The room was silent as she digested the information. The principle, Yang Hyun-Suk, didn’t want to do this but it was part of the school policy. He sighed as he knew that she was one of his best students.

Hesitantly she raised her head, with tears b in her big brown orbs. “But sir! The scholarship is my only chance to be in this school.” YG gave a sigh as he knew that this was going to be hard. “Please sir.” She begged as some tears escaped her eyes.

“I’m sorry Taeyeon but you of all people know the policy of being granted a scholarship. It’s necessary to not only promote studying but to also promote the importance of exercise here in SHS.” She gave a defeated nod. But she wasn’t ready to fold yet.

“I’m aware of the rules sir.” She said calmly as she managed to control her emotions, even just a little bit. “But the selection of sports doesn’t satisfy many students. And they are forced into doing something they don’t want to do.” She argued. YG opened his mouth to speak only to be cut off by Taeyeon. “We wouldn’t have this problem sir if the basketball team wasn’t disbanded.” She was more than mad that the basketball team had been disbanded in her first year. It was one of the reasons she chose SHS as her choice of schools. It’s been a year and there were no signs of it being brought back.

Yang Hyun-Suk thought about her statement. He casually rested his head on his hands as he closed his eyes. Taeyeon just sat there dumbfounded at the silence. After a while of deep thinking, YG opened his eyes and levelled a gaze on Taeyeon. She was shocked at the intensity of his stare and she couldn’t help but fidget in her seat.

“Taeyeon, you are one of my brightest students. I personally don’t want you to leave but rules are rules.” After hearing this, all her hope was extinguished. Sobs threatened to rock her body but she kept them at bay. “But I have a proposition for you.” She snapped her head in attention as she looked at the principle with wide eyes. YG could only smirk at her reaction. “I want you to re-create the basketball team. I think you would have better luck with the males of our school, so I want you to bring back the male basketball team before the end of the semester.”

Taeyeon just sat there looking at the empty space between the bookshelf and the window. She was beyond surprised at the proposition. ‘Creating a basketball team?’ The thought never went through her mind except for now. She knew it was going to be a challenge but she wasn’t Kim Taeyeon for nothing.

Slowly she looked up to YG. He was confused as she gave him a blank look but suddenly a bright smile erupted on her face. “Neh gyojang. I will do it.” She announced confidently. YG nodded his head.

“Good. You can start whenever and it will count as your mandatory exercise for the scholarship.” Taeyeon slowly got up and bowed to him. “Keep me updated and good luck!”

As Taeyeon left the principal’s office, she was assaulted by her best friends.

“Unnie what’s going to happen?!”

“Taeyeon-ah you better not be leaving us!”

“Wahhhh I’m going to miss you unnie.”

She pushed the girls away from her as she puffed out her cheeks. “I’m not going anywhere so stop your crying.” At once she was enveloped in a group hug. Though she was mad at being squished, she was grateful that her friends were worried about her. They seemed to be really upset at the thought of her leaving the school.

They finally released her from the group hug. The girls were all smiling now as they were relieved that their unnie wasn’t going anywhere.

“So unnie,” Sunny started, still wiping the tears from her cheeks. “What did the principal want?” The girls were also curious as to what happened in the meeting.

“Well, he told me about the policy in the scholarship.” The other girls nodded as they too were familiar with the policy. “He said that I wasn’t fulfilling one of the terms.” The girls looked at her shocked, thinking about the worst possible scenario. “Ah it’s okay now. We came up with a compromise.” She smiled at them calming them down.

“Wae? What was wrong unnie?” Yuri asked, unaware of Taeyeon’s un-fulfilment of the terms.

“Well I never did any of the mandatory sports.” She said sheepishly as she moved her right foot side to side. At once the girls laughed at Taeyeon and she started to turn red at the embarrassment. “Yah stop it!” She cried.

“Kekeke mianhe unnie.” Jessica said while chuckling. “Anyway what was the compromise?”

With that question, Taeyeon began to frown. The reality only started to sink that she needed, “...to create the basketball team.” The girls stood there in shock.

“Chincha unnie?!” Tiffany asked. Seeing the nod, she started laughing again. Taeyeon frowned deeper as she slapped Tiffany’s arm lightly.

“Anyway YG-nim said that if I created the male basketball team again then he would count that as my mandatory sport.” The girls looked at one another and nodded. They looked at Taeyeon and said together.

“Good luck! Fighting!” And they turned their back on her and started walking down the corridor.

“Ah what’s the meaning of this?!” She was dumbfounded by her friend’s reaction and she tried to catch up with them. They turned to face her as they started smiling.

“Taengoo you’re so stupid~” Sooyoung patted her head. Taeyeon pouted and crossed her arms below her s.

“Of course we’ll help you unnie.” Seohyun said, taking the stress of Taeyeon’s shoulders. She smiled at them, thankful for having such wonderful and caring friends.

“I say it’s time for a group hug!” Sooyoung announced. They enveloped Taeyeon in another hug.

“Don’t you think we hug each other too much?” Hyoyeon asked.

The Next Day:

Taeyeon, Tiffany and Jessica were sitting around an impromptu booth they made the night before. There was a banner saying; ‘Basketball Club’. But no one seemed to be interested as people passed by the booth with their heads bent down looking at the pavement, hoping not to initiate eye contact with one of the girls.

