Is your bias underrated? Why?

I've noticed some people claimed that their bias is underrated for so and so. But from what I can tell they're gaining good popularity and even people who aren't fans of them knows them. For example, Chungha the IOI girl who went solo. Some of her fans claim she's underrated but whenever she comes back there's hype for it, so I don't see her as underrated. Or JHope of BTS, while I get why people claimed he's underrated. But now, he has tons of fans and can easily be recognised as a great dancer so why do people still consider him underrated? Same case with some EXO members and TWICE members. It usually revolves around famous groups. Certain members are considered underrated despite having a strong fanbase. Why? What makes them underrated?

@murgirl Whoa, I did not know that Seventeen was like that, I only know S.coups so I didn't know their maknae wasn't as popular. I'm glad that the popularity gap in BTS has decreased over the years though : ) and ikr, maknae line stuff for BTS is overpriced or either out of stock completely most of the time on websites. I remember when I was collecting the hip hop monsters in 2015 the maknae line was sold out on kpop mart so I had to go search multiple websites to find the last three and when I did find them they barely had any left.

@Qs_Elephant That's true. Though the opposite could be said for SEVENTEEN, since Dino is one of the least popular member in the group and 95 line is very popular. With BTS I feel like the popularity gap between the members has decreased over the years. Each member has their own circle of fans defending them. The only real difference I see is when I want to buy their merch and the maknae line is ridiculously overpriced.

@asdgfh I get that. I get the perspective when it comes to comparing with other members both RM and JHope are the least popular which is why they're perceived underrated. But that got me thinking what do the fans really want for them to stop being underrated? RM is being constantly being praised for being a good leader that there's an actual meme going around asking him to be president. JHope is always considered to be such a great dancer that even when Jimin received an award for being the dancer of BTS, fans got mad. Even when Spring Day was first released, fans had a problem with it because they can't hear JHope in it. What more do fans want before the boys stop being labelled as underrated?

I feel like some people say this with leaders or older members especially. At least in the comments that I have seen, most people usually tend to favor younger members (especially in BTS most of time it seems), so maybe that is why some people see members as under rated in certain groups but idk.

Hey murgirl,

Personally, I think it is just a natural human desire to want to have other people to like the same things as you do and to want them to recognize how awesome their favorite person is. I think thats why there is a lot of toxic fandom wars out there trying to prove that their idol/group is the best.

I think the whole idea of being "underrated" stems from comparing the popularity of different groups/people. For example, J-hope and RM are part of one of the biggest groups but compared to the other members in the group they are not as popular even though they hold positions like main rapper and main dancer so people say their are underrated. It's all about perspective.

That's my opinion. What do you think?
