The Sweetness of an Apple

"Jinyoung-ah, come help peel the apple for dessert!" Jaebum called from the kitchen where he took out a few apples from the fridge. Jinyoung stood from where he sat with the other JYP trainees, soon to be members of a boy group called Got7.

Their debut was in a week, and they had just finished doing their first ever photoshoot that morning. Jaebum and Jinyoung, having been slightly more experienced from already debuting as JJproject, decided to celebrate the occasion by cooking the other trainees dinner.

It was tough for the former JJproject members to get used to being part of a larger group, but they were slowly getting more and more accustomed to it through small events such as this; the dinner was a great excuse to get closer. The boys shared many stories and laughs while eating, and even learned some new facts about each other.

Jaebum and Jinyoung were satisfied with the result of the night. But what better way to top it off with some peeled apple for dessert?

"Coming, Jaebum-hyung!" The younger vocalist called, making his way toward the kitchen.

"I'll help.." A small but deep voice sounded from behind him, causing the black-haired male to turn. Mark was standing awkwardly, his fiery hair still sticking out in multiple directions from the hairspray sprayed in it earlier today.

Jinyoung was slightly surprised. Mark was the quietest out of the trainees, and always seemed reserved, as if he didn't want to be bothered. He had opened up a little bit to Jinyoung in the past, however, which he was grateful for. But he was even more grateful that he had opened up a little more to the rest of the trainees tonight as well, laughing his high-pitched laugh and even telling some stories of his time in LA. Maybe he was grateful for the opportunity to become closer too, and that's why he wanted to help out with dessert.

"Oh, thanks hyung!" Jinyoung smiled at the redhead before the two made their way into the kitchen. Jaebum had already begun peeling with slight difficulty. "Here, let me try."

Jinyoung took the apple and knife from Jaebum and began peeling it effortlessly. The rest of the peel came off in one long strand, leaving the other two males gawking in surprise. Neither knew of this little talent Jinyoung apparently had.

Mark grabbed an apple and attempted to peel like he'd seen Jinyoung do it, but he simply didn't have the same skill. Instead of giving it a few more tries, the redhead found his gaze constantly glancing to the black-haired vocalist. It seemed to come so naturally to him. With Jinyoung's gaze resting attentively on the fruit, the peel came off within seconds.

Fortunately, both Jinyoung and Jaebum were so focused on peeling that they didn't catch Mark staring.

Perhaps that was when Mark first fell for Jinyoung.

---

"But Jinyoungie, I want apple!" Mark whined, hitting Jinyoung's shoulder with mock stubbornness.

The older barely showed aegyo, only when he wanted something. And he definitely wanted something. Ever since before their debut as Got7, Mark had always tried to catch Jinyoung peeling fruit. He couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was about it that made the rapper's heart beat a little faster, but he decided not to question it.

"I'm trying to read, hyung. Can you wait until I finish this chapter?" Jinyoung sighed softly, his gaze scanning the pages.

Mark pouted but complied, settling on glancing around the room as he waited. After a mere minute, Mark got inpatient again. "Are you done yet?"

Jinyoung, despite being slightly annoyed, let out a soft chuckle. "Not yet."

Mark frowned, but instead of shifting his gaze again he kept it settled on the vocalist. It had become a bit of a habit for Mark to stare at Jinyoung. It wasn't intentional, it just happened.

Jinyoung could feel the boy's gaze on him, distracting him a bit from his reading. Nonetheless, he tried finishing up quickly for him. He smiled as he read the last sentence of the chapter and closed the book. "Alright, let's eat some apple!" The black-haired male would be lying to himself if he said he didn't like the reaction Mark had. The blonde had sprung up from the futon with a grin, racing to the door.

"Let's go!"

The two members had to be quiet as they made their way into the kitchen. The rest of Got7 was most likely asleep, it currently being 2am

Jinyoung opened the fridge and pulled out two apples, one for each of them. He handed one to Mark as he grabbed some knives from the silverware drawer. He still hadn't caught on to the fact that Mark only wanted to watch him peel, not peel himself. Mark brought his knife up to his apple but instead of beginning to peel it, his gaze just rested on Jinyoung.

He was so focused as he peeled, yet the action seemed so natural to him. He really was like the mother of Got7.

As the entire skin of Jinyoung's apple came off in one strand, he shot a glance in Mark's direction. He sighed when he saw the rapper's apple completely unpeeled and set down his own apple on a plate. "Here, give me that."

That was all it took for Mark's heart to skip a beat.

Once both apples had been peeled, Jinyoung took the centers out and chopped the fruit into a few pieces while Mark watched. The vocalist didn't really mind doing all the work, he actually just enjoyed Mark's company. But Jinyoung would never admit that.

"Thanks Jinyoungie." The older smiled as Jinyoung set the plate down on the table for them. They both sat, each skewering a piece with a toothpick for themselves. Before Mark could put his piece in his mouth, however, Jinyoung held his own out to him.

"Here, I peeled it for you."

Mark felt heat rising to his face as he sputtered a thank you and accepted the apple being fed to him. The older silently thanked the room for being dark so that Jinyoung wouldn't be able to see how red his cheeks were. Why did a simple gesture like that make his chest tighten so much?

Neither said much else as they both munched on the fruit. For some unknown reason, however, both members couldn't help small smiles from creeping onto their faces time to time.

The plate was empty when Jinyoung checked his phone for the time. The younger's eyes widened as he looked at the screen, "When did it get to be 3am?" Mark just shrugged, standing and bringing the plate to the kitchen. Since Jinyoung had done all the peeling, the least he could do was wash the dishes. Even so, Jinyoung ended up helping out with the drying anyway.

"Goodnight Mark-hyung." Jinyoung smiled at the older as they stood in front of Mark and Jackson's room. Mark smiled back, but had a sudden urge to do something.

"Goodnight Jinyoungie," the blonde held Jinyoung's wrists as he placed a gentle kiss on the younger's forehead, "thanks for the apple. Sleep well." Before his hands could start sweating too much, Mark quickly let go of Jinyoung's wrists and escaped into his own room. All that was left outside was a frazzled Jinyoung with red cheeks and a flustered smile.

Yup, Mark had definitely fallen for Jinyoung back then.
