Liar and His Lover - have you watched it?

I'm just wondering if anyone has watched this kdrama? (Its also known as Lovely Love Lie, apparently) What are your thoughts on it? I'd really like to hear your opinions :)

This was very enjoyable to watch for me, and I especially love the music.

@attackontaeten Ah, alright :)

Though, do you have an idea of what was missing? I'm curious. Or is it just something about it you don't like but can't figure out what?

It seems like i have different opinion from the rest. I watched the drama until episode 4, and for episode 5 and 6, i kinda skipped a lot of parts before i dropped it. The first episode was interesting enough to get me waiting for the next episode, but as I watched more episodes, i kinda lost interest in the drama. Both hyunwoo and joy are my favorites, but it seems like there is something missing, so I couldn't really finish the drama.

@MissLalaMoon Oh I see. Now that makes more sense. And I guess with family members that's more likely to happen. Especially if you know that their reason for getting angry is ridiculous. And alright, I understand laughter through awkwardness too.

And hey, I believe you. And like I said, I wasn't trying to go over the line with you. I just thought it was a bit...eh...when you said that you laugh when people with baby face yells. But now I understand a bit more, so thanks for that :)

And wow...we've gone so out of topic >.<

In any case. I still would like to know you're opinion once you've finished the drama, whether good or bad, its nice to talk to people about dramas I've watched :)

@MissLalaMoon I mean...neither is yelling at someone,, don't get me wrong. That's not nice either...

And I'm sorry. I don't mean to offend or go over the line, really I don't...

Ah, I knew this was going to happen. Also, maybe I should have clarified this, I only laugh when it's my family members (most of the time the argument is pointless) and certain scenes in dramas. I'm not sure you'll understand where I am coming from or that'll make it any better. However, I don't laugh all the time, I've been "scared" or get "shocked" when someone with a baby face yells. Sometimes the scenes seem odd, so I laugh also because of the other person reaction, like they keep a straight face. And other thing, I laugh because it gets very awkward, and that's how it was for some scenes in Lair and His Lover. Whether you want to believe me or not, it doesn't matter to me.

@MissLalaMoon Alright then...though maybe you should try not laughing when someone is so angry they're yelling? Even if they have a baby face. Sure, you don't have to be scared or anything, but laughing at them for being angry like that...yeah...

You realise you're basically making fun of them right? Maybe I'm looking at this wrongly, but...to me, that doesn't seem very nice of you to do...

I forgot about the enter key... Yeah, when I finish it, I'll try and remember to let you know.

You don't have to be "manly" to get mad, but me as a person, I laugh when someone with a baby face starts yelling or gets mad. For exmaple, my older sister has a baby face when she gets angry I laugh (also because she's way shorter than me). Something when my when dad gets mad, he has a baby face and I sometimes laugh when he gets angry. And for me, Lee Hyunwoo has a baby face. I understands it's an adaptation, and some characters will be different, but Hyunwoo's portrayal of this character, I'm not a big fan of. And in the moive, the male lead doesn't yell much, I could be wrong since it's been a while since I've seen it. I think Joy is doing a good job because the girl is supposed to be cute and bubbly. My other older sister saw this drama and said it was okay. So, I'll continue it.

@MissLalaMoon Well since you plan on finishing it anyway, I'd just like to say go ahead.

Though since when does a guy have to be manly to get angry and start yelling? And maybe its just because I haven't watched the movie but I didn't really see his role as someone who's supposed to be. You'll probably see what I mean once you get to a certain point in the plot. I mean, its an adaptation but I'm not actually sure how on point it is to the manga or the movie...I should really check it out...

Anyway, feel free to have your own opinion, and once you're finished with all 16 episodes, I'd really like to hear from you again (or read, I guess?) and what you thought of the whole thing.

Eh... I have a totally different opinion than everyone here, lol. I'm like 4 episodes in and I do not like it. Mostly because of Lee Hyunwoo. He is a great actor and all, but I cannot take him seriously for this role. I find myself laughing when he gets mad and starts yelling. Overall, basically, I find his character annoying. I cannot stand him, but I really want to continue it because I saw the Japanese movie and loved it and I love Joy so much, but he is just ruining it for me. I honestly thought I was going to love this since episode 1 because the movie was amazing, and I loved all the characters, but no I am not. Like, it's good but Lee Hyunwoo's portrayal of the character is ruining it for me. I feel like they should have gotten another actor, someone more "manly" you can say, because Hyunwoo has a baby face and I am sorry, but I cannot take him seriously. Like I said, when he gets mad and starts yelling, I laugh. I plan to finish it, and maybe I'll have a change of opinion since all I have seen in 4 episodes.

