Final

Of Thunderstorms and Popcorn

"Did you get the popcorn?" Asked Jungkook.

"Yup, I got two bowls of them. There's more in the kitchen if you want a refill." Replied Aeri, from the kitchen.

It was a typical scene and page out of Jungkook and Aeri's friendship log. Jungkook and Aeri have been best friends ever since they were babies since they were neighbours. And watching a movie together every Friday night was one of the usual things that they did together, except when they were studying for exams or tests. The two best friends were at Jungkook's house this time and their parents were both out for the weekend and wouldn't be back until Sunday afternoon.

"What movie did you pick?" Asked Aeri, coming out of the kitchen with two bowls of popcorn.

"Iron Man 3." Grinned Jungkook, triumphantly.

"I got the DVD from Seokjin hyung's family shop. He reserved it especially for us." Added Jungkook, proudly as he placed the disk into the DVD player.

Aeri and Jungkook's friend and school senior, Kim Seokjin's family owned the local video shop where there were maybe different genres and types of movies and shows for rental. Seokjin always reserved the DVDs for them prior and they were always the first to watch the movies when the DVDs are released. But Seokjin's father always gave them a discount on the rental since they rented a movie almost every week and they were one of his most regular customers.

Aeri handed Jungkook his bowl of popcorn and she plopped down on the seat beside him. Aeri glanced over at Jungkook as he ate his popcorn silently as he watched the initial advertisements. Aeri shook her head before turning her attention back to the movie which was starting. But of course, Aeri wasn't really concentrating during the movie, she stole glances at Jungkook every few minutes. Aeri had a major crush on Jungkook but she didn't want to ruin their friendship by confessing to him so she kept her feelings to herself.

Aeri turned her attention back to the movie just moments before Jungkook let out a groan. Aeri turned to Jungkook and she shook her head when she realised that Jungkook had finished his popcorn. Aeri gently nudged Jungkook, offering him her bowl of popcorn, and he gave her his signature bunny grin in response. Jungkook pulled Aeri closer to him, causing the girl to blush at the sudden action and contact.

"Sorry, I didn't want to move and the popcorn is a little far away." Grinned Jungkook sheepishly.

Aeri simply shook her head but inwardly she felt a little disappointed.

"Of course it's because of the popcorn, not because he likes you and he wanted to hug you pabo!" Aeri mentally chided herself.

But Aeri couldn't help but blush every time their fingers brushed past each other while reaching for popcorn. This went on for about twenty minutes before Jungkook took the two bowls and got up from the couch.

"I'm getting refills." Said Jungkook simply.

Aeri nodded but she couldn't help but feel a little empty without Jungkook beside her. Aeri hugged a pillow before a loud lap and a sudden flash of light caused the entire house to be shrouded in a sudden scene of darkness and silence. Aeri immediately let out a shriek at the sudden clap and flash of light as she hugged her pillow tightly. Aeri could faintly hear some clanging sounds from the kitchen but she was too scared to be thinking about it.

Aeri shivered as she hugged her pillow tightly before she heard her name being called.

"Aeri! Are you alright?" Came the calming and soothing voice of Jungkook's.

Aeri looked up only to see a beam of light from a distance, which seemed to be getting nearer to her. The light soon disappeared and Aeri heard shuffling from beside her as another loud clap was heard. Aeri gave a muffled scream into her pillow before she felt a pair of warm arms wrap around her, bringing her into an embrace.

"It's going to be alright, Aeri. It's just a simple blackout. I'm here, I won't disappear on you." Whispered Jungkook, soothingly while patting Aeri's back.

Jungkook knew that Aeri was terrified of thunderstorms after she was locked in a janitor's closet by some older kids when they were in their first year in elementary. And there happened to be a thunderstorm during that incident, causing Aeri to be scared of thunderstorms as well as developing claustrophobia ever since that incident.

Jungkook couldn't do much but hold Aeri in his arms and comfort her. Jungkook gently held Aeri in his embrace as she relaxed at his gentle touch. Jungkook felt his cheeks heat up when he realised what position he and Aeri were in before mentally cursing himself.

Jungkook and Aeri didn't move from that position for twenty minutes and Aeri didn't scream or shriek whenever a loud thunderclap sounded because of Jungkook's gentle and calming touch and hug. The rain still wasn't letting up but the flashes of lightning and loud thunderclaps seemed to have stopped.

Aeri blushed when she realised how close Jungkook and her bodies were.

"Sorry to always trouble you, Jungkook. Thanks for calming me down and looking out for me." Spoke Aeri, looking at Jungkook in the eyes.

Aeri then tried to break the hug but Jungkook's strong arms refused to let her go. And all this happened while Jungkook was still staring into Aeri's beautiful eyes.

"Can't we stay like this for a little while longer?" Asked Jungkook, almost whining sadly.

Aeri blushed before she shyly slipped her arms back around Jungkook's torso. Aeri then leaned her head on Jungkook's chest, listening to the boy's heartbeat. It was powerful but at times irregular, as if the boy were nervous about something. Aeri smiled and snuggled into Jungkook's chest, letting the girl hear the boy's heartbeat even closer and clearer.

Jungkook smiled when he felt Aeri snuggling into his chest and he tightened his grip around Aeri's waist. Jungkook gulped silently before he decided to take a gamble and pop the question.

"Aeri, saranghae." Whispered Jungkook.

Jungkook felt his heart drop in disappointment when he felt Aeri's body stiffening up but his disappointment soon faded when he felt Aeri hugging him tightly.

"Nado saranghae." Whispered Aeri, shyly.

"You mean that it was mutual all along? If I had known earlier, I would have confessed earlier! And I wouldn't have to hide how I felt about you." Gasped Jungkook.

Aeri giggled, "I didn't want to confess because I didn't want to ruin our friendship. If anything, I was waiting for you to say it."

"But it all worked out in the end. We both confessed to each other." Said Jungkook.

Aeri shifted in her seat slightly causing Jungkook to look at her curiously.

"Jungkook, are we um official now?" Mumbled Aeri, embarrassedly.

Jungkook chuckled amusedly before he nodded, "Of course we are! Although in all honesty, I've always considered our movie nights as dates."

"Me too." Admitted Aeri, shyly.

"I guess we were both too shy to confess and this thunderstorm gave us the push that we needed to confess." Laughed Jungkook.

Aeri's melodious laughter made Jungkook smile before he placed a gentle kiss on Aeri's forehead.

"I love you, Han Aeri."

"I love you too, Jeon Jungkook."
