The Wandering Wonder

I forgot to mention that it's actually quite better if you read this while listening to this and this. :)       ||||||||||||||   "Amber, please! There's only a year left make this worth it or else you wont graduate!" The principal shouted in frustration.   Amber pays no attention to what the principal says. Just sitting on the chair in front of him, wandering her eyes elsewhere.    The principal seats back massaging his temples. "Get Mr. Choi for me outside, I need to speak with him informing your grades." Stretching out the last words as he sighs.   ||||||||||||   Did a troublemaker get sent to the principal again?    My name is James by the way. I was voted most to become the president of the whole student body. Everybody liked me, be it student or teacher. I'm good in both academics and sports. Everything went my way when I entered high school actually, and everything will end my way when I graduate as a valedictorian.     I heard the principal shouting in his office. I was kinda curious, I went a little closer to the door to listen but the door suddenly flew open and hit me. "AH-" I held the side of my face that was hit but I didn't feel any pain when I saw who hit me. It was the person I've always wanted to see.   She just stared at me for a second then trailed off and walked right passed me. She walked over to Mr. Choi's table and muttered a few words. "Wait here." He said then went to the principal office.    I'm at the teacher's faculty because I was given a task to give these folders I'm holding to Mr. Choi so I stood next to her and wait for Mr. Choi to get back.    Maybe it was just me but I felt nervous just standing next to her, I turned my head a little to peek at her. Her eyes wandered off. I looked into her eyes and it looks..   Empty.   I only realized I was staring at her too much when Mr. Choi came out of the door and called me. "James, great timing." He says and sits back in his chair.   "I gathered the other classes' attendance for this week, sir." I handed him over the folders. "I'll be taking my leave now." But before I did, I caught a glimpse of her one last time.    "Ah James, hold on a sec. I need you right now." He looks at her with frustration and pity for some reason. "This is Amber."    I know her. I've known her since middle school. She always sits in front by the left, she was very tentative in class. She'd always raise her hand when the teacher asks a question. Her grades were always high. She was also good in sports and always number one. She was popular with both girls and boys. She always smiled. The smile never left her lips. She was a bright and warm person. I wanted to be like her, I wanted to know what it felt like being her or with her.   I was always second in everything back in middle school, but Amber was the one who motivated me into being better. I planned on being number one when high school started and it worked. I smiled all the time, just like she did. When we entered high school I was excited to see her, I wanted to thank her. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be this now.   Where did that Amber go?     "Her grades are hanging by a thread. The principal had a little discussion with me. This girl badly needs help or she'll drop."   "You're the only one I know that can help her stand up. Please, I don't want to see any of the students not march." He begged.   When we entered high school I was kind of glad we were in the same school but I didn't get to see her very often because we were in different classes. I expected to see her name at the top list but instead I only found mine. I seldom see her, she was always alone when I do see her. I wondered why.   But now I have the chance to get closer to her, I have the chance to thank her.   I breathed in, "You can count on me sir!" Mr. Choi sighs in relief. "Thank you."   "Amber, this is James. He'll be your tutor after school."   "Hello." I offered my hand.    "Everyday you have to come to the library and study with him, got it?" She looks at my hand then walks right passed me.    She suddenly became cold, she'd always welcome people with her warm smile but, when I looked at her, her lips were in a thin straight line, her eyes weren't bright as I remember.   I heard Mr. Choi sigh again. "I'm sorry James, please bare with her. From what I heard she wasn't always like this. I wonder what happened to her that made her into this now?"    She's probably still the same, she just needs a push.   "Don't worry Mr. Choi! I'll help her!"      It was quarter to five when I last checked. Of course she wont come! Idiot!   I sighed in frustration. The library's about to close, I better pack my things and leave. I'll try and pull her in tomorrow.    ||||||||||||   I got lucky on afternoon and made her stay. "Do.. you remember who I am?" I asked. Her head was resting on her left knuckles while her other arm rested on the table. She only looked my way when I asked her that question then she wandered her eyes somewhere else.   "I always wore glasses back then. I wasn't very talkative back then so you probably don't remember me... but I remembered you. You had long hair back then... b-but your short still looks pretty on you-I mean you were pretty back then but–" She suddenly stand up.   "I'd like to go home now." She wouldn't even look at me for more than a second. She grabbed her bag and left the table.   "..If you're having problem, you can always tell me." She stopped but her back was still facing me. "I want to help you." Then she left.   ||||||||||   There are times I'd catch her and pull her to the library and actually make her stay but there are times when she ditches me after school. She was always testing my patience.    No matter what, I will help her.    One afternoon Mr. Choi noticed that there really wasn't any progress so he forced her to stay or else he will lock all doors and windows in the library. Which, he literally did and we were the only one in there.   "Can we just get over with it and go? This is so annoying." Don't worry James, she's just testing you. Keep calm. I coughed dryly, "As I was saying, to solve this problem right here-" I looked up and saw her looking out the window. Even when we're locked up she pays no attention. I feel like s
