FootstepsJieun didn’t want to have to face the Winner members with no prior knowledge to offer; she had to do some of her own homework to keep up with them in the recording studio. They’d had a couple years of experience working in there, whereas this would be her second time overall even stepping into one.
Therefore, she downloaded Winner’s entire debut album from MelOn and listened to it wherever she went. Even though she was new to their music, she was already impressed by the unique sound they’d created for themselves. They’d officially broken the stereotype that YG only produced hip hop and electropop by debuting with an album that was more R&B than anything else. Each member’s musical color was different, but when they came together, they created an odd combination that was oddly satisfying to listen to.
But of all five members, the two whose styles she felt she could complement were Kang Seungyoon and Nam Taehyun, particularly in their song “Color Ring.” She began wondering how interesting a harmony between her voice and one of the boys’ would sound.
Her vocal range was no Mariah Carey or Sohyang, but it was fair enough to keep up with plenty of songs, especially if she reached her falsetto notes. Her tone, as she was told, was similar to Park Boyoung’s: soft but easily conveys emotion. As the vocal coaches at YG had described it once, it was a “sweet voice that wielded the power to move audiences across seas (if she learned to control it).” According to that description, she believed her voice would best complement Taehyun’s.
We could make some amazing harmonies, since we both have fairly soft voices. She pulled the earphones from her ears and stood up, heading to the door of the practice room, feeling ready to work with a group of professionals.
When Jieun knocked on the door of the recording studio, she didn’t anticipate being heard over the sound of the Winner members’ latest project blast
