dyed the clouds with an orange highlight as the cool breeze caressed her face softly. She continued watching the sun and a sudden strum of guitar surprised her. She turned her head to look at the man beside her, preparing to play his acoustic guitar. He started plucking, humming to an unknown tune softly as he gazed at the beautiful sun setting. It felt peaceful, she was always amazed at how his music can bring calm and comfort to heal her broken insides. She smiled and enjoyed the symphony of his guitar and his voice. The light of the sky slowly fades and the sun finally disappears below the horizon.

It was not long after the sun sets, he stopped playing his guitar. He noticed she still has her eyes fixated on the already dark sky. She sat in a way with her legs crossed and she was hugging her bag. Moon was curious to why she hasn't drawn anything on her sketchbook just like she usually do.

Moon cleared his throat. "Aren't you going to draw anything?" he said softly, afraid to break the peaceful vibe if he had spoken too loud.

"Huh?" She turned her head to look at him, with a puzzled look.

"I thought you wanted to draw the sunset?" He repeated. She probably had her mind off somewhere.

"Ahh. Yeah I was. But I brought the wrong sketchbook with me today." She laughed dryly. She remembered how she was rushing out of home today and took the wrong sketchbook which looks exactly the same as the one Moon saw before. All these while, she had only showed him the sketchbook with sceneries she drew when they go for road trips together, she had not showed him the other sketchbook which is more personal, almost like her diary entries.

Moon put his guitar away to his side, placing it on top of his guitar cover. "Can I see?" He asked with a kiddish smile, hoping for her to agree.

"No you can't." She refused and hugged her bag tightly. Moon then gave her the 'aww-come-on' look. He sighed and scooted closer to her.

"But you'd always show them to me." He said with a pout. She frowned at his childish act and shook her head. She tightened her grasp on her bag, scooting away from him. 'This guy thinks he's cute but no', she thought.

Without any warning, he closed the distance she tried so hard to make, and now their faces are just inches apart. He was staring into her eyes, as if he could see through her soul. Appalled, she gasped. She was still in shock when she heard him laughing his heart out.

"Hahaha, your face though." He laughed whole-heartedly. He wiped a tear away with his fingers, still laughing.

"Stop laughing! You scared me--" She snapped out of her thoughts and was about to scold him but paused when she saw her bag on his lap. "Hey!" she quickly moved forward to grab her bag but too late, Moon was already taking out the black sketchbook from her bag. She reached out to snatch the book away but Moon held the book up high above his head so she couldn't reach it.

"Give it back!" she exclaimed, still struggling to get a hold on the book. 'He can't find out about the sketches, absolutely not.' she thought helplessly.

"No." he said in a serious tone and she stopped her actions, giving up since she looked pathetic acting this way. She felt her heart racing when he flipped open the sketchbook.

Silence fell upon them and it sure was awkward as hell. She could only hear him turning the pages of the sketchbook and she felt like disappearing into the dark night sky.

She looked away to the navy sky, not wanting to face this situation that she just got herself in. 'Why did I bring the wrong sketchbook? Now our friendship is ruined." she thought bitterly.

"You-" Moon started, "drew me." He ran his fingers through the delicate dents of the sketches that were drawn with pen.

"Was I this handsome?" He breathed out a laugh. "These drawings of me are really nice." He said gratefully. He noted the silence between them, now that he knew what was in the sketchbook that she didn't want him to know about, he felt a tinge of excitement. Mutual feelings, he thought. And he also felt that his feelings towards her grow more, just like the vines, stretching out and growing.

Finally, he closed the sketchbook and he saw her, hiding her face in her hands. He felt her nervousness, and so he decided to take a step forward.

"Do you... like me?" He said slowly, unsure of how to begin.

    There was no reply.

She felt her chest clutching tightly. What?

"Hey..." he reached out and removed her hands from her face. Her hands were cold, Moon cursed himself silently for not offering her his jacket.

His voice made her weak, and it took no effort for him to pry her hands off her face. Moon stared into her teary eyes, still holding her hands, hoping to warm her up somehow. Her eyes glistened as it reflected the moonlight, and Moon couldn't stop the overwhelming feelings for her.

    "I love you."

She couldn't believe her ears. Did he just confessed?

The bright moonlight shone upon them, illuminating them with a silver glow. They continued looking into each other's eyes and she swear to Heavens, those eyes are so mesmerizing. His eyes reflected the moonlight and his skin was practically glowing. 'Damn, is God running a search for a missing angel? Because I think I found one.' she kept the thought to herself. She finds it funny how this thought came up when they're in this position where he's still holding her hands. She bit her lower lip to restrain herself from laughing at that thought.

Moon who obviously could tell that she was holding in a laughter raised his brows in curiosity.

What a mood killer.

"What's funny?" he spoke as he tilted his head a little bit. Was he not sincere enough?

"Nothing, not something that you should know about." She finally spoke, her voice sounded a bit strained. She breathed out a laugh and her lips twitched upward to form a smile. As she watched him furrowing his brows, she couldn't help but to feel proud because she had just made him feel even more curious than before.

"Fine." he squeezed her hands. "So? What's your reply?" he asked, turning the mood back to a serious one.

    "Well, yes? Of course?"

"Is that a question?" He laughed again. She still felt tingly due to his touch.

He then let go of her hands, and pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her. She was shocked, and she awkwardly put her arms around him as well.

"You have no idea how long have I waited for this to happen." He whispered into her ears, sending chills down her spine.

They stayed like that for a while, and then they broke the hug from each other.

"Should we head back now?" Moon asked looking at the night sky spotted with bright stars.

"Not sure about you, but I'm sure that I want to stay here longer." She answered, gazing upon the stars that shone the brightest near the moon.

"I want to stay in this moment forever." He mumbled truthfully. She heard it well and clear, and that made her feel embarrassed, to think that they actually shared the same feelings towards each other.

"I like you too." She said out of nowhere and Moon was taken aback by her words. He felt heat creeping up from his neck to his face when she said that.

Then he heard her laughing.

"Aww, you're blushing." He felt even more flushed.

"So what if I am?" he retorted, glaring at her. He gave up being mad at her after seeing her cheerful smile and laughter. 'This is so unfair,' he thought.

Without any warning, again, he put his hands at the back of her head and pulled her into a kiss.