“Hey! Please join the basketball club.” Taeyeon said as she passed around pamphlets hoping to entice some people into joining. But she couldn’t help but frown as she saw the person she gave the pamphlet to, throw it in the trash can.

“Unnies!” They heard a voice coming from the building. They looked around and saw Seohyun dragging around some guy with brown hair and bags surrounding his eyes. The pair reached the booth and they stopped to catch their breath.

“Seohyunnie, who is this?” Jessica gestured at the boy. Before Seohyun could speak up the boy started speaking.

“Annyeong-haseyo Seungri imnida!” He gave them his charming smile but it didn’t work on the girls.

“Tch. We don’t need playboys on the team.” Jessica said as she threw her nose in the air. “Yah!” She felt someone hit her on the arm and saw Taeyeon looking at her with a fierce glare.

“Don’t mind her Seungri-ssi, she don’t know what she’s talking about.” Tiffany said as she gave him an eye-smile.

“Have you played basketball before Seungri-ssi?” Taeyeon asked with crossed fingers. She wanted the basketball club to be a success and she hoped that someone at least knew what they were doing.

“Yeah well me and my hyungs used to play a lot. Oh crap! My hyungs! Wait a minute!” Seungri screamed with wide eyes as he bolted back into the main building.

“Seungri-ah! Where are you going?!” Seohyun shouted after him. But she didn’t get a reply. She pouted and sat down with her unnies.

“Ah what’s the matter Seohyunnie? Got a little crush on Seungri?” The three girls teased their maknae. She could only blush and that was more than an answer for them.

“Ah maknae you are so cute.” Jessica said as she pinched Seohyun’s cheeks. Her hands were slapped away from Seohyun’s face when they heard the sound of running.

They looked at the main building to find Seungri running back while dragging two other guys with him. One of them had blonde hair and his eyes were only slits on his face. He had his mouth opened trying to breathe as they ran faster. The other one had weird coloured hair. It was blue, almost mint like. Unlike his companion he kept a straight face as he was dragged by Seungri.

They reached the booth as Seungri collapsed on the ground. “Ugh no more running.” He panted. The two guys looked at him before kicking him.

“Yah maknae how are you going to play basketball if you can only run for like two minutes?” The blonde maknae. This caused the girls to giggle and the two boys turned their attention to them.

Seungri slowly got back up ah he managed to finally get his breath. He pointed to his hyungs before saying; “Neh these are my hyungs. We’ve been playing basketball for a long time now.” The two nodded in agreement with Seungri’s statement.

“Ah what’s your name?” Taeyeon asked, glad that more people were interested.

The blonde one spoke up first, “Ah annyeong-haseyo, Daesung imnida!” He bowed to them and the girls laughed at his formality.

The taller one stood beside him and spoke in a deep voice, “Ah Seunghyun imnida but please call me T.O.P”

“Ehm why T.O.P?” Tiffany asked hesitantly.

Seunghyun blinked before he answered. “Well everything I do is on TOP.” The girls looked quizzically at him before bursting out in laughter. Seunghyun just stood there with a confused look on his face. “Did I do something wrong?” He mouthed to Daesung. He could only shrug in response.

After the girls managed to come down from the hysteria, they gave them a binder and a pen. “Please put your name down and you class beside it.” The guys wrote down the information one by one.

As Seungri was finishing writing down his info, a voice broke the silence. “Yo! Hyungs!” They turned around to see two guys wearing baggy jeans, gold chains, basketball jersyes and snapbacks that said; ‘Sit the down boy.’

Immediately Seungri’s eyes lit up as he gave the two one armed hugs. “Bobby! B.I! What are you guys doing here?”

Bobby and B.I looked at each other before saying; “We’re here to join the basketball club!”

Taeyeon was more than excited now. She had five people interested in the club, it wasn’t much but it was a start. She pointed to the binder and asked them to write down their information.

Bobby turned to her and asked; “So who’s the coach?” There was no indication to the coach in the binder and they couldn’t see anyone else around the booth.

“Well,” Taeyeon started embarrassed. “The coach is-“

“THE COACH IS HER!” Tiffany, Jessica and Seohyun announced. Taeyeon gave them a death glare but it did little to them.

“Oh chincha?!” Seunghyun asked excitedly. Seeing her nod he threw his fist up in the air. “Wah daebak!” The other ‘members’ of the basketball club didn’t know how to react so they just stood there awkwardly.

“We need more people to join though. I hardly see a basketball club with five members.” B.I said, a bit doubtful on the basketball club.

“Don’t worry I know some other people who will join.” Seungri said as he put an arm around B.I’s shoulder. “Plus we always have him.” He finished with a smirk.

The other guys gave him an ‘are-you-serious’ expression. The girls just stood there, unsure of what to make with the statement. They didn’t know who this person was but he must be something if they all had the same reaction.

“Ah you’re crazy Seungri? You know he’ll never join.” Daesung frowned and shook his head.

“Ehm who are you guys talking about?” Tiffany asked the guys. Instead of answering Seungri looked at Taeyeon.

“Noona is it okay if I bring a person to the training session?” Surprised by being called ‘noona’ she could only nod her head. “Oh I might be late though.”
