Before one can ask who is Kim Taehyung, they must ask what is Kim Taehyung. Taehyung, himself, has been asking the same question for years. He doesn't belong to any sort of species, and, as far as he's seen, he's one of a kind. Sure, he looks like your average human being physically, but that was not the case.
Kim taehyung doesn't have parents, or any family for that matter. In fact, Taehyung's birth is quite a mystery--perhaps a miracle. Twenty-one years ago, an oyster lost a pearl. And from that lost pearl, and something like magic, burst a miniature being, no larger than a coin. The tiny creature lived and grew amongst the safety of anenomies, friendly algae-eaters, and more predators than he could count. For five years, he roamed the waters, inevitably becoming the size of an average human child of his age. At this size, he could no longer survive on the reef easily, and was washed ashore. There, his gills disappated, and he slowly learned to walk and use his lungs.
He managed to survive on his own for a year, before being found and taken in by an old witch. She raised him henceforth silently... Although, raised wasn't the word Taehyung would use. He'd actually only seen her three times in the entire time he had known her. Mostly, she had named him, enrolled him in school, supplied him with a portion of her extensive riches, and allowed her house, which she seldom stayed in, to watch after him. Haunted paintings and dust-bins with minds of their own catered to him, and he became grateful as years went on. His existence was a bit lonely, but, in school, he made several chums by his personality. Of course, once he had grown to be eighteen, he left the home in persuit of his own life. He feels, some days, that the animate objects miss him... But he can't be entirely sure of that.
His first mission after his schooling had ended was to rent an apartment and enroll in university. He was blessed with wealth from the kind, quiet witch, which made things a lot simpler for him. He would never know why she looked upon him so fondly, even if she wasn't around; he reckoned she may have had something to do with his coming to be, but that was merely a theory. In any event, the money allowed him to get a decent sized apartment, and entry into university to study marine biology. It was natural for him to be interested in the subject, seeing as he was literally born into it. The field of study was also a convenient gateway into a job he snagged not too soon after; in his classes, they made frequent trips to the local aquarium for some first-hand experience. Taehyung, naturally gifted with sea creatures, was hired to assist in caring for them after a few months of visiting. He adored the job, never wanting to do anything more with his life... Except, maybe, to find a way to return to his former life, if at all possible.
Kim Taehyung is cheerful and bright, like a coral reef. He is almost too friendly, adoring and accepting everyone who poses no obvious threat to him, and he is very talkative (though, he is prone to shyness.) His personality is naturally set up for optimism and positivity. He has never been fond of being sad or angry; he really hates that wet stuff that pours from his eyes. That doesn't mean Taehyung doesn't get sad or angry, sometimes, it's just that he doesn't like it. He has strange habits, mannerisms, and coping skills. He's very odd, because he spent his first few years of life in an entirely different ecosystem. For example: if he's nervous or excited, he'll shift between both legs rapidly, or wiggle his body, as if he's swimming in mid-air. Beneath the surface, he's shoved down the constant feeling of being out of place in the world of land, but he thinks he's managed quite well to get a hang of the human life.
He also loves sugary treats (buy him and ice cream and you're his best friend for life.) He is a vegetarian, but isn't the type to push other people into following him in that path. He adores nature, especially any place with an active water based ecosystem, and learning about other people's interests. He loves to hear about where people come from. He is at his calmest whilst around water, though, sometimes that calmness leads to the exposure of his longing to belong, once again, to the ocean. Once in a while, one might see Taehyung in this gloomy state, but it's rare. He is an extremely caring friend, and loves those who are close to him very much.
