Every fairy tale was started with the heroine, or the hero, walking into the wood alone, exploring the world of unknown mystery and surprise. But, what if you weren’t any of them? How’s your story going to start? Were some people meant to be hero or heroine, while the others were just additional characters? But, weren’t everyone hero or heroine in their own lives? No? All these years, no matter how hard I look, wherever I went, I never found an answer for that. I wonder if I, the evil warlock -or rather witch- in every fairy tale, would ever be any hero or heroine at all.

My life started just like that when I was born. Growing up, going to school of magic, graduated, then starting adult life as a fairy godmother or godfather, I’m a male after all. Now, what’s the main task of fairy godmothers or fathers, whatever, in general? Exactly. Helping the heroine to find their princes, the hero, of the said fairy tale. Our existence could not be known by anyone but those heroines themselves and especially not the prince. This raised another question, what if, in the worst scenario possible, the so-called fairy godmother fell for the prince and decided to snatch him away, meeting the prince in his way? I’m Lee Sungyeol and what I’m about to tell you wasn’t a fairy tale with happy ending, it’s my story, the fallen of a fairy godmother.

To begin with, what does someone need to do to enroll the school of magic? The answer is nothing. Only a couple family line could study magic and all of them were trained to be a fairy godmothers. So, I have no choice ever since from the start, it’s what I meant to do in my whole life. We were only allowed to elope with other fairy godmothers if you asked me how we continue our lines of family. Someone outside that circle was prohibited. I’ve lived with all of those rules, locked up from the outside world, and quite honestly, I wasn’t a fan of it. But again, I got no choice. After years of studies, I finally graduated and I was appointed as a fairy godmother for this prince named Lee Sungjong. Yes, the heroine aren’t always females and the hero weren’t always males if that bothers you.

I went outside for the first time to meet the one I must protect and help. Here’s the thing about our power. Yea, we have magic, however we’re physically human, and the major fault in fairy tale told to the people was that they made it seemed like fairy godmothers could come and go wherever, whenever they want without being seen. It’s totally different since I basically have to play hide and seek in my whole life and hiding, along with escapology, were part of the curriculum in our magic school. And with that, came another rule, we, fairy godmothers, weren’t allowed to step outside to the city once we met our benefactor aka those heroines. Yes, even though I’ve freed from the magic school, now I’m imprisoned in Lee Sungjong’s room. Well, some heroines were lenient enough to let their fairy godmothers around in their palace or gave them a private ward. But Sungjong preferred me in his room, so that he could find me asap when he needed my help, he said.

Then Kim Myungsoo came to the picture. I had no idea who’s Sungjong’s hero would me at the beginning and while I was still in the dark, I met him. Kim Myungsoo, the one that messed up what I’ve learned, pushing out all the urge to rebel that been kept deep in the back of my mind.

As Sungjong have to go to have a lunch with his parents and some royal families from South, I was all alone in his room, bored. Sungjong was a creative and musically gifted individual, he has a piano there and I decided to play the song I learned back when I was younger. Those nostalgic memories rushed into me, got me immersed into the song that I had no idea someone else had entered the room.

“They never mention that Sungjong have a brother,” his voice was soft and overflowing with kindness, I could tell he was a good person by his voice, but I should’ve been more careful back then because when I turned around a very handsome man in radiant royal outfit stood a couple steps in front of me with an equally dazzling smile. I was stunned.

“You’re not supposed to be here,” I said, trying so hard not to let my heart fluttered for him.

“Well, I was going back to the hall when I heard piano sound and got curious. Why aren’t you with them?” he asked, casually taking a seat right beside me. Being this close, my heart just couldn’t stay still.

“I’m not a royal. I’m just a servant,” I told him, trying to get away, but when I stood up, he held me by my wrist.

“Wow, you certainly don’t look like one. I’m Myungsoo by the way. You are?” he introduced himself with the same radiant smile and unknown to me, I was already in to deep.

“Sungyeol.”

It was all the beginning of my doom. Whenever he came by the kingdom, he would sneak out to meet me instead of Sungjong, it happened for a couple times until Sungjong told me that he thought Myungsoo was the one. But it was too late for I’ve fell for him too. I should’ve have known, there’s no possible way for me to be with a prince, but I still tried nonetheless, defying my destiny. When I tried running away from him, he still found me. No matter where I hid, he still managed to find me in the end and eventually he confessed to me. But, he had no idea what am I and what consequences he, us, would get if I let this happened, especially when his wedding with Sungjong was already arranged. It shattered my heart, but I rejected him, saying meanest things I could think of to send him away.

With wedding preparation, I had no time for grief as no one could know what happened between me and Myungsoo. Living in the same room with Sungjong himself wasn’t exactly any helpful too. So when finally, the wedding day came, I packed my stuffs first thing in the morning and left as there’s no need for me to be around. When the ceremony started, I left the palace, yet I haven’t even exited the gate when I heard some ruckus from the big hall.

“I CAN’T GO ALONG WITH THIS WEDDING! I’VE TOLD YOU, I LOVE SOMEON