@kireitenshi Oh, yeah, I know. But I do like those two songs :)

Yeah, I totally agree. Chan Young went overboard a lot in trying to keep his place and rise from him being overshadowed by Han Gyeol. But I understand why he ended up doing the things he did. He was hurting, and he just wanted to finally belong. And yes, I really don't think he's over her by the end of the drama, but he has given up on her. He knows he's lost in being something more with So Rim, but at least he gained a really good friend who believes in him and admires him as well as two other guys who seem to look up at him as an older brother figure.

Oh yeah, definitely! I definitely think this drama was lacking in the Shi Hyun and Soo Yeon romance. I mean, I understand that So Rim and Han Gyeol are the protagonists but still.

@imyemayema Haha, agreed! Joy is just perfect for characters like So Rim. Happy go lucky and innocent, and cheeky girls ^-^

@ColourfulButterfly Crude Play actually had three tracks - I'm Okay, Peter Pan, and In Your Eyes. My personal fave would be their version of I'm Okay.

As for rooting for Chan Young, I actually liked his character and understood where he's coming from. Not that I agree/condone his actions, but I understand why he did what he did. I wanted to see him grow and break out from the shadows where he was constantly shoved by Choi and the others. I also liked his interactions with So Rim. I understood why he fell for her, and I do think he wasn't fully over her yet by the end of the drama, but he was getting there. I was so proud when he did not force his feelings on her and, just generally, by his growth in the drama.

I do wish that they can have a prequel or sequel with Shi Hyun and Soo Yeon as the leads. Those two are just so adorbs together. As much as I love the OTP of So Rim and Han Gyeol, I think I fell morw for the secondary love line.

@ColourfulButterfly Yeah, me too! Her voice is just so beautiful <3 The ending is just right for them, it was perfect. I've been watching it how many times haha I don't think I'll ever be able to get over this drama. Or maybe, if Joy got herself in a new drama, maybe I can hahaha :D
ColourfulButterfly 6 years ago
@imyemayema Oh and yes, Joy and Hyun Woo do look great together XD
ColourfulButterfly 6 years ago
@imyemayema Oh yeah? Well I haven't watched the movie or read the manga but I have heard that this was an adaption to that :)

And yes, I agree! The songs in this drama are all so good, and I wished they could have released those songs too! Right now I can only listen to those songs via youtube videos or by watching that part within the episode itself...
ColourfulButterfly 6 years ago
@kireitenshi Yeah, me too! I really wished this would have been more well liked. I mean, I suppose its true that the main character is done by Joy, who is very new to this, being her first drama and all, but still. She played So Rim really well!

And yes I totally agree with the Crude Play thing. I wish they had more songs. I really love the two songs they had. Peterpan and Its Okay. Hm...well, in the series, Lee Hyun Woo did sing a few times, though I guess he's more of an actor than a singer.

Hm...well it depends on what you mean by rooting. I watched this with my mom, and my mom kept showing her dislike towards Chang Young, while I had to keep defending him. I just didn't think her judgement of him was fair. His actions were more desperation on belonging and feeling needed more than anything. And honestly, he's a really good person and such a good friend and supporter to So Rim.

Its a good thing he finally accepted So Rim and Han Gyeol being together though, for his sake. And in the end, even though its not in the way he would have liked, So Rim was there for Chan Young through and through.

YESS!! I really love it!! Before the drama, I've already watched the movie and read the manga, that's why when the news came out about the Korean remake, I was really excited. And what's more exciting is that Joy was the lead (omg!). I can't get any happier than that.
I really fell for this drama. I love all of the characters. Joy and Hyunwoo just fit together; they really look good, tbh. That's why I ship them hehehe :>
And the OSTs!!! I love it so much! There are 11 tracks and it's always on repeat! It's kind of a pity there are songs in the drama that I've wanted them to release. Like, the one Joy sang in their classroom - "snail" and the "waiting for you" - Hyunwoo version. And "flying duck" duet of Sorim and Chanyoung!!! Like, I really wanted to hear that :((
Anyways, yeah, I love every bit of this drama. <3

Yes! I love that drama! I was really sad that it got low ratings and did not even break 2%. It deserved so much recognition than what it actually got. The OST is so good as well. I just wish that Crude Play had contributed more songs. No offense to Joy, I think she's a wonderful singer, it's just that I wanted to hear Crude Play more. I also hoped that Lee Hyun Woo would contribute a song, but I guess it was not meant to be.

I also think that I was one of the few who were actually rooting for Chan Young throughout the series. I never saw him as a love interest for So Rim, I firmly believe that she and Han Gyeol belong together. It's just that I find Chan Young a really pitiful character and got invested in seeing him grow.
