Need help setting up a graphics shop

Does anybody know exactly what I need to open up my graphics shop? I have never requested graphics so I don’t know how to set up a requests space nor how to make the layout, portfolio, banner, etc. I’m pretty good at making graphics tho!

PS: If you help me out I can even make you a free graphic :)

Well more like I can install new fonts but it’s pretty annoyingly complicated

@Deer-and-Bread Well before I used to use illustrator and photoshop mostly but ever since I managed to save up for an iPad Pro I’ve been using Affinity photo (I freaking love affinity photo though. It’s much simpler to use and I can make thinks much quicker but the only downside is for nice fonts I have to switch to another app because I can’t put new fonts on an iPad)

Oh, what program do you use?
I guess as long as you feel confident in your skills, you can go ahead.

Well, honest advice from someone who started a graphics shop w/ barely any knowledge as well a while back, I would say to look around AFF, visit graphics shops, see how they function. Shops usually have rules and guidelines based on what you would like people to follow in order for them to request, but if you don't know exactly what rules to put either, you can look around AFF again to see. (I'll probably say this a lot, but the best way to know how to run a graphics shop is to look at what other people do.)

Just some experience I've managed to gather: more people will request if you have a pretty layout. I'm not even exaggerating-- it's honestly the truth. And you don't have to worry about whether or not you know how to code a layout; it's pretty difficult tbh. There are lots of layout galleries on AFF that allow you to use their layouts. My personal favorites are:

https://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/425676/
https://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/1128992/
(but also bc I'm biased, this is one of my shops and you should totally request a layout there LOL jk https://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/1340023)

Banners are a must for a shop, I think, since it gives a way for people to credit through an image + also, like what you stated before, it's kinda like 'the face of the shop'.

I think notinthemood covered portfolios pretty well, it's kinda a MUST to have a portfolio just like the banner and it lets people decide whether or not they really want to request from you. (here's mines for example if you need one, https://xkyterix.wixsite.com/simplicityportfolio ; it's not the best portfolio out there, but I think it'll be a little awkward if I gave someone else's portfolio hahaha) Honest advice, though, I wouldn't suggest starting a shop until you've gathered a certain amount of experience since I started when I made TERRIBLE posters and now I'm really cringing at my past work, so play around with programs and make a bunch of posters for fun-- when you have a decent amount for your portfolio, that should be a good time to start a shop.

Also, if you want a lot of 'business', don't make your posters cost karma?? It's kinda a personal preference for me to not make my requesters pay in karma but I guess it depends on what you would like.

And umm... yeah, that's about all I can think of for now to say; if you have more questions, feel free to ask me! I'm glad to help. :)

@Akira02 yep. other designers, and depending on the layout, make more graphics though. like the poster for the thread itself and for the images that need to be replaced in the layout

@notinthemood So the banner itself is only for promotion purposes I guess? Like the face of the shop?

for layouts, you can find one at layout shops or threads. if i may, a friend of mine does layouts and some are mobile-friendly too. here's her layouts thread:

for portfolio, you can use imgur, tumblr, wix, or other sites to upload your graphics then share that link. or your aff album if you want (go to your profile and click on 'latest album image.' upload, then share.

for banners, since you are offering graphics, you can make those yourself depending on who you want to represent your shop (and or what theme).
