13.12.2015 (Christmas Lights)
Winter WonderlandDaehyun and Youngjae had decided to make holidays in the USA for Christmas. Work had been tiring and they just wanted to spend a week all by themselves, without annoying phone calls or e-mails interrupting the little time they had together. When they stepped out of the plane they faced a lot of things that left them in awe right away. Everything seemed so busy and every few meters were beautiful Christmas ornaments blinking in colourful lights. It was wonderful.
Although people in Korea celebrated Christmas as well, it had just fascinated Daehyun how much effort and love people there put into this holidays once a year. After resting for a few hours, they decided to walk around the town an discover the area. Another good point was that here, they didn't have to hold hands in secret, they didn't have to pretend they were only friends because here, no one cared.
For a few days, they were living in a dream world, eating in fancy restaurants, going shopping, visiting the most famous places in this area. It was Christmas eve when Daehyun persuaded Youngjae to go for a late night walk, way too late for Youngjae's liking but the atmosphere was so nice that he decided a little walk would not hurt. He let Daehyun lead him through the streets as they were talking about this and that, pointing at houses that had stunning Christmas decorations.
They walked around the corner and Youngjae found himself in the middle of a street where on the left and the right, every house was glowing in the most beautiful way. He couldn't close his mouth because he was so in awe and he took out his phone to take a few pictures.
“This is beautiful,” Youngjae breathed and took Daehyun's hand again. He wanted to go further and explore the rest of the houses. It seemed like all neighbours had made an arrangement to tell a story with their decorations because they all were fitting together perfectly. There was just one house that was completely enveloped in darkness, it stood out there all lonely and dark and Youngjae couldn't help but stop in front of it. “This house looks so pitiful in between all the others,” Youngjae said. “Yeah,” Daehyun chuckles. “Do you think the owners are on holiday?” Youngjae asked.
“They are,” Daehyun said with so much confidence that his lover turned around to look at him questioningly. Suddenly, Daehyun looked nervous and picked on the sleeves of his jacket. “You know,” Daehyun started and his lips. “My boss asked me to transfer to our branch in the US to take up a leading position.” There was a moment where Youngjae just looked at the other and waited for him to continue. “And I said yes.”
For a moment, Youngjae's head was spinning, was that the end of it, of them? Youngjae wanted to take his hand out of Daehyun's grip but the other squeezed his hand tightly, it was warm and comfortable. “I was hoping you would move here with me,” Daehyun said and now he pulled out a key from his pocket.
Youngjae didn't need long to put one and one together, realizing that this key was for exactly that house they were standing in front of. He needed even less time to throw his arms around Daehyun's neck and kiss him until they both were out of breath and whisper the 'yes' that Daehyun had been hoping for.
