Jeongguk and Taehyung were as happy as a couple could be

and they never had to be reassured of their feelings for each other. 

Jeongguk knew.

Taehyung knew. 

Taehyung knew Jeongguk loved him through the way he

would continue to leave his fruit roll ups in his lunchbox even when he knew

the one who kept stealing his favorite snack was Taehyung himself. 

Jeongguk knew Taehyung loved him through the way he would wake up

in the middle of the night and trudge on over to Jeongguk's

without disturbing the younger to make sure the

screws on his dirt bike were tight. 

Taehyung knew Jeongguk loved him through the way he would keep

him from eating the toxic paste glue every day in art class. 

Jeongguk knew Taehyung loved him through the way he went out of his way

to dress up as a girl to play the Juliet to Jeongguk's Romeo in fifth grade. 

Taehyung knew Jeongguk loved him through the way he would secretly double

knot his shoelaces before any sprint or race at school carnivals.

Just in case. 

Jeongguk knew Taehyung loved him through the way he would scribble a

warning message to the younger's boyfriends before they started dating. 

Taehyung knew Jeongguk loved him through the way he secretly went

through his assignments to edit his guaranteed grammar mistakes. 

Jeongguk knew Taehyung loved him through the way he delivered newspapers for

two weeks during finals to afford the signed Girl's Day

merchandise package he had wanted. 

Taehyung knew Jeongguk loved him through the way he would pick off

and eat all the olives on the pizza just because Taehyung is fussy. 

Jeongguk knew Taehyung loved him through the way he worked two

extra side jobs in order to rent the apartment they live in now. 

One way Jeongguk didn't know Taehyung loved him was through the way he acted and snuck around with much secrecy.

And another was through the way he found him talking to another lady over a cup of coffee. 

But now, Jeongguk knew Taehyung loved him through the way he pushed him out of the way of an

oncoming car to save him when he took off in tears at the sight of Taehyung with someone else. 

 
And through the way that glimmer out of the corner of his eye that shimmer with much delight in the relentless rain turned out to be an engagement ring. 

Now gripping onto his lifeless hand, Jeongguk knew. 

But Taehyung didn't. 

Taehyung would never know now.
