The Problem with Comments

Let me start this off with a very professional what the y'all.

So I've been lurking on this site for around four-ish years. I've written some coughtycough stories, and I remember the good ol' days when readers would comment out the . Nowadays, I have stories with 1000+ subscribers, and I hear a peep out of like three of them.

I'm not a mathematician AND I'm 40% blind, but my can see something wrong with those numbers.

Back to the lurking thing. I scroll through the social side of this site more than the story side, I'll admit. I am not shy by any means fam, and I'll blow your up if I'm really feeling it. But is it hard for people to take five seconds out of their day and just say something?

It's disheartening when I go and type 3000+ words for a chapter and nobody says anything about it. Granted, I get over it and move on, but that took some WORK. I could be doing other adult things, but no, I sit my down and type.

Straight up, I don't give a if it's a negative comment such as "This is kys" at least it's some sort of feedback. Did you like the chapter or nah? Give me something to work with because dead silence really ain't cutting it, yo.

I even open the chats on some stories and the same three people are the only ones using them!

This is not me hating on silent readers; you do you fam. But women's intuition is telling me that the likelihood of 1000 people being introverts is hIGHLY ING UNLIKELY.

So, if that little rant didn't clearly state my position on this topic, here it is: the y'all doin'? I dunno why but this new generation of AFFers just don't ing TALK. SAY SOMETHING DAMMIT I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY EXTROVERT ON THE INTERNET. /tRigGEReD

How do you feel about silent readers? Or lack of comments? What do you think the cause of this silence is? /hellodarknessmyoldfriend/ share your thoughts!

@kireitenshi Tbh I thought about ditching this place due to the inactivity in the community. There's no logical way of forcing people to comment sadly, and I wish readers would just take initiative.

@sylviaplant This site used to be a lot more open and social and it suddenly just hit a dead zone and I've never understood it tbh. I really try to comment and be friendly and participate, but it's hard to when you're basically talking to a wall, y'know? Like before, there was absolutely no way I could reply to each and every comment, but nowadays I could easily write a small novel as a reply with how few there are. It's kinda sad.

@lumienarc Me making the correlation of introvert to silent reader goes back to the lurking thing. Many many many many SO MANY users have admitted to being a silent reader because of introversion. You, my friend, are the first to say otherwise. And I'm kinda a hoe and even my hookups said thank you at least before they dipped lol

I'm a silent reader myself tbh and I actually never comment a lot on this site, but I used to go through the discussions and reply to the ones that I felt like responding to or those that actually needs to be replied. I had been busy though so I kinda wasn't able to do a lot of that lately. :'-( As someone who writes though, I kinda got used to the fact that my stories are less likely to get feedbacks and comments because they are kind of unconventional in some way. I don't know what it feels like for people who have lots of subs but gets few comments, but I do hope people will try to interact more. As best as I could, I reply to each and every comment I get to give thanks to people reading my story, to show that love and appreciation is reciprocated. ♡

hear, hear! a lot of the writers here share the same sentiments, including myself. it's really so very disheartening when no one comments. i've seen some writers leave/discontinue their stories because of this. it's so frustrating! i really do not understand why no one comments. =(

First of all, I'm an introvert and I comment. Ironically enough, I believe introversion and being a silent reader do not significantly correlate. I have posted several stories here and if I am lucky, I can get one or two peeps coming out with a comment or two despite the subs. I don't know, maybe people just like to drop by and read and just leave like that without saying anything like a hook-up in a dark room. (lol)
